Since you used to have an iPod, did you consider an iPod classic, with more capacity? I recently got one (refurbished w new battery and upgraded SD card with 256 GB) and I was amazed how good (actually perfect) this still works and integrates. I wanted to use iTunes because I still had all my old playlists in there. I was super surprised when I saw you can sync your Audible books - I had absolutely forgotten about that - AND podcasts. All of the ones I had subscribed on Spotify were also available on iTunes, so that was a very quick add. And then the 1000 songs I had previously bought on iTunes, I didn't have to convert them. So after all … amazing to see how well a 15 year old player still works and props to Apple for still supporting it.

I was contemplating exactly this and I stumbled upon your video. I migjt go with the HFI walker H2 (non touch version). And the same thing happened to me with Spotify and YTmusic Algorithms. It ended up being same songs over and over again with an occasional variation, but it felt like I wasnt in control of my own music. Even though the algorithms were trying to find music for me, it still didn't feel natural. Most of the time I found myself skipping songs that I was tired of listening to in hopes that something new and fun would play.

Because my first smartphone (a Galaxy Note 4) was limited by a hoopty data plan (2gigs/month), I never got onto the streaming bandwagon, and continued to use a standalone MP3 player. Also, local files will always outlive licensing agreements on streaming services...as long as you keep backups. I became disenchanted by the various no-name "MP4 player" devices I bought at various computer shows (at the time, most MP3/4 players had capacities maxing out at 2-4GB) due to the way I listened to music. Instead of listening to albums intended to be played in a specific track order (the preference of some earlier commenters), I put all my songs (mostly singles) into one folder and put the player on shuffle, not wanting to know what song was coming next. After awhile, I noticed that I would unconsciously predict which song the player was going to select next. Much to my dismay I found that "shuffle" on these players is only simulated randomization...every time the device was powered up, it would play the _same sequence_ of tracks, and indeed most of the time it would still revert back to sequential order here and there. I finally came around to trying SanDisk's players, first the Sansa (with a click-wheel control) and later settled on the Clip Sport after the Sansa was discontinued. These two differed from most players in that they had a true randomized shuffle mode, and I could finally listen for hours on end and not know what track was to be selected next. On my current Clip Sport I have 1318 songs, and every so often discoveries on KZbin, SoundCloud (or infrequently, Spotify free) lead me to buy new tracks from Bandcamp or Amazon. I've found only two quirks in the Clip's playback: --if you end your session by leaving the player on pause, allowing it to power down on its own, the next session will be comprised of what you listened to last time. If you manually power it down, the next session will pick up where you left off, with unpredictable track selections going forward. --Album art will only display if the currently playing track changes while the screen is on. If playing track changes while the screen is off (power saving), the next time you wake the screen by tapping any of the controls, you'll only see a placeholder instead of the album art. Also the actual image needs to be 400x400 or less (most mp3's have 500x500 and sometimes 600x600 images). I extract the art with MP3tag, resize them in an image editor, then re-embed them in the file using the same app. Oh, and the spring clip that gives the player its name is a weak spot in the design. At some point one of the ears on the moving portion of the clip _will_ break. I've had to resort to putting a safety pin through the ears on the player's body, then threading one of those snap-on badge clips through it to continue wearing the player clipped to my shirt collar (rather than having it slam-dance with the keys and coins in my pocket)
@LauraMalvoyante3 ай бұрын
Thanks for this. I feel the same about the shuffle on some of my devices. Right now I am currently going through all my music and making playlists and mass updating the metadata for each MP3 by removing the track numbers and adding missing information as well as cover art. I am waiting on a refurbished custom ipod to add my music to. It is taking some time but I think by modifying the metadata and creating my playlists I should be okay for a bit until I start to see the patterns of the shuffle 🤞
@RailRide2 ай бұрын
A month later I happened to run across this and realized a couple of points I left out of my earlier post: --I happened to re-read the manual for the Clip Sport while fact-checking myself in another message, and the _actual_ resolution limit for album art is 480x480. --Yapping about where I buy new music from in the third paragraph, I left out that when I add these new tracks (anywhere from a half-dozen to a couple of dozen at a time) to the Clip and resume listening in shuffle mode, it can be several _weeks_ of daily listening before all the newly-added tracks have played (bear in mind this is after adding them to a folder with 1000+ existing tracks). Makes for a nice surprise now and then since I don't listen to the new additions online once I've made a purchase, allowing them to fall out of familiarity.

