Swedish third tier team Torns IF have found a creative way to create one-on-ones with the goalkeeper.
Subscribe to Guardian Football ► is.gd/GuardianF...
It's based on a rule found on page 93 in the Laws of the Game stating that "the first point of contact of the ‘play’ or ‘touch’ of the ball” should be used when judging offside, although it might not be straightforward to outwit defences. In light of this finding, the International Football Association Board have agreed to review the wording of Law 11.

Free kick exploit: one player stands on the ball while the taker kicks it. In the post-whistle interim, other runners can take up positions behind the defensive wall. If the defenders are alert, they could rush at the ball while it's being stood upon.

Could the first player just place a foot on top of the ball and then have a second kick it (similar to how a FG is taken in American football). The first touch would be the offside touch and the second would be the pass. would this also circumvent an indirect kick? Is it two simultaneous touches?
@АмериканецвРоссии-и4б

No, this wouldn't be legal. The runners are offside at the time the taker touches the ball. The fact that another player is also touching the ball is irrelevant.

@АмериканецвРоссии-и4б 11 ай бұрын
@@mrchewbacahimself7807 This wouldn't work - it wouldn't cancel offside (see above) and it also wouldn't circumvent an indirect kick. The rule states that the ball is in play when "the ball is kicked and clearly moves", so the first player is irrelevant. If he moves the ball, then it does circumvent an indirect kick (and this is even done sometimes), but again doesn't cancel offside.

I refereed for 17 years professionally and yes, you are correct in what you are stating. That being said, you would also know as well as I do that the moment it occurs in any game FIFA would introduce a directive to referees bodies to prevent this from happening as it is an attempt to circumvent the offside law. You would also know that there are laws about players "holding" possession of the ball without release such as balancing the ball on their heads etc.

This certainly highlights why VAR should not be checking offsides to within millimeters - the same degree of accuracy cannot be equally applied to the moment the ball leaves the foot or head of the passer. Also a ball squashes on contact. Unless they don’t show it on TV, VAR does not zoom in on the foot of the player passing the ball to check there is the same millimetre of space between ball and foot. Decimal points cannot be invented if they don’t exist in the original data.

according to the laws of the game, the offside determination is made at the point the ball is first touched, if you are onside at this point then you can go anywhere to receive the ball and still be onside. The loophole is the law never says how much time is allowed to elapse between the first touch and release. In practice, the release is almost instantaneous, unless you do this weird balance-the-ball first touch, then release the ball from the balance way later. In this case, a player can balance the ball (first touch), then his teammate in an onside position can move to an offside position, then the player can release the ball to him, and the play will be considered onside because the teammate who received the ball was onside way back when the first touch (balancing the ball) was made.

@Kreze202
@Kreze202 Жыл бұрын
@@narrator_7 So the rule basically states that whether or not a player is offside is determined when the ball first touches the player that's passing the ball. In almost every realistic case, the ball leaves a passer's foot in the initial contact between the passer's foot and the ball. However, this creates a loophole like in the video. If the passer's foot stays in contact with the ball, then the time of the initial contact of the ball and when the ball leaves the passer's feet is different. Imagine if the passer receives the ball and no one else is offside. The passer controls the ball in a way that his feet never leaves the ball, or in other words the passer's feet always stays in contact with the ball. Because the rule states that offside positions are determined on the initial contact and no one is offside when the passer receives the ball, no one CAN be offside until the passer stops touching the ball. So, the passer stays in contact with the ball, and a teammate makes a run forward beyond the last defender. Normally, this would be offside, but because the teammate is still onside when the passer first touched the ball and the passer is still touching the ball right now, he is still considered onside according to the rules.

Didn't Kerlon used to do something like this,? dribble the ball on his head all the way, opponents have no choice but to foul him to get the ball

I know this video is just a joke, but in case anyone here thinks that it‘s really a loophole, this would never work in a real match, therefore it‘s a non issue.

could easily work, just needs the ball on his foot for 2 or 3 seconds, attacker can get a few metres advantage, scoop pass, job done
@92brunod

@@tomb9625 No referee would not call the offside even if it's technically not an offside. So no, it won't work in reality.

I imagine it can work in corners or throw-ins in tight corners, you balance the ball and pass it to a teammate who runs past the defense. Worst case it's a time wasting tactic lol

Isn't the "first point of contact" the moment the ball lands on a player's foot - NOT the moment it leaves??
@rufus2328

@Norce555

The point here is that the player WAS onside when the ball touched the passing player's foot. And since he maintains contact with the ball, the attacker can run offside all he wants, because they technically can only count offside from the first moment it touched the foot

Can we not go back to the offside rule of 40 years ago? It was so much simpler then and everyone not only understood the rules but also didn't have to stand/sit around for several minutes wondering whether a goal could be celebrated. Also, the lino flag went up immediately not 30 seconds later and 30 yards down the field. I mean. how freaking stooopid is that? Players make tackles that needn't be made; someone is going to get seriously hurt one of these days because of the ridiculous rules.
