Although not technically a Hill style, my Montana will have to do and I am already addicted. I don't care to hunt with anything else. I love this series and to be honest I love all of your videos. God Bless!
@caseysmith5444 ай бұрын
It is an ASL or American Style Longbow as is a true longbow. Fun fact, according to 3D World archery rules Montana longbow is a longbow as bow is being minimum of 64 inches grove to grove and no more then 2--3 degrees of forward or back set and bow has micro bit of R&D within rules being about 2--3 degrees of R&D. Now a Howard Hill/Pope & Young type of longbow the Montana bow is not as bow is using a locator/mini notched grip and is not using 100% straight limbs. What I have for hunting is a kids longbow model from the New Great Plains Traditional Archery company in Hickory with a mid-depth universal notched grip where bow is 45 pounds at 24 inches and my draw is 24.5--25 inches so I will be drawing about 46 pounds for my needs, is not even as an ASL as limbs are mild R&D where bow is still a D shape when strung up but because bow is 52 inches and well under the 64 inches for 3D world archery and too much R&D even if made longer, I call my bow an ASS which is an acronym for American Style Shortbow as a joke.

Enjoying your series, looking forward to the next one. I personally prefer a glove and use NEET gloves. Sad part of that is that NEET closed their doors recently. So, yep buy more than one if you find something you like. This season will be number 54 for me with a bow in hand. The Lord has blessed me with many memories and great friendships.

A creekwalker quiver, or similar ( i make my own) is important IF you choose a bow quiver. ASL handles are short. Other quivers fit the fades and a long arrow vibrates too much, even falls out. That Creekwalker style extends the contact points a couple extra inches each way and that difference is huge. Just my experience.

I need a bow mounted quiver because 90 percent of my hunting is out of a tree stand. i carry my stand and sticks on my back so a quiver would get in the way. I usually take my quiver off when I get up and ready to hunt. this will be my first year with a longbow so Im still trying to figure it out.

@caseysmith5444 ай бұрын
brands sill make a ''side strap shoulder quiver'', yes you need all those words when looking online as just side will yield mainly hip quivers from brands calling a hip quiver a side quiver. Another option is having a Bohning, Apex, or Alpine type of stiff quiver where quiver uses single area of mounting holes and buy a strap/use a wide leather strip for a strap.

Thought about making a quiver like yours, just never had any dimensions like length etc. I shot so much straight fingers bowfishing for years that I can shoot pretty good like that when I need to. Have shot tabs over the years but prefer a glove. I actually like the Allen gloves, they are very cheap and work great for me. Our 8 1/2 week old pup is named Daisy, the wife named her Daisy Mae LOL. That's a sweet looking bow too, you have several that need to be broken in properly now, hogs or deer or both. Yep, priorities in order, our Lord comes first.
@caseysmith5444 ай бұрын
I would use a stiff bow mount quiver where some uses a single spot/attachment point for mounting the quiver like what some brands use and add a strap to quiver or use a side bow quiver like Safari Tuff ArowMaster similar uses. You Need to look up, side strap quiver becuse just looking up, side quiver will give results for hunting hip quivers where are needing a belt for use or use belt clip.
@jerrycox20584 ай бұрын
@@caseysmith544 Thanks Casey for the info but I have made quite a few quivers including several different kinds of side quivers, just not one exactly like his. Have made various back quivers as well as several different bow mounted quivers, for recurves and longbows. I prefer to make most of my stuff, why I make selfbows but I have bought a few over the years. I also make river cane arrows as well but I have a variety of others. I set young people up with everything to be able to shoot and hunt with so I tend to make a lot of it. I have given away over 20 bows in the last year or so. I also have had many things donated to me by people on Leatherwall including bows to give to these new archers. Loads of fun, passing on what some of us old farts have learned and have to share.
@caseysmith5444 ай бұрын
@@jerrycox2058 I have yet to make a bow but If I did, I would use Stiff Gray Electrical/Conduit in more Schedule 40 PVC for my bow limbs as specific PVC is less likely to break in tests or need a wrap/paint job using 1/2 of a PVC end cap for the shelves on bow handle area. For a string I would use B--55 handle bought 2 inches smaller then normal and make a loop from a Paracord string.
@caseysmith5444 ай бұрын
Only bows I could have a quiver on are 3 piece takedown and I own 0 of those and even if I owned a 3 piece takedown bow I would so I have no quiver on my bows. I use back quivers becuse I do like having arrows more compact then say a side quiver, but I am using quivers one can use left and right yet are not a 2 strap backpack design as hose stand so tall.
