If you don't mind, here is the reason for the double-logo you took off. Hults bruk is the mansion and factory where the forge is at Hultafors/Rodga outside the city of Norrköping (Sweden), so it is basically the part of the area and the name of the Factory/forge that's on the ax. Some of the models that Hultafors at Hults-bruk make have names taken from the area, such as "Åby" which is the closest village, or "Ågelsjön" (popular place for rock-climbing as well) which is a lake about 500 meters away from where these axes are made. There is even one model named Hultån after the small river that runs through the area. The text also says "Agdor" which is an area near the workshop spelled backwards (Actually Rodga) close to Sörsjön which is another lake. We like our lakes here I guess. Thought it might be interesting to know. I live not far from the place and I am super happy you seem to like these axes. As I said, I hope you don't mind me writing this. Thanks for a really cool video

Watching how you prepare these axes is like watching how they eat steak Western films 😄. It makes you hungry and want to buy that axe. I have been searching for a capable backyard all around axe. You convinced me to get that one.

Tandy leather sells “s” shaped sewing needles that are RAZOR sharp and cut right through several pieces of leather… would save you having to punch holes for the sinew. You can also get punch that will make 2 or 3 holes at a time and keep spacing for lacing / stitching. (Looks a bit like a fork on the pointy end.). This is very well done, using just the tools on-hand.
@lindafromidaho29323 жыл бұрын
When I have to punch stitching holes in thick leather like that, I use my Dremel in a mini drill press. Nice job Skye!

My plastic axe is siting in the corner looking very sad for itself. When you come to see us next time, you could try and put a smile on it's blunt face. Just had an electric Corsa out for the day, so unbelievably nippy - now we want one. Hugs.

Who needs an axe when you've got a big wood splitter eh dad 👍 Electric cars are getting viable now, but they still don't make pickup truck ones yet 😜

Another great video full of tips even the simple ones like the long stick for sanding is not something i would automatically have thought of with not doing axes as often as you. Was it just the camera or were those sparks pink? Lol. All the best.

The oiling of the wood prevents it to become dry and so brittle. The oil soaks the fiber of the wood and also prevents the wood fibers to absorb water that in the long run promotes the rotten of the fibers and the development of fungus that eat away the fibers. Hope to have help clarify the reasoning behind this healthy habit for wood handles

Another great vid Skye, thanks. I'm planning on tarting up my Hultafors like yours soon - in the meantime I'm waiting for a couple of knife blanks to turn up from Finland before Ii have a go at re-handling them. Got some nice bits of oak, some chestnut and some mahogany to use in the handles. On a bit of a tangent - when you extended the tang on your Mora, what was the make of the little stick welder you used? I'm thinking of getting one for odd jobs (can't afford to go the whole gas-bottle hog, so it's got to be simple stick welds for me). Oh, and I have to confess that watching you put that gas torch to a Hultafors handle is giving me the heebiejeebies!
@SwampValley3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, sounds like you've got a fun plan, my welder isn't the best so I wouldn't recommend it, was an eBay cheapie and it trips the breaker box quite often 😒 All the best with the handles mate 👍 Skye
@markstudden90903 жыл бұрын
@@SwampValley Thanks for the response. I've taken the plunge and ordered a little stick welder from eBay (ROHR MMA200FI-07) and, based on your feedback, I think I'll maybe run it off my generator instead of the house mains! Cheers, Mark

You can just simply dent needel holes with normal fork and drill holes its faster and easyer. Cheers 🍻
@SwampValley3 жыл бұрын
Yea I've done that before too but it's easy to make a mess on the other side if you're drilling by hand like me, stitching ends up uneven. The punch didn't take much time but it was a pain how it stuck in that 12mm of leather, pushing it to its limits I think 😅

Overkill sharp? Heck no. A man needs his hobbies, right? Have shed, will sharpen... (o; Good tutorial. I've seen other people, making sheaths, 'burnish' the edge - seems like another easy thing to do in the 'finishing' stages.

Why would you weaken the shaft
@SwampValley3 жыл бұрын
Good question, it's to make it fit the hand better and it allows the handle to flex a bit more to prevent getting a sore elbow, cheaper axes always have thick handles and as you go up in price they usually get thinner and more shaped for comfort. All the best mate 👍 Skye

@rexsterlingbuchanan29293 жыл бұрын
Hey man I'm only at 12 minutes into this video so I don't know the entire contents of it. But I think it would be really cool if you explain to people about sharpening an axe wrong. You know what I mean, where people go for maximum sharpness Like a Knife and thin the bevel too far and make their ax get stuck in the wood they are cutting. And then explain to them yes you can have an ax you can shave with and still not have it get stuck every swing. Not very many people know about this......

Hi guys super serious message here. The policing bill that they are trying to bring out will put an end to your way of life it is to target off griders, gypsies and travellers. We all (including fans) need to contact our local mps publicly (social media) and let them now that we want them to oppose this bill. This is serious guys.
