I love seeing these various sensor converters that make these stock computers work. I learned about it for the first time back in 1998. When getting more than 400 horsepower out of a Nissan 300ZXTT, the stock MAF becomes a choke point. Various sensor formula converters would make it possible to fit an oversize MAF and still get proper drivability. I'm kind of surprised that the 24 tooth computer couldn't be reflashed to understand the 58 tooth wheel. Oh well, as long as there is a quick solution, I'm happy.

I'm going to be putting a motor together over the winter and I am planning on running the up twin turbo set up. Would you go with the Gen 3 or Gen 4 engine? So you're trying to put a gen 4 motor in a gen 5? From what I've heard anything that's gen 5 is not interchangeable with gen 3/4 motors
@actionjksn2 жыл бұрын
I need some professional advice please. So I have an 08 Silverado that came with a gen 4- 5.3 liter engine. I bought a gen 3 LS in a 6 liter. I had a piece pressed into the crankshaft, I think it was the reluctor wheel? And he switched out the cam thing on the front. Then my engine ran on four cylinders until I took the computer to some guy who reprogrammed it so now it runs great. Here's my problem. The guy who did it decided not to install the knock sensor at all. I would like to eventually install a basic turbocharger on it. I think I need a knock sensor for that. What is the most easy and cheap way to get a knock sensor on this engine? One more problem is I have a ridiculous oil leak that looks like it is coming from the rear main seal. It's losing several quarts a week and I'm getting tired of putting oil in it plus it needs to be fixed before I can put a turbo charger in it. It has a new high volume Meling oil pump and I have lots of oil pressure, 40 psi idling warm 60psi while driving, so the engine seems pretty solid. How hard is it to put in a rear main seal and any advice on that? I had no idea this guy was going to half ass everything like he did but I'm kind of stuck with it and I would like to make it right. Is there anything else that would cause a leak that looks like it is from the back of the engine close to the transmission underneath? Thanks
@Sdpartscenter2 жыл бұрын
You'll need to remove the transmission, torque converter and flywheel to gain access to the rear main seal plate. If the harness is still there, you might be able to run some knock sensors on the outside of the block if you have room and might be able to find a hole to tap the right thread for the sensors. It would be recommended to find a good shop to take care of both of those issues especially if you're losing as much oil as stated. It's one of many reasons we usually recommend finding a good gen 4 block because of all the extra work involved of making a gen 3 work in a gen 4 vehicle.
@actionjksn2 жыл бұрын
@@Sdpartscenter I didn't know anything when I was buying the engine and the guy lied to me about everything. I don't have the money to replace the engine again, I'm stuck with it. I don't have the money to pay a shop now so I'm going to have to figure it out on my own. The guy who sold me the engine said it was compatible. His brother in law had the crank sensor done and put it together and installed the engine. I'm wondering what he did wrong to cause the severe oil leak. Maybe reused the old seal? I didn't even know a rear main seal could possibly leak that bad. BTW I told him if he needed to replace any parts I would pay for them, so there's no excuse for not replacing the seal. This has been well over a year ago so I'm stuck with this thing. If I could get these two problems with the oil leak and the knock sensor sorted out the engine runs really well. It runs smoothly and doesn't miss out. It does lack power on the low end which I suspect is because the timing is not being advanced with it not having knock sensors. But that's just a guess I don't know for sure. I'm guessing this is going to behave similar to an older engine that doesn't have a functioning vacuum advance? I'm not even sure where to look to see if there is a wiring harness for the knock sensors. If I could find it I could probably tap the side of the block for the knock sensors. Thanks for the reply.

