I love how silent the crowd is during all of this. Though heavy, Swans is not a mosh pit band. You go there to feel sound and to listen.
@christacartwright90837 жыл бұрын
I agree. I cant imagine moshing to this. Early Swans (Filth, Cop/Young God) yes. This, not at all.
@Sighbot6 жыл бұрын
You can mosh to their early works, but this era of Swans focus more on obliterating you instead of violating you.
@CrickeyNyan5 жыл бұрын
Besides early swans, there sure got heavy stuff that is mosheable at some point, like Oxygen
@misterscallop98494 жыл бұрын
mate there's no one there to mosh, it's a swans concert
@nicknickson36503 жыл бұрын
If you mosh at a Swans show, Michael will stop performing to humiliate you. I've seen him do it at a show in CT. One kid started moshing and Michael stopped singing, pulled the mic close to him, and said "STOP FUCKING MOSHING OR GET OUT." He stopped.

Swans' transitional periods are always my favorite. I get to see my favorite albums slowly morph into each other. I also love how none of these sound the same, and that they're actively changing the music from show to show.

I just listened to Bring the Sun/Toussaint l'Overture on To Be Kind. And although I I am not familiar with a lot of contemporary bands / music that is made nowadays I must say that I cannot imagine a band that tops this level of intensity, complexity and sheer beauty.

Intensity? Whitehouse. Especially on Mummy and Daddy.

Bands that have similar intensity are “Neurosis”, “Sunn O)))”, “Chelsea Wolfe”, “Godspeed You! Black Emperor”, “Daughters”, etc.

@@Sighbot Do they top it though?
@Sighbot2 жыл бұрын
@@FaceItYouAreInsane music is so subjective. Many people think Swans is shit, but I wouldn’t say the listed bands top them. I just know it’s hard to find bands with similar vibes and I’m trying to help out.

Genius band. A must-see live - the studio albums are but a taster. The real experience is in person. Purely psychedelic in the sense that it's music that will take you to another mental state.

Skvele!!! Videl jsem Swans v Los Angeles . . . dva krat . . . perfektna skupina!! Please forgive my Czech . . . I'm an American and it has been many years since I lived there! Glad to see the Czechs and Slovaks appreciating this amazing band! If you REALLY want to have your skull sonically crushed . . . listen to their albums Filth and Cop and Greed . . . and look for live cuts from Hell's Kitchen . . . and the live clip of Beautiful Child . . . pure, unfiltered rage, hatred, violent anger . . . no pretense whatsoever . . . positively brilliant!

One of the greatest bands I've seen live - maybe the greatest. The studio albums are phenomenal, but as good as they are, they're merely a taster for the main course - the live set. In this regard, they are similar to bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sunn O))), Boris...the albums are sick, but the live experience totally obliterates them. If you consider yourself a fan of music in any way, you MUST see Swans live.

This is what happens when someone considers themself a musician but doesn’t have any actual musical talent or the ability to write intelligent lyrics, so they just make noise and call it avant-garde. More like avant-garbage if you ask me. What’s more surprising is that people actually encourage them by pretending it’s worth listening to.

so your taste in music must be objectively correct, right?

absolutely pointless. music is not about playing notes in the right place, My listenings extend from Ligeti, Holdsworth, Dutilleux, Henderson, avant garde jazz, indian classical stuff, Qawwali, rumberos, bata players, balkanic music and so on, and I pretend I am able to discriminate what is worth listening to. Swans is a great band , point barre.

This comment is what happens when a mind is so small, so insignificant, that it can't even fathom how small and insignificant it truly is. In the truest sense, you don't get it. I know this comes across as pretentious, it's an argument that people always throw out, but it's true. Saying this is 'garbage', 'talentless', just highlights exactly how much you don't understand - nothing else. Thanks for being so transparent about your shortcomings, Scott. And if your playlists in your profile are any indication, clearly you have great taste and can spot talent when you hear it /s
