I'm an old Trapper 67 years young. I've painted my my boots with Grey fox urine as a cover scent Goin to my stand. Seems to work well, even had deer to follow my trail right to me. I figured there's plenty of Grey fox here in GA so they'd be use to it. Really enjoy and appreciate all your work. Thank you sir.

The more I learn about how amazing a deer’s sense of smell is, the less I believe in scent control products. I like your tip about slinging some scent in your shooting lanes though. That’s a great idea. Even if they only pause for a second out of curiosity, that could give you that second of time to pull off a shot.

100% agree. Best scent control is best wind control. Use the wind to your advantage. Have you ever tried of heard of people using smoke as scent cover for you hunting clothes?

I talked to an old timer and he told me that using vanilla extract and water as a cover scent and it not only covers your scent but also attracts deer. Another scent control method is to boil pine needles and use that as a scent control method

Hey Robert , I have found a ripe massive persimmon loaded in the top and is dropping and ground is covered in persimmons. Would you hunt the morning on persimmons?

@@robertcarte95 10-4 I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. It’s because of you I actually am finding feed sign this year. I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and only been seriously hunting for the last 3 years. Finally this year things are starting to come together and now I can really enjoy hunting the big woods. I don’t mind hunting corn on private property but the ultimate hunt is on natural food sources getting into the swing with nature. Thanks again Robert . I’m always looking for your next video. God Bless

I agree 100%! I don’t care what you do unless you put yourself in a plastic bubble, a deer WILL smell you if he or she is down wind. That being said, you can do a LOT to help eliminate a great deal of your scent, but never all of it. Not to a deer’s nose.

I reckon one could not do this on public land. But on private land, I'm wondering if anyone left a sweaty t-shirt near a stand or in a blind so that deer would get used to the scent. In suburban areas it seems that deer don't care about human scent because it's there all the time. I haven't tried it, but I've been thinking about this. Any ideas?

I use ivory soap and have for many years. I did used to use doe in heat or just plain doe urine, and had some fair luck with that, but I hunt in a CWD zone now and it's illegal to use real doe urine for a cover scent etc. Fox urine works pretty well, sometimes. I remember one time, I climbed in my tree and was going to sprinkle a little fox urine on the ground, from my perch in the tree. Well, I messed up and spilt about half of the bottle out on the ground below me. I mean it stunk up the world. But I stayed in my tree, and had some does come in, but I over estimated the range and shot over one's back. Slightly later I had one come by in less then 8 yards and I shot it, and it walked off, but I knew I had killed it. So, I stayed in my tree and shortly after that a 6 point buck comes by, even closer, and darn it, I shot over its back, didn't even scare it but it trotted off in the direction of the doe I had just shot, before I could get a second shot. I got a lot of action that morning, and should have had at least two of the three deer, but at least I did bag one doe. And the whole place stunk to high heaven.

I think like you on the scent thing if deer is down wind it will smell you the only time I have seen a deer not spook is if he is in full rut I have had a few walk right to me with the wind blowing to him it just was not bothering them at all

I have three locations that I have made scrapes and a large hanging vine placed where I want it, then I scrape under the vine and urinate in my scrape! I’ve been doing it for years now and have shot lots of deer doing this. I also have cameras placed watching them and that same evening have deer coming in to investigate.

Excellent advice from a well seasoned hunter ! Deer/ hogs smell humans frequently, the best you can do is try to make your scent seem days old. When I use to climb, I would mix three or four estrous scents together with glycerin and blow-bubbles. That let me get scent into bedding areas with putting down my scent. I now hunt on the ground now, so that I can quickly change to new locations and because at my age I break quick and heal slow. Hope your first hunt is awesome! Be safe and be sure to enjoy God’s creation !

Good video I'm old too. Scent thief works for a cover scent they will not smell you. Been using it about 5 years. Shampoo the whole kit. Been using Hecs clothes about 8 years they work. Bought these products before they were popular they work and will help you on the ground. I'm for what ever helps get the game as close as I can to get a clean ethical shot. I call it a beaver shot 5 to 10 feet will work if you can keep your composer. Can't wait to see what you bring in. Enjoy every day. Be careful

Well hello Robert ... I've always felt it best to not do much different than the daily routine , I guess I figure that the deer are used to certain smells and if you change and suddenly smell of artificial doe urine or something like that it smell unnatural . I maybe crazy but if they smell gasoline , cigars , Doritos , or whatever the majority of the year ... Your content is tops, thanks
