About
This video was created with clips from my High-Risk Vehicle Encounters (HRVE). This tactical vehicle course serves all police officers regardless of their current assignment. That includes SWAT officers, Patrol officers or tactical team officers. The course is designed to give officer a process where they can guarantee hits when presented with a lethal threat while the officers are inside their vehicle.
#tactical #police
My mission here is to provide tactical training, and police education to police officers through what I believe is the best information possible to the best of my abilities.

My department implemented high risk vehicle stop training this past year and we learned some very useful things. For one, it was demonstrated using a variety of live rounds (9mm, 10mm, .40, .357 Sig, 5.56, 6.5, 12 00 buck, 12 slug) and a seized vehicle what parts of the vehicle offer the most and least protection. That standing in the open door is a great way to soak up bullets. Doors and windshields will get you killed. We were taught to use the A, B, and C pillars, as they offer the best chance of stoppage or deflection to incoming rounds. We move to the rear or side of the vehicle immediately, placing at least two of those pillars between us and threat. It was great training and needs to be taught everywhere because I was taught to use the open door in the academy years ago and I'm certain that is still being taught most places now.

No one in this video or my course is taught to stand or stay at the door for cover or concealment purposes. I’m not sure if that is what you are implying. They are taking the first available opportunity to engage the suspect and moving to put as much of the car between them and the bad guy as possible.

@@Forward_Concepts I'm not implying anything. That's practical advice that might be of use to someone reading this. I'm not attacking you, it's just another bit of information that I learned that will build on stuff like this to maximize officer safety.

It’s popular in a certain group to shit on vehicle classes. “All of this is dumb you’re just going to die” or “run and return with volume of fire”. The problem with that train of thought is you can’t/don’t need to be indiscriminately firing at the aggressor/ambusher because there are more than likely innocents all over the place. In my opinion that train of thought comes from guys who come from overseas work where it wasn’t a concern. I get it but domestically we have a lot more to worry about.

I've heard of that thought on vehicle classes. I do think that the thought is geared towards vehicle ambush classes that teach officers to shoot through their windshield, of which I am only vaguely familiar with. That being said, in my class I teach officers the inconsistencies with making that decision resulting most likely with indiscriminate firing as you mentioned. I give cops a process to avoid that situation all together, and put accurate rounds on target as soon as practical.

Also, I think its far more likely ,in our profession, that we will use a rifle or our service pistol in situations that have very little to do with CQB

I think we focus too much on CQB and room clearing because it's sexy. We don't train enough on the stuff what we will normally encounter

I will say this. I like the fact that you don't teach from a place of authority. I also like the fact that you call out the BS from some of the Teir 1 tactical guys. There are so much theatrics that go on just to look cool in this industry. Tier 1 guys know their shit and we can all learn from them, but we also need to be able to think for ourselves and question stuff that doesn't make sense. You aren't perfect, like anyone else, but you atleast don't blindly teach BS. I also know that it is very difficult to cram a bunch of knowledge into a short video.

What is going on with the dude with Chem lights hanging off the back of his plate carrier. Gonna look like a Christmas tree when he cracks them on brushing up against the wall or caught on something. Also when you get out a vehicle, get to cover. Don’t stand in the open like it’s a one way flat range.

Hi Carter Blake. 1. Chem lights can be used to mark entry/exit points, link up points, hot or cleared areas or staging locations. 2. If you watched the same two minutes as everyone else, and had maybe some experience with a sprinkle of tactical sense… then you probably saw dudes covering other dudes as those other dudes were moving to cover. Therefore that has to be done in a manner in which the officer covering the other can see the threat and also not shoot his partner..,which also has to briefly happen in the open.

@@Forward_Concepts Thank you for the reply. I understand what you are trying to do, but you still don't want to stand out in the open. If this is happening in real life chances are there is some form of cover/concealment around. If you are getting out, you are most useful sprinting the extra 5/10 yards to some cover/con where you are presenting less of a target and can return effective fire. Whilst your man is covering the other, he's putting himself at undue risk where his partner could get to cover and then have to go back out to pick him up.
