SWBF - Executor Takeoff

It's a big ship.
A few notes, given this is my most popular video (thanks algorithm):
- Is it the Executor? Is it the Ravager? I've not been able to find any canon confirmation as to which SSD it is, but they're all Executor-class so if we're being pedantic the video title is correct.
- Is it supposed to be capable of atmospheric flight? Rogue One and Solo showed regular ISD-Is in-atmosphere, and in Legends the Lusankya SSD managed to launch from beneath Coruscant's surface. On Jakku WA you can see the Ravager crash into the surface, and in Supremacy you can see it engaged in a huge in-atmosphere firefight. As far as I can see, the canon is that capital ships can go in-atmosphere.
- From what I know, this only happens if the Imperials are doing well on the early phases of Walker Assault on Sullust.
- This was recorded in Battlefront's offline mode on PC, with a cinematic camera tool. Explains why X-Wings like to perform strafing runs on the cameraman every now and then.
- I initially recorded this to show a friend.

Making a statement after the damage is done doesn't hide the fact the damage is done. This is just one in a VERY long line of EA fuck ups that have pissed off consumers, and you think one statement is going to clean all of that up? Not only that, but they even say they're planning to reinstate it at a later date, in a game you've already paid for, which is half of the argument against it. They sell DLC for DLC in The Sims 4, they plan to reinstate micro-transactions into Battlefront II further down the line if they haven't already (I've personally decided not to get BFII2017), they release Mass Effect Andromeda as an unfinished and broken mess and now Anthem is in the spotlight because of their recent fuck ups. If there is even one thing wrong with Anthem, there is so much attention on them now that it's likely to cause absolute hysteria. It's an absolute shit-show and people aren't happy. This isn't a bandwagon, this is people being justifiably angry against a company that has consistently and remorselessly fucked up in recent years. When you manage to fuck up so hard that government groups across Europe and America start debating new laws because of you, it's not a bandwagon, it's a seriously bad sign.

The executor wasn't destroyed by the A wing only. It had multiple redundant control stations so destroying the bridge is not enough. The Executor crashed on the Death Star II because it took also a lot of punishment from the MC cruisers and fighters disabled its engines. Piett also placed it too close to the Death Star, so it got caught in the gravity well and crashed on the surface when the engine malfunctioned. You can see that just before the crash.

@@Ext3rmin4tor This! ROTJ does a poor job of illustrating just how badly damaged the executor was. Remember, Ackbar ordered all fire to be concentrated on it in order to take it out. Rebels badly damaged the engines and they also took out the shields. Once the bridge was taken out, it simply went where gravity pulled it. Fun Fact. The star destroyer you see blowing up as Ackbar orders all fire onto the executor is The Devastator, Vaders personal Flagship before completion of The Executor as seen in Rogue One and A New Hope.

To them however I remind them of this: Most starships have the capacity to manipulate gravity as shown by artificial gravity on starships - so that means the Star Wars universe has a greater understanding of physics than we do, so is it really that difficult to imagine that they have anti-gravity tech which allows star ships to support structural integrity on their own weight when in the gravity well of a planet?

more that the old Expanded universe mentioned that star destroyers and especially SSD like executor were to heavy to just hover above ground. Their engines were powerful enough to lift them if on a sharp angle like the lusankya when she escaped Coruscant But the engines would devastated everything within 259 square kilometers. smaller ships like victory and venators were able, but not star destroyers.

I think its possible that perhaps they were using tractor beam batteries in order to help 'lift' the SSD up from the ground - much like how larger ships in current navies need smaller ships like tug boats in order to get underway.

So there is only a certain level of realism. in fact if it happens That would cause intense atmospheric turbulence similar to a hurricane within tens of minutes. Nearby houses will be damaged. Unhealthy structures are prone to breaking down. The same thing happened when the Boeing 747 hovered around the house at speeds close to sound. But the Boeing 747 is only 70 meters long. Imagine a 19,000 meter object moving faster than a Boeing 747 in the atmosphere. It would make a huge impact even tens of miles away.

the executor is 19km long, the horizon on the ocean is 5km that means if the executor were to land on our ocean the curvature of the planet would prevent you from seeing the whole length because of its sheer size if sullest were about the same size as earth then it'd be practically impossible for the executor land without risking structural integrity

It’s this kind of atmosphere that Battlefront 2 lacked. The maps in this game felt ALIVE. You’ve got an executor taking off on Sullust, capital ships falling out of the sky and fighters raining down with them on Jakku, fleets coming out of Hyperspace on Tatooine. Battlefront 2 didn’t have anything like that, at least not that I have noticed. I wish more games would try to liven up it’s map atmosphere, both figuratively and in this game’s case, literally.

