Can you explain wht the beginning means, when they go into the cave??? I'm tbh so confused by that
@silentcaay6 сағат бұрын
@@Equitywaters749 The demon is the sorcerer Rothbart who is typically portrayed as an owl when he's watching the goings on at the lake but in this adaptation they went with a demon instead. At the very beginning, when they go into the cave, that's portraying Rothbart placing the curse on Odette. That's why they go in as human Odette and human Rothbart but come out as swan Odette and demon Rothbart. The original story doesn't give a reason for the curse and this adaptation didn't, either, so that's all you're gonna get for an explanation.

This is the best performance I've seen. The violin soloist was absolutely exquisite in 43:00 and again at 1:19:00. Rothbart's acting was as convincing as I've seen. And of course, Siegfried and Odette/Odile put on a spectacular performance.
@TheKterrita Жыл бұрын
And 1:19:00 is not a part of the original ballet. It disturbs and shakes the whole idea of ballet. Something strange from russian sailors dance which is absolutely inappropriate hier. Disgusting to me
@BleakVision Жыл бұрын
@Ilia Beleichev Sorry Ilia, but you need to open up your tastes. They tried something new and, in my opinion, fully succeeded. The Russian productions are outdated and cheesy AF. That silly jester alone ruins most of the Russian versions for me. As do the muted and pastel colored costumes. This production is lush and colorful like Disney movie.
@FelipeEPD Жыл бұрын
@@TheKterrita I agree. As a musician and connoisseur of the ballet genre I knew something odd was happening on that part. And of course, that adittion feels musically disruptive and out of place, however I don't find it that disgusting. It shows that they put effort on staging the scene the way it seemed organic despite the music style. Not to mention the exquisiteness of the dance performance that adds a little deepness on Rothbart's character. But with all said yes, feels weird. And believe me, there are worse addition/adaptations of this ballet. Here where I live (Chile) for example the theater played a version that was not only criminally shortened, it added a strange Mazurka on act IV performed by the swans before the Finale (that was also shortened).

What's so great about this performance is the acting and pantomine. They really took time with it. Gillian dances with great passion. I've seen quite a few Odettes and most dance it very pretty but it's flat somehow. The costumes and sets are spectacular. Gillian's strength is her white swan. She is so angelic and Madonna like that it's hard to quite believe her as the femme fatale. I would paint her as the Blessed Virgin.

@@道-p2e I agree. I opened this video because of curiosity (wanted to see this version). However some variations are not what I expected (from classical version, I saw several "Lakes" from Mariinsky & Bolshoi) - but I have to admit that facial expressions/body languages of main dancers are very interesting, acting was so live - I even cried at the end because of the acting, and it does not happen often (and dance itself lovely too). Wow, I admire your devotion to the ballet. I totally agree and I also saw a few dances by Royal, French and mainly by Russian classics. Obviously they were much more trained and selected. But the problem for ABT is that they imported the principals, such as the male here Angel Corella from Spain. But the base troope is not that critically selected and there are not that a big base to select dancers than Russia France or China... The staging is also the key, the lighting and the furnitures, they made the space narrow and crowded rather than a big dancing ground... even Met Opera has huge stage, they have the strong influence from Broadway stuff. I saw this live and I particularly enjoyed every dance of him. His signature is La Corsarie, he always gave 130%, and embassing thing is that the applauding, flowers throwing be much heavier for him than any female partners...he regifted them to her. Again, ABT is ended with Theatre, that maybe the key difference...no other will do the same. Best! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoKaiKuLhsiSntU kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4XdkqeipquWick@@An_Gold

I love this Swan Lake with my whole heart and soul. My favorite segment of this ballet is the end 1:47:24 when the swan corps is done worrying about Odette and Siegfried and the fact that they are dead, but now the music changes into this hopeful melody. Like the have come to peace and the swans, forever stuck in their form, know that they will carry Odette's legacy and protect the pond at all costs. They knew that is what Odette would have wanted them to do.

It’s a trick of editing. Gillian’s quick change in the prologue was probably filmed at two different times or not in front of an audience, in the live audience, Rothbart pops back out of the tree with a swan doll. For the change from Odile to Odette, that one is also editing. In live performances of this production, however, the transition music from act 3 to act 4 is longer so whomever is dancing has enough time to change.

as a dancer, who does performances and competitions, you normally just try to follow someone else, or if you’re in a solo, you make something up on the spot, also known as improv. some kids at competitions just run offstage. i haven’t really forgotten onstage before but this is what i would do. hope this helps

Hi there, I'd say forgetting is not an issue in professional dance, it just doesn't happen. Once you've rehearsed dozens or hundreds of times you build body memory. I trained professionally as a ballet dancer and never heard of a case where someone forgot the choreography. That said, I actually forgot/got confused at the end of a short piece at a dance performance in college but that happened because I had just learned the choreography two hours before, while getting ready for the show (between make-up, warm up, etc.). I just improvised and made up a pose at the end. A girl got injured and I had to jump in. In professional dance there's usually an understudy who learns and practices a role for such cases.