You can step down the 58x signal to run on a 24x pcm, but 24x cannot step up signal to run on a 58x pcm. @@DurkinDurks just change the lifters to something like ls7 lifters and swap a bigger cam in there's nothing special about that 450hp motor it's basically just a 5.3 with flat tops and their stage 3 truck cam, your gen 4 has flat tops and better cylinder heads put that cam in and you'll get the exact same thing

I have told that the Gen 4 aluminum blocks are stronger than the Gen 3 blocks. Is that true??
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
The Gen III blocks are plenty strong, but there are some improvements that make the Gen IV stronger, but not some crazy drastic improvement in strength, just a little stronger.

@@Sdpartscenter Thank you for the quick reply. I am looking to do a twin turbo 1000 RWHP capable 5.3 liter street engine for my Pro-Touring '95 Chev. Caprice 9C1. A 5.3 liter b/c I want those super thick cylinder liners and extra mating surface area of the small bore VS the 4.0" or the a 4.062" to hold boost. Two I want the weight saving and heat dissipating properties of aluminum. So I moved my gaze from the L33 block to the LH8/LH9 block as a foundation.

hello how are you plz i wanna ask you u have my hummer h3 2006 v5 3.5 i wanna swap to v8 6.0 wich one is better and no need too much electric wirking gen 3 or gen 4 ?
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
The hummer inline 5 is going to be limited by the aftermarket and will be the more difficult route. You will of course have to do quite a bit of wiring and harness work to make the V8 work properly.

The only way is to swap the reluctor ring and cam gear to the newer style.

I got crank out of my 5.3 with new bearings and high volume oil pump.I just heard you say a new cam gear.i had it flashed and it runs great but they had to work around a sensor and sometimes doesn't start right up it cranks awhile.I still have 2005 cam gears.o well.Next next weekend.

So Can a GEN 3 5.3 iron block be turned into a GEN four ?with all accessories from lh6 gen 4 aluminum block
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
Usually with the amount of work involved (including changing the reluctor ring on the crank), you would be better served to just get a Gen 4 and sell the Gen 3 to recoup your losses.
@krazobuildz75674 жыл бұрын
@@Sdpartscenter Will see that’s where the problem occurs because the LH6 GEN4 block is shot and that’s the aluminum block so I was trying to find a cheaper way around but I’ll just have to get me a GEN four iron block

That clears up swapping newer engine to old computer but what about putting a gen 3 engine in a gen 4 vehicle. For example, let's say you have a gen 4 4.8L truck but have a built gen 3 LQ4 engine you want to swap in?
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
If you're going to run a standalone like a Holley Terminator, fire away. The Gen 3 would need a 58x reluctor added to the crank. You can't just increase a 24x signal to a 58x as there isn't a way to properly convert that signal and step it up unlike the Gen 4 engine on a Gen 3 computer wich takes the 58x and steps it down to 24x. You'd also have to find somewhere to mount the knock sensors on the side of the block. Then the cam signal. General rule of thumb there is just sell it to somebody for a good price and get a Gen 4.

So with your engine build, you are using the 24x wiring and sensors?
@Sdpartscenter3 жыл бұрын
For running a Gen 4 engine in a Gen 3 car, you use the 24x wiring harness, the gen 3 knock sensors (moved from the intake valley to the sides of the block), and the gen 4 cam sensor.

Why did the ls1 have a constant problem with rod knock is it the main bearings did they change ? Or the rods ? Asking so I know what to get in terms of reliability? Ls1 or ls3?
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
The piston slap was evident in some LS1s on cold starts that was just the name of the game back then. An LS3 is going to start you off with an engine with more baseline power, and fresher components. It might be a little more investment right off the bat, but the LS3 is a great foundation to build from.

So I have a 07 Escalade that previously had the 6.2 engine that had a 58x reluctor and I’m swapping to a 5.3 that is gen 3 which has 24x reluctor is there a way to make this setup work with original pcm and harness that came with the truck?

The only way is to disassemble the Gen 3 and put a 58x reluctor in it and run a cam with a 3x sprocket. Otherwise, sell the Gen 3 and find a Gen 4. You can step down a 58x crank signal to 24x, you cannot step-up a 24x signal to 58x.