Than explain the Lusankya to me, the Lusankya was the sister ship of the Executor, built and buried on Coruscant where it served as a prison facility until the Imperial Remnants took it and left. The going theory for the Lusankya was to serve as a "Noahs' Ark" for Coruscant during the upcoming Yuuzhan Vong War in the realistic possibility that the invaders were to make it to the Core Worlds and siege the capital, just as it was done in the EU Books.

A ship that size wouldn't and shouldn't be landed on a planet. It's scale wouldn't support that strength of gravity, thats why larger ships remain around orbiting stations and take shuttles down.

Indeed, SSDs canonically *can* at least take off from planets. And while it's probably not really *practical* to do so, it's well within SW capabilities. Star Wars ships are immensely durable. It may be a different axis, but remember that every time it accelerates it's undergoing far, far more strain. Moreover their engines are more than powerful enough to allow such as ship to reach orbit. They also have technologies such as inertial dampeners and repulsors to assist. (This is clearly using repulsors, as A: it's moving only a few hundred meters a second and B: the atmosphere has not turned to plasma)

If I remember right Lusaknya was in a gigantic repulsor lift cradle that allowed it to break out of the atmosphere and into orbit, where it ditched the cradle and escaped with it's own engines. Effectively it cheated by using a gigantic anti gravity lift, so it is possible just not likely under their own power like the Executor is in this video. With that said, it did look pretty friggin awesome.

It's pretty, but a ship as long as the Super Star Destroyer shouldn't be able to land on a planet. It's so long that the curvature of the planet would become an issue in supporting it. Only its middle section would be supported. Unless it was landing on a platform that would appear, from the ground, to be massively curved. And, tactically, it does not make sense for massive capital ships to be inside of a planet's atmosphere, let alone landed. They're just huge targets at that point. Spaceships of that scale should be kept where they have the best advantage....in space. And with those huge ships taking off like that, those thrusters should be deafening loud. That should be the only thing that anybody on the ground would be hearing at that point.

First off, you clearly underestimated how big planets actually are. So curvature don't mean shit. Secondly, it's science fiction. These ships have the means to manipulate gravity and in the star wars universe, tractor beams and shields exist. Those smaller ISD's could easily be helping it lift off and for all you know they may not even be using their main thrusters for their main source of movement (inside the planet) and even if they are, you don't know how they work and whether they would even create high amounts of noise. You cannot compare everything we know in reality to a show/story that solely revolves around science fiction that barely relies on pseudo-science to begin with.

A Super Star Destroyer is 19 kilometers long. Over that distance, curvature does matter, even if it's to a small degree. That should bend the ship. Maybe its superstructure is designed for some flexibility, but that can't be good for its structural integrity, especially in dealing with stresses caused by atmospheric flight. And the thrusters of all of the vehicles are glowing...that should mean that they are doing something, and that would be generating thrust. That's consistent with how they are portrayed throughout the movies and related TV shows. Otherwise, they should be dark. The only thing that repulsorlifts do is cancel out gravity...the ships still need thrusters to push them around. And thrusters on ships that huge should generate a huge amount of noise. And the whole point of science fiction is to show how advancements in technology affect people/events in the story. It's got some grounding in a sense of realism, even if there are some fantastical elements involved, so it's natural to try to make some sense of the technology being used rather than to handwave it all as being magic. Because you're pretty much arguing for magic here.

Prior of the Ori Curvature matters a lot. You ever been to the beach and saw ships disappearing beyond the horizon, just a couple miles away? That happens exactly because the surface of the ocean is curved. With Object the size of Executor, assuming it makes contact with the middle part, both ends would end up hanging more than 100 feet in the air - that's a serious structural stress.

Patrick Bright additionally, it's safe to assume that when SSDs land, it's at specialised landing pads/facilities that are built with the curvature of the planet taken into account so that the landing supports are flat relative to the surface of the destroyer. I imagine SSDs don't land often, but given that Sullust is a major Imperial installation perhaps this was the most efficient method of refueling/maintenance.

To be exact, that's an SSD (Imperial Superstardestroyer). The Executor is just one of about 13 ships of this class. Others are were hidden on Corouscant for Palpatine, taken over by rebels, pirates or simply destroyed (for example the Ravager during the battle of Jacku) I'm not sure however when exactly how many of them were being used.

Its an Executor class star dreadnought with the Executor being the first in its class the term super star destroyer comes from its original codename of the super class star destroyer used to circomvent the imperial senate when it still exsisted to actually create the line of ships
