She is so beautiful! Watched the movie last night and had me so full in heart and spirit. 😍. What's funny is I just shaved my head 2 weeks ago...and I love it! It's so important for folks to honor the space they're in & celebrate their inside songs ✂😍

@@thewordsmith5440 well black women have willingly been accepting the standard set by whites for so long...now when we come out and say our natural hair texture is our standard....folks wanna complain....wtf....if u wanna stick to the Euro standard...by all means do so, but dont be threatened and try to knock those that want to embrace their natural hair.... Black folks always tearing down other black folks.....And most black men I know love black women with their natural hair vs..they Euro standard. So go figure

Happy Belated Birthday Sanaa a.k.a my favorite actress! 😍😍😍 I lost count of how many times I watch and quote Love & Basketball💚💚💚. I married my Q, and it’s the best decision I ever made🏀🏀🏀. Thank you for this Netflix series to help us as black women have self-acceptance! We are beautiful whatever our hair looks like. Society has conditioned us not to embrace our natural beauty, especially in the entertainment industry. I wrote a Grad paper on this. I am not my hair😍😍😍, freedom😇😇😇 We love you Sanaa!

Listen beauty is beauty to me...brothers will get at sistas regardless of whether y'all got hair or not...there is more to a black woman's beauty than just hair. So the truth is out as we as black men has always said and known it to be. Black women don't buy bundles of hair from the Koreans to look good for black men....that's the conditioning from society... Hell...look at Black Panther..all those women the Dora Melaje....are extremely beautiful. Good Job Sanaa.

@Brandon L. WHY on Earth would a black woman try to compete with a non black woman? I'll wait...but , no I won't. Black MEN were constantly showcasing NON black women or only light skinned sista's with ONE darkskin sista in a video... and that's just what was for the whole world to see! I for one fell for the okey doke between ages 17-21 by wearing a relaxer... Aside from that ignorant period in my life, I instinctively knew just how beautiful I am from full lips, high cheekbones, thick healthy afro and a NATURALE small waist and plump, onion booty....like, how do you not equal Beautiful when you look like that AND smile...lol. I'm just happy to see other black women finally embracing our various hair coils/curls over the past decade with wearing their natural hair. Now we gotta deal with the booty snatchers.

Just finished this and I love it , the best role I have ever seen sanaa Lathan play , #Sanaalathan @sanaalathan , the things black women will never admit they feel , i have chopped my hair off before ( I am married and my husband was fine with it but right now i am talking about the perception of other guys , people and myself ).. other guys ignored me and nobody really looked at me anymore , , why did I ever choose to do something so dramatic , but secretly I loved it , I did not have to worry about my hair , i could get up and go, and sometimes it’s nice to be ignored and in the background, I finally knew what it was like to be completely bald and to be free , but I grew my hair back enough to get it braided and was so happy because now I would be back to wear I was before , back to getting attention and being called beautiful... it’s been 3 years and I been covering up my natural hair with sew ins and braids and I finally got my hair permed , and now I can wear my hair in which ever way I want and I feel better but what I will never admit 🙂😌 is that I am ashamed of my natural hair and I don’t like it.... before anyone gets upset just listen ....straight hair is what’s supposed to be beautiful and that’s what I have always thought .... white women always glorified on tv which is all I saw when I was little , always wanted straight hair, now I won’t even go out in public without my weave , I won’t even show my natural hair even though it’s permed , I love long hair but I’m happy this movie came out because it’s nice to relate to something:)

I am going natural you inspired me mama!!!! 21 years relaxers, hot-combs, braids, weaves, wigs, and hairpieces. You and my mom who's been natural for 12 years now it's just better to do no chemicals and if your hair grows go with it. It's healthier and just better to be your authentic natural self and if you want to rock wigs go ahead they can be fun and enjoy yourself.

Great interview... Madam CJ Walker did not invent Hot comb...The hot comb was an invention developed in France as a way for women with coarse curly hair to achieve a fine straight look traditionally modeled by historical Egyptian women.[3] Parisian Francois Marcel Grateau is said to have revolutionized hair styling when he invented and introduced heated irons to curl and wave his customers' hair in France in 1872. His Marcel Wave remained fashionable for many decades. Britain's Science and Society Library credits L. Pelleray of Paris with manufacturing the heated irons in the 1870s.[4] An example of an 1890s version of Pelleray's curling iron is housed at the Chudnow Museum in Milwaukee.[5] Elroy J. Duncan is believed to have invented and manufactured the first hot comb or heated metal straightening comb in America.[citation needed] Sometimes the device is called a "pressing comb." During the late 19th century, Dr. Scott's Electric Curler was advertised in several publications including the 1886 Bloomingdale's catalog[6] and in the June 1889 issue of Lippincott's Magazine[7] Marketed to men to groom beards and moustaches, the rosewood-handled device also promised women the ability to imitate the "loose and fluffy" hairstyles of actress Lillie Langtry and opera singer Adelina Patti, popular white entertainers of the era.

As a man I think I have a responsibility to beat the stereotype of a woman's beauty is her hair. Sometimes I want to just give strange women compliment on their natural hair but I just don't know a woman's momentary state of mind. May be on that day compliment mean pity or pick up line. So I have genuine fear to just give compliments. When I was single and looking. I never had this problem but I'm now married. Can't afford mixed signals even if it's one sided. Your beauty should correlate to healthy living. If it's unhealthy, it's probably not worth it. Love you all and take care of your natural hair ladies.

I watched the movie yesterday on Netflix and I LOVED IT! I can relate to the hair thing. It is funny because before I watched the movie on Friday, I got tired of my long natural hair-I cut my hair off (not bald but really short) on Wednesday. But i wore a scarf on my head because I was not comforable with my new short hair. After watching a scene in the movie-the lady said "you have to own it," I took the scarf off and start rocking my short hair.

Like ATL, in Nigeria you'll see such a wiiiiiide range of women and styles, everyday you'll discover beauty in new way. Very soon you see that the American/Pop-culture standard isn't the only one. It's all about how you rock it. Your energy and confidence are waaaay more attractive regardless of your hair. ... .. . **Also, Black don't crack!!**

The hair thing goes back to scripture, because it says that a woman hair is her crown, referring to prayer covering. It was said that if a woman cut her short it was a disgrace to herself and her husband. Obviously, that was a cultural thing for that era...
