Swann Wire-Free Security Camera Review

I've got one of these, until I return it tomorrow. I've had it 3 weeks. Cheap cameras are really not worth the time, hassle and disappointment. It barely works with Google assistant. The detection range for me is about 15feet and by the time it starts recording it's missed whatever movement there was. It's great for recording the back of people's head as the leave the property. The 2 way microphone is a joke, the speaker is quiet and crackly, difficult to hear anything. It sometimes captures audio with the recording and sometimes doesn't. The app is also quite clunky, some settings just don't stay, wifi is not the greatest either from within 3 meters from the access point. The fish eye lens looks odd, nothing like what is on the box. I sent a capture to the support desk because the timestamp on the recordings stopped working, he actually asked me if I'd fitted a fish eye lens to it, it looks that odd! At best this should be used as a doorbell camera. The only impressive thing is the battery life probably over a month off a single charge, but then doesn't matter if it's not doing much anyway.

Same here. I have had it 3 days and the slow response of the camera lets you walk out of the picture before it starts recording. Am returning it tomorrow. Wish I had seen your review sooner.

I have tried this with many cameras from different manufacturers (not just Swann). They tend to work fine during the daytime, but too many reflections at nighttime.

Does it require the app to work? What if I live off grid and do not own a cell phone or have wifi? Would it still power on and record just on the chip so I can remove sd card and view on my pc?

I do like how these cameras are getting smaller & the designs are not the typical cylindrical shape. I just wish they would have had the option of using a SD card.

Depends on amount of motion sensing, but you should get at least 1-2 weeks.

I just purchased it, but the WiFi connection is very unstable! I’ve tried different settings, even place it next to the hub, still not work well! I’m so disappointed 😞 need return it to the shop

You need to be on the same 2.4ghz band as the camera. Then you can return to 5ghz or mobile data. It uses the app to stay connected.

After 6 months of using 3 of these wireless cameras, they’ve stopped recording. I’ve reset them. I’ve rebooted them. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Keeps saying that clips are unable to be viewed at this time. Same warning that would always come up when it was working, it’d take about 5 minutes to load clip. Now even after 24 hours, clips won’t load. I love to hear from someone who’s also had this problem and can give advice on rectifying the issue please.

Up to 3 months on one charge depending on how often it activates. It's made to sit idle until it senses heat movement or motion

awful camera. have the swifi-cam model and it won't connect to my 2.4 ghz network. have 4 seperate cameras and setup a 2.4ghz network and can't get it to work

There is no way of updating the firmware in these. Bought one today, states need firmware update, but cant update. Rang customer services, they cant help and cant advise how to update firmware and unit does not and cant work. No wonder these are reduced to £26.99 with free delivery - they dont work. Sending back as its a bricked piece of junk. AVOID AVOID AVOID in 2022. I also saw an update on the Swann website saying they had a major cloud update on the 25/01/2022 and all units using old firmware ( that cant be updated ) will stop working.

Horrible app. Works slow and is unreliable. Camera is disappointing. Doesn't pick up people unless they're really close. Recording is only a few seconds.
