SWARMED BY AFRICAN BEES - KILLER BEES?

Wild African bees are known for being more easily agitated that normal domestic honey bees. Anneka meets some wild honey bees kept at award winning nature reserve Grootbos in South Africa in order to help pollinate their hectares of restored fynbos. Will she survive?

Not at all....they are far enough from 'home' their instinct is return to protect the colony, not the honey. Secondly the key factor at the hive was the pheromone attracting them...The extracting room was far enough the pheromone could not reach the masses at the colony. Bees do not 'get used to' to people. They are an insect and respond by pure instinct. Bee keepers learn the traits and try to work bees accordingly. The natives just know these bees , as did this beekeeper, and would not likely attempt to open a hive without gear. A European bee would only respond aggressively if they have other issues like bad weather prior to or queen issues, or had been battling predators prior to. And even when they do they will not follow in a swarm more that 50 feet or so...some will follow further but the further away you get the more they head home.

Excellent and so VIP Anneka! Thankyou! So many people just think "honey" when they hear about bees plight. IF they hear at all. And I've heard people say they don't eat honey anyway so..? Ignorance breeds disaster. Just like my friend Megabattie who is with many others, a bat carer in Australia. Bats and bees. Top pollinators. NOT just flowers or honey people! Tho many foods start with flowers there is so much more. If we lose them we lose what feeds our livestock as well. We would be decimated without these beautiful creatures who only attack to protect themselves and their hives or colonies. Bees DIE if they sting you. They aren't like wasps or hornets. "You'll be my honeysuckle. I'll be you're honeybee." I've been known to walk right over to wild bee colonies & look at their entrance & activity, but I've never been bit. Not recommended, kids! Especially if you are fearful or have ill intent. Bees know! The last colony I visited split, forming two colonies, but regrettably neither colony survived long afterward. Love you, Anneka!

Beekeeping has picked up as a matter fact if you're in San Francisco you can pick up honey that's been gathered in different areas of the city on rooftop based hives that's allowing for the honey to come from a certain section of the city. Honey will have a different flavor depending on the time of season and the plant life that blooms in the area. A lot of California honey used to be orange blossom honey and Sage honey. When looking for honey please make sure that it says 100% pure honey. There is a product that they make that is honey flavor and they sell it as if it's honey or they added to honey to make it go longer the United States Imports honey from all over the world so that you can have honey flavored cereal Etc. It is also dangerous to cook with honey they have known this for over 2000 years possibly even longer. Honey when cooked and digested creates a goo or form of feeling in the gut as a human it is not removed through digestion. It slowly if you eat a lot of heated front honey covers your intestines and you will not receive nutrients from your food Etc. That's why everyone was excited when they found out about the secret of sugar. It seems the world has always had a sweet tooth and sugar was the answer. The reason a lot of bee colonies collapsed isn't so much from the environment as they are overworked. Beekeepers used to allow their bees to rest over the winter but when beekeeping fell out of fashion and there were less beekeepers they started moving their bees all over the country to help pollinate areas for agricultural and Orchards needs. Soon the beekeepers found this to be quite profitable. It became a way of life large companies ran large-volume beekeeping 365 days a year never giving the bees a rest. This was not natural to the B. They also didn't care where they pollinated what they pollinated what the B worked on they didn't ask if it was a field that have been heavily has decided nothing they just wanted the money from it an man's need for food is based on the need for bees without bees man would starve to death and that is the truth you're not going to be growing enough food for man to survived in Petri dishes and hydroponic places. no matter how much you're vegans and you're scientists want to tell you it could be done. Even plants you grow from a seed, many of them have to be allowed to flower to create new seeds for you to plant. Unfortunately this overworked the bees and they have become exhausted as more people have gone into beekeeping yes the large bee companies make less money but it is healthier for the bees. The Bees should really be native to the area and allowed to stay in the orchard that they pollinate for as long as a keeper owns them and the orchard owner have an agreement They don't need to be moved around and the orchard owner knows that their trees, this property will always be taken care of. It makes a little more work for The Beekeeper as he has to have these in several different areas and has to drive to those areas but he's not dragging the bees with him. They become stable and are not overworked. The way it was done a hundred years ago. My family that used to be orchardists always had their own bees they never moved them out of the Orchards. They knew the bees also pollinated the wild grapes the chokecherries and all the other things that grew around outside the orchard. Processing the honey from the hives & prepping (cleaning, repairing, splitting) was the best part of the winter activities. The bees were important for us and so we took very good care of them. I never see beehives without a great sense of love and concern for them. I know without them mankind would never have become what it has for the bees have provided the food that we lived off of, carried with us to new homes. Bees helped us survive in new countries as they pollinated old & new foods. All they asked for was peace. The opportunity to smell the roses, make their honey & just be.

