@@mercywilliams2698 no worries. When a group of bees leaves the hive the do so along with the "old" or "current"( let's call it like that) queen bee. The group of bees staying will make a new one, in fact, they start to breed many before the so called old leaves. Once those queens bees are born just one will remain. It's a little complicated at first fascinating once you get some knowledge. The first thing you have to learn is that the the living being is NOT the bee but the swarm and the bee's let's say they play the role of a cell just as a human being is made of cells. Difficult to explain through here 😔

I'm a beekeeper, and when bees swarm like this, they are at their most docile. You can stand right in the middle of them and not get stung. You can also carefully pick up clumps of bees from a swarm with your bare hands, and won't get stung. Bees only sting when they are provoked, so if one comes near, just leave it and don't panic. the ref getting stung was his fault. He panicked and flapped his hand around, threatening the be, and it stung him.

@PhilEvansNZ Thanks for the tip, but I think it is a natural reaction to swat at a bee. I'll have to remember that if I ever encounter a swarm of bees myself. As a beekeeper, how would you go about transporting all those bees off the court? They seemed to be attracted by the camera. Maybe they confused the shape of it with a hive?

@@lisalivingston6473 The bees are attracted to the queen bee who has landed on the camera. There must be a bee hive not far from the courts. The camera would have to be lowered to the ground, and a beekeeper would scoop up handfulls of bees into a box. Once the queen is in the box, all the bees would follow her into the box. I have collected many swarms like that. Search on youtube for "catching a swarm of bees" to see how its done.

Well, there's always a buzz when Alcaraz is on court. And he flies through to the semi-finals, here at the BEE-NP Paribas Open. Plays an un-bee-lievable match that could've gone a little sticky, considering the bee-zzare circumstances. But he made sure there wasn't gonna bee a sting in the tail.

this is a very normal springtime occurrence. new queens are hatched and they fly off and take half the hive with them. they all fly together, the workers following the queen until she finds a suitable spot to build a new hive. then they all huddle around the queen to keep her safe while they start building, but they’re actually quite docile in this state. you can find pics and videos of people “wearing” a whole swarm of bees. left alone, they would all settle together on that camera, and a beekeeper(i’m sure there are hundreds in that area) would come with a hive box and gently brush them in and take them away

It is swarm season folks. This is just honey bees doing what they do this time of year. They will cluster upon something (like the spider cam), and then send out scouts to find a permanent place to build their hive. How do I know this? I am a beekeeper. 🙂
