Courtney, I agree with some of the comments, that the “frizzy” look is beautiful. It looks wild and carefree. It looks softer. Curly hair is imperfect.

I think the most important thing I learned from this video is that “your frizz” bothers you way more than it bothers anyone else! Like you, looking close at your hair in this video, I would deem it a bad hair day. But looking at your hair from afar, it looks awesome! I need to remember that people are not up close and personal checking out my hair during the day. Fearfully and wonderfully made!

Honestly Courtney your hair looks gorgeous whether it’s smooth or ‘frizzy’. Having struggled with mega frizz in my younger days(you’d should see the pics I never needed a perm in the 80’s!😅) I’m thankful that in my later years my hair has calmed down but rarely do I see mega frizz nowadays maybe because of improved hair products.

It's true that your hair looks really pretty in a wild and savage way 😂, I love it ❤. I think it's super interesting how the perception of our self and how other people see us can be completely different. In my case, when I have frizzy hair, I think "oh, it looks pretty" then I touche it and think "Oh, it's terrible" because it's tangled and rough 😂

Thank you for going over the basics. I’ve been wearing my hair wavy/curly for 9 years and I feel like it’s not as curly due to my own changed habits. It may be by mistake, so I appreciate the reminder of the tried and true process. Have a wonderful new year!

Yep. My hair improved once I added a clarifying shampoo. It was a discovery for me. The other thing was that my hair was frizzy because it wasn't wet enough when I styled it. So now I'm really knowledgeable about what my hair loves or doesn't love, and I'm happy with my waves/curls. Another thing that help was the use of styling and detangling brushes.

Hehe. Yeah. I'm back to wanting to try this after a stint with short hair and blow dried bobs. And just wearing my hair in a loose ponytail, pretty much, for the last 6 months or so. I remember watching a couple of your videos when I was trying the curly girl method first, a couple years ago. Gald to see, you're still around and your hair is thriving! Now let's get rid of that frizz together!

Maybe instead of going for permanent dye, you could try glazing instead. It’s demi-permanent, so it washes away gradually. Talk to your stylist and get their thoughts.

I’m in transition of the perimenopause kind, lol. All of a sudden my straight hair has started getting wavy. I’m about a year into it but I have long hair so only the top 8 inches is wavy. It’s hard not reverting back to heat styling my hair to make it all one texture, but I’m resisting so that I don’t damage the new waves and make the transition take even longer. So basically I’m gonna look a hot mess until i can chop off the old straight stuff. It’s frustrating! But I’m learning a lot with your content and can’t wait for the tricks to work.
@SwavyCurlyCourtney3 күн бұрын
It sounds like you're navigating quite a transition with your hair! Embracing the new waves can be tricky, but you're doing a great job resisting heat styling to protect them. Don’t worry about the mixed textures for now; it's all part of the process. Keep experimenting, and remember, patience is your best friend here. I’m here to help you every step of the way!

I totally understand where you’re at. I always had S-waves, but two pregnancies and later menopause turned my waves into honest to goodness curls. Menopause also changed my texture from coarse to soft. I got my first curly girl dry cut in fall 2019. It took a couple of cuts for D to get rid of all the “texturizing” layers I had. (My profile pic is about 2 years into the journey.). Enjoy the ride as your hormones take you to the curly side. And don’t be afraid to start the curly girl habits now while you’re in transition.

@@ItsJustLisa mine always had body but menopause turned it curly. Used to be fine and a lot of it now with the gray it’s a mixture of coarse/fine.

I have a straight-ish patch that is coarser, but fortunately, it's starting to develop a wave at the end with brush styling. I can then blend it in with a curl clump just below it.

I'm about a month into figuring out that I actually have wavy hair, but am frustrated and having a Willy Wonka Veruca Salt issue (Don't care how, I want it NOW!). Great big blobs of gel give me waves for a couple hours, at least and I'm taking time to try and find products that work. Deep breaths and baby steps. All the guys at work think my hair looks great though! I do have a shower head with a filter in it so people with hard water might give that a go. Thanks for all the great videos and calming advice. :)

It took me 18 months to get rid of all the chemical straightening in my hair. My frizz is linked to glycerin, there is a very small window were the dew point allows me to use stylers with high quantities of glycerin (only came across a couple of formulations which escape this rule)... Each wavy-curly head is unique 😊
@SwavyCurlyCourtney2 күн бұрын
You know it’s funny I used to notice glycerin, causing more frizz in my hair. But now I don’t notice that being an issue at all anymore.

When I look back at my "before photos" I like to think of them as good wash days at the time like when I was 12 years old learning how to do my hair. Anyway, am I the only one who didn't straighten my hair hardly ever but instead asked for a curling iron for my 12th birthday? I also had two perm mishaps as a teenager.

Build up can stay of the end of hair. It is also best to shampoo the ends of hair on the last wash of shampoo. Also another way to avoid frizz is to not touch hair as much.
@SwavyCurlyCourtney3 күн бұрын
I actually recommend gently pulling the lather through the lengths of your hair. This method works wonderfully-it cleanses effectively without roughing up the hair cuticle, so you avoid causing any damage.

I feel like my hair looks better when I use conditioner that has silicone in it and it’s silicone free whenever I’ve used a silicone free conditioner I can always tell cause my hair does not look good. It makes it more like frizzy and more tangled even though I have naturally curly hair and that’s the kind that they encourage. I feel like with curly girls to like not have silicone in them. I feel like my curls actually like silicone conditioners.
@SwavyCurlyCourtney3 күн бұрын
It sounds like you've found what works best for your hair, and that's the most important thing!
@DRVenard2 күн бұрын
There's a really good reason that conditioners had silicones in them... until recently, when someone did that silly scrape test. Silicones make hair smooth. It fills in all the lifted cuticle damage to make it smooth and shiny. Of course, TCGM demonized them for build-up. We'll, yeah, when you don't wash your hair (yep, coswashing) ANYTING will build up. Now that they finally decided to put the demonized sulfates back in shampoos, silicones are a non-issue. Wash your hair, use silicones, and be happy 😁💗💗💗

@@SwavyCurlyCourtney but doesn’t the V and Co conditioner showed in the video have silicones ? I want to try it out but that keeps me from trying it.