I bought an mp3 player recently because I was sick of spotify putting ads everywhere and the fact that if I played my playlists on my phone it would have permanent smart shuffle on (I don't have premium and since I'm a minor I have to get my parents to pay for it and they don't want to so there's that) and so often it would pull something like putting sad songs in my happy playlist or happy songs in my sad playlist I mostly listen to the same playlists/albums over and over again, sometimes creating new playlists if I see a new song I like on social media but I mostly come back to the same artist or playlist I made. I don't like having random new songs being put in those playlists most of the time so the mp3 player was a good option. I also like that it's a 1 time payment and I have it forever until it breaks, I don't need my parents permission to keep my listening experience since the player is already paid for. Though it does feel a bit weird when using it in the school bus where everyone is using a phone and wireless earbuds to listen to music meanwhile me with my mp3 player and wired earphones, but honestly I love how small and portable it is too, wrap my earphones about it when at the destination, throw it in my bag and don't have to worry about it cause it's only for music

It's great that you got an MP3 player! Spotify premium gets old fast so you are not missing out, at least you can have your own custom playlists without mixing genres or moods. Good on you for finding a solution and being independent of digital streaming services!

Since I got rid of social media 6 months ago I want to listen to more songs and album from the library you for got to say that U can get music from them for free if people are on a budget. I also want to say that by watching this video I bought amp3 player and I also got a CD player too I want to collect more music I did own a few iPods to and my childhood cds that I still had laying around

It'samazing the positive imapcts of leaving social media. Music is much more enjoyable since I have the attention span to appricate it. I have been going to my local library for CDs and it has been great. My family also gifted me some old CDs and they had some great 90s music that I was looking for.

I can’t believe I waited so long to switch. I also found my mp3 collection by accident while looking through an old hard drive. I’ve been using my old BlackBerry Q10 for an mp3 player recently 🤣

Yesterday morning, I bought that Mechen on Ali Express for $37.xx plus tax. I woke up this morning at 5 AM, checked my email and found that my new FLAC player is shipped. By the way, for the past two weeks, the player was sold for $4x.xx. : - )

I love streaming! I'll never go back. Just the top played statistics alone is worth it for me. I collect physical but only of my very top fav artists bc no one has money or room for all that lol. Its kinda wild to hear how many people have such struggles with self control. I listen to music all the time w streaming and 95% of the time, im not doing anything but listening. Anything that helps tho 🤷

With the CDs, that's fun, though also very specific to... largely people my age and beyond lol, WHO are content with sticking to music from the past, and also pretty much only the popular generic stuff (not a bad thing). It's just that I don't enjoy listening to essentially just about anything from my youth, so... bit of a problem there I find so much new stuff that fits my taste, and for for somewhat older stuff, almost none of it will be on a CD that I'll stumble upon. Like, Sheena Ringo's "Shōso Strip" album ain't gonna be there. Or other interesting finds that are popular in other areas of the world, like Jelena Rozga's recent "Od cega sam ja" in Croatia is an awesome song, an emotionally powerful sound. But, one can convert KZbin music and other stuff to MP3 of course.

I git that for my friend for her birthday it is a lovely device that has gotten her back into listening to music. Me I use the Fiio M11 Plus, it does have Wifi if you use it as an android device but I just set it to music mode. I have a ton of CDs, like a ridicules amount from my father who bought CDs as his treats to himself, my mother who bought them for the multiple car trips a year, or mine which I also have several hundred from my childhood or I bought after getting back into just listening to music. Spotify and other streaming services are great if you are discovering music, however if you are listening to music that are just your tried and true I love this, DAPs/MP3 players are the way to go.

Haven't paid any attention to music of any kind, since early Napster pre-morpheous, days. Bc Trojans ate 2 desktops that had 10 entire lifetimes of music in them😂. Now. I have a tiny, cheap, mp3 player, and need some music on it, bc my phone gets too hot, in the cover on my motorcycle, and i dont wanna keep it in my pocket. Hoping the mp3 player, will not overheat.

The reason the word 'podcasts' is what it is, is because of the existence of the iPod that came before it. People seem to think that podcasts are a semi-new thing, but they have been a downloadable radio show for over two decades. iPods helped the rise of the podcast...
@LauraMalvoyante7 ай бұрын
I completely forgot about this. I remember when they came out on iPods but there weren’t many options since only bigger organizations could produce podcasts. This would be an interesting video topic 🧐

Came back after two weeks with my Menchen and the music quality is phenomenal. I paired it with some HD earbuds and the quality vs. my Apple Music is phenomenal. I'm hearing all the little bits of music that made me fall in love with music all over again. I'm also a CD hunter and finding $1 CDs at the thrift store - can't replicate the excitement. Now to find a decent CD player.

You don't need itunes if you aren't using overpriced proprietary apple junk. Just drag and drop from your file menu. Windows explore makes it quite easy, or a file app on a phone or other android device. Make a folder that you use to add tunes you like. Then select the contents folder to transfer to the player, or to an extra drive card that you can then insert into the player. It's a shame people dispose of some of their freedom by paying for streaming stuff they probably already own, and having some other program select what you can hear. I use cheap mini MP3 players for working outside where I'm not going to risk messing up a phone I need or an expensive device, and cheap earbuds like the great Panasonic ergofit that sound as good as any buds out there for a lot less money.
@Solitaire001Ай бұрын
Another option is to use a music management program like MediaMonkey to manage the music on your player. You can set it up to automatically sync the songs you want to your player. As an example, I have it set to load any song rated 4 stars or higher to my player's MicroSD card.