@mjv sorry I put too much into that post, and I am disabled the software doesn't do what I ask it to do or do what they say it will do which is put in the commas etc for you. I use a voice software. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't trying to correct it is very difficult can take me hours just to do a tiny paragraph if I go back and make everything perfect. I have been thinking about a channel just give me another 6 months I just got brand new computers and then covid-19 came on. So the computer guy can't come out and make sure I got it all right.

Hi Anneka, great to see you buzzing with excitement about bees and the honey they produce great stuff, good for a sore throat, the other reason I am vlogging you is about a little female spaniel dog which was bitten by an adder while out for a walk with the owners in the Highlands of Scotland, due to the envenomation and necrosis of the tissue and loss of the blood supply to the limb it was decided to amputate the hind leg that was bitten to save the dogs life, the reason I mentioned this story is to warn people to be careful when out walking with a pet, as adders are about on heathland and Moores in the summer, to be careful and stay away from Adders and use proper footpaths to walk on to avoid being bitten, as the saying goes an ounce of prevention is far more effective than ten ton of cure, also I will mention one other thing to be aware of is jellyfish which are common in the summertime around our coastline, vinegar is a good way to treat jellyfish stings by pouring vinegar on the area of the stings, anyway stay safe walking and swiming take care and God bless.

Actually there is a type of african bees which is non aggressive they dont sting at all. they are black and small and they have the rearest yammmy honey i have ever tasted in my life.BUT, about those ones in the video, if even if you smoke them at night they will attack you! They nearly killed aman just dont jock with their honey and also if you see a swam normally at lunch hours at the pick of the sun, dont you dare make noise b'se they will attack you for being loud i guess😄

Honey bees really are not dangerous or aggressive they rarely attack, but the African Honey bees are really the same bee and is a honey bee, but are extremely aggressive and do attack. We used to have a honey bee hive by our house, we'd throw rocks at us to see if they'd chase us etc, they really don't, just just leave you alone, they are the least aggressive compared to hornets and other types of bees, but the African Honey Bee very similar but slightly bigger and bolder markings are the most aggressive and can sworm have killed.Of course we watched My Girl, so we thought the honey bees would attack and chase us but they never did, nor did the black wasps that hung around our garden were very docile. We used to be terrified by the long black wasps as they looked creepy, thin, long, and long stingers but they never ever bothered us.

Smoke masks alarm pheromones that are released by guard bees that are injured during a beekeeper's inspection and therefore creates an opportunity for the beekeeper to open the beehive and work while the hive's defensive response is interrupted. They dont think there's a fire.... that's just really wrong. Also this video does a great job of pushing the "aggressive bee" idea. Being defensive and being aggressive are polar opposites, treat bees with respect and dont approach their hives unless you really know what you're doing and you will never ever be bothered by one.

You are so wrong with you assumptions. I guess you never had the opportunity to work with Bee's ? I do, and Love it. I won't steal the Honey tough, just trying to preserve them as a species. Anyway, the smoke does a little of Both. Mainly to make them fill their bellies to be ready for the Escape "in case the fire reached the Hive". They get a bit tired of the eating, just like we do. This is what gives us, bee keepers, the time and calm to check on the Hive. Btw, with European Bee's i never Used smoke. Not even Gloves. Yess it is on standby, but with European Bee's they can sense if you are No Danger to them. If you go gentle on them, they go gentle on you Times i got stung are still countable on one hand, less as Five times in many years! And the sting is actually doing good for your body so if it happens once, fine
