For a street engine 24x IMHO works just fine, why anyone would feel they need a 58x upgrade is beyond me unless the vehicle harness is a Gen 4. I do some of my engines with a front mounted cam sensor, 24x cam gear and external knock sensors. No worries. Unfortunately, I picked up a very low mileage 2009 4.8 Gen 4 engine and only have Gen 3 PCM's and harnesses. I understand the problems with the conversion from 24x to 58x, if the resolution isn't there you can't just produce it but I never heard of your 58x to 24x conversion box, that is something I will have to look into. The gen 4 4.8 is nice because it doesn't have any of the DOD/AFM casting provisions in the block, it's just basically a Gen 3 4.8/5.3 LS that can be fitted with a 24x 5.3 crank and rods or stroked easily without added cost. I will have to look at that conversion box for my 4.8, I plan on sticking it in a '89 S10 I have but I might just run it off a carb so it might be a moot point anyhow. Thanks for the info. I link for the conversion box would be nice.

10L90 swaps, there is a company doing them for Gen 4 LS now, but it will eventually not matter as they will start doing Gen 3 with the 10L90, Hopefully I can get a 6l90 behind my 5.7 Iron LS1 (5.3 bored out) Gen 4 4.8 was LY2 (Piston valve relief, not true flat top like the LR4 was) or L20(VVT) It's not difficult to dod delete 5.3s or 6.0s or 6.2s, If im not mistaken not all Gen 4 5.3s were DOD, just need to look at RPO codes Later model Gen 3s (2004+) have gen 4 rotating assembly outside of the reluctor wheel being 24 tooth. The First Gen 4 LS was the LS2 6.0

On the crank sensor, what he is babbling about is the index tab inside where the pins are. Hold the sensor upright by the part that goes inside the block, and looking inside the connector with the metal plate under it. The locator tabs are left 24x, right 58x.
