She's a drifter, but she made contacts on 15 meters, connected to the Chameleon tactical delta loop 15 feet in the air. And I love this Turner +2 microphone, man i remember all the years I had a Turner +2 and +3 on my CB radios.
I plan on one day soon going through this entire rig and replacing all the capacitors and resistors, as well as new tubes, but for now, this is still working, without light bulbs. What else can I say?? I am an AMATEUR, duh!!!!!

Another great classic, and they were know to drift. Never owned a 500 but did own a couple of 350.

I'm to young to have been around valves, but they seem to be alive. Now most houses have only one valve hiden in Microwave oven, not even their close relatives the incandescent light globe exist in houses anymore. We need to keep these old radios working. Having seen circuits of vale radios, they are very cleaver albeit simple compared to the modern day radios. Great job in keeping history alive.

My first HF rig was a Swan 350. It definitely drifted. I learned a lot from that radio, and those old tube rigs sure sound nice, plus they really crank out some watts. Those things used TV sweep tubes for the finals. They were cheap and plentiful in the early '60s , the only problem was that they weren't really meant to be transmitting tubes, so you had to be a little careful with them.

Dude, next time I come home to FL, we have got to get together, before I die I must have a QSO on that Swan! Awesome company! I had a Pierce Simpson Simba 23 channel CB base station. I added a Siltronix 11 meter band VFO when the 40 channels were added. Siltronix is not Swan, but their colors, equipment, overall design were as close to twins as you could get. Hell I think that both companies were in the same town in Cali. These two companies made the best products, and I include Turner in the mix. That +2 mic will get you everywhere, no linear. Modulation is everything, wattage is second. Did it in the 70s/80s. Became a ham in Sept 2021, bout time I said. LOVE IT! Louis WW7GBA Activity Group 3:34

What a lovely tranciever. I wonder what year it was manufactured? You certainly get a more physical relationship with these radios. Interesting video on the bucket antenna, will be interesting to see inside it. Some very clever engineering going on there. A have good time at the rally. David M0DUU

I had a 500C that I used to run phone patches into West Africa on 15 meters. Boy it was a challenge to keep the audio sounding normal for the non-ham participant on the patch.

You're going to find the audio quality is so much better than any of the new radios..There is nothing like a tube radio..Nothing compares..My opinion.

To be fair everything drifted back then. You were never quite sure if it was you or the other station, it was probably both to be honest. And if you had a group going well it was constant fiddle time. Ironically some old radios had memories due to FCC regs, but that didn't mean they actually remembered where they should be lol.

It looks nice as did the Atlas equipment. Cumbria Designs had an electronic circuit to fit inside to combat drift but are no longer in production and have shut down. It was fitted after the buffer stage. Perhaps you could find a circuit to make one? G4GHB.
