The difference with Ohtani and judge is that Ohtani isn’t having a hot bat stretch but he still gets on base even if he’s not hitting well with beating out ground balls or getting walks. Judge is just straight up striking out.

Ohtani is playing lead off and the Yankees are always waiting for him to come around in the order to switch in a new pitcher. His at bats are letting Mookie, Freddie and the others see what is coming, which helps the team. @@---ny4ysDat wrong, dude.
@sskmanentsa5326Ай бұрын
Even that 10th inning was built on try to avoid him, as they did not want any runner on base. Once Lux got the walk, they wanted weak contact on Edman for a double play, a risk that did not work so they then did the pitching change to "attack" him, where he got the contact, which was probably a foul ball, but the fielder had to risk it, and that did not work, leading to the runners advancing and then the walk on Betts. Boom, grand slam. Had that been Judge, the pitcher would have not been worried that much, as pitchers are daring him to hit.

Didn't know Shannon knew baseball like that, very nice. He is absolutely correct in baseball your postseason success doesn't out weight your regular season greatness. Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr, Ted Williams all never won a ring or had much postseason success, they are still objectively some of the greatest ever.
@aiyer917Ай бұрын
Made a lot of good points, was very surprised
@therealjax.1194Ай бұрын
I definitely get the point, but there's a couple issues. One, I think your player selection was bad. Griffey hit .290, Bonds (while he had his early struggles) still has the greatest World Series OPS+ in history, and Ted Williams played only 7 postseason games in his career (and that too came after he went to fight WW2). I'd also argue people view Griffey and Bonds higher than Ted, though I wouldn't agree with that take. Each player succeeded IN SPITE of their team's success - here, Judge is actually pressing his team. The Yankees 1, 2, and 4 are MASHING the ball right now with Judge being an actual hole in the lineup. And two...it can't be overstated enough: this is the New York Yankees. Postseason greatness is PARAMOUNT to your legacy. It's really hard to quantify it, but that's the take. He will be a Yankee great. But you cannot call yourself a legend, especially in New York, if you don't have that. Jeter never won an MVP, Pettite never won a Cy Young. Judge can change the narrative, but there's nothing but speculation.
@yaakwАй бұрын
Subjectively greater, yes. The postseason matters, period. Line up for postseason teams. Pick your team. Freeman is first pick. Judge and Ohtani get picked a bit later.

Disagree on the postseason bit, Griffey was clutch on the Mariners, Bonds played great on the 2002 WS and Ted Williams was playing through an injury, whilst also carrying the '46 Red Sox offense. (He was hit by a pitch on his elbow prior to the 1946 WS starting. He wont use it as an excuse however)

People who says that Shohei Ohtani is not needed for the Dodgers to win the World Series against the Yankees has very little if any idea at all of what Ohtani brings to the game of baseball. First there is the financial and ratings aspect but that’s a whole different topic by itself. Shohei Ohtani is a big psychological factor when he’s in the game. He not only provides confidence for his team but also instill fear into his opponent. The Yankees has a game plan just to contain Ohtani. Even if he goes 0 for 42 in a seven game series Ohtani is still mighty important. No team will walk a player to let Ohtani bat as we had seen numerous times with Aaron Judge. Game 1 in both the Padres series and this World Series with the Yankees is basically a win or go home game. Without Ohtani’s 3 run home run in game 1 against the Padres, the Dodgers are most likely being swept 3-0 by the Padres and there would be no game 4 and game 5 for the Dodgers pitchers (especially it’s bullpen) to shine. With the latter against the Yankees, Ohtani was the catalyst and the driving force to allow Freeman to have a chance to hit that grand slam. It's true the line up is not that good man we need to get rid of some people and add some better hitters. Judge feels all the pressure he's just not living up to it right now it's happened to the best of them. Bonds,A Rod,,Bonilla a lot of great players have choked in the playoffs just got to get over the hump one time and it helps to give you that confidence judge just presses way too much. This team is 2 predicated on his success to win that spells for Doom. Dodgers were the same way before they got ohtani. If Beets and Freeman didn't hit they lose. So right now Soto and judge are not performing they are getting outplayed by Freeman Betts and Ohtani plain and simple. But it's not like the Dodgers are scoring 10 runs a game. I guess Ohtani's entire postseason performance is apparently null and void because he didn’t instantly transform into Superman in just the first TWO games of a SEVEN-game series, before an injury thoroughly disrupted his swing, leaving him one-handed. Oh, and sure, let’s just conveniently ignore that no Dodger has racked up more than 4 hits so far this series. Apparently, everyone else is just smashing it out of the park like rockstars, consistently going 4 for 5 with at least 5 RBIs in each of these 3 games, while Ohtani was catching some Z’s, right? And remind me, wasn’t it just last season when Mookie and Freeman went 1-21 combined in their unforgettable sweep by Arizona? Shocker, athletes sometimes don’t start smashing records in a stretch of 2 or 3 games. And don’t even get me started on Game 1 of the WS. You would think Ohtani’s clutch double, which tied it up 2-2 in the 8th and set the stage for Freddie’s grand slam heroics, didn’t exist. Without that glorious swing, the Yankees would have practically waltzed through Game 1 without a scratch from that spirit-crushing walk-off. But sure, let’s pretend that spark for the Dodgers was totally irrelevant. Obviously, the series MVP, who spent the entire postseason hobbling around on an injured ankle, didn’t need a shred of confidence booster, right? Classic oversight! Seriously, it seems everyone has developed amnesia regarding Ohtani's great LCS performance, where he had 1.184 OPS, .364 batting average, leading with 9 runs all while moonwalking through bases with his 17 TIMES on base. With a mind-boggling .818 with RISP, the dude basically turned baseball into an artform. He was the unsung NLCS MVP. But of course, let's pretend none of that brilliance ever happened, all because he didn't magically materialize more than two hits during just the FIRST two games of a seven-game saga. Clearly, that's the logical way to measure greatness, by dismissing all his dazzling achievements over an entire series in favor of good old micro-focusing on a minor blip.

@pilot88pro yeah look how that worked out Mr 🤡. They had some of/if not the worse ratings in history. Do you think they'd let that happen again? After all these teams spend, especially the Dodgers? Please. Nothing sells better than rich LA winning in sports. Just saying. Big market teams, especially Cali teams, make headlines and headlines make money. No shortage of money floating around LA. If there team is in the big games, the fans will spend big money. Simple economics. They weren't about to let another small market team in after last season lol. Ohtani and Yamamoto's mega deals have to be justified somehow. With how much everyone rides Shohei, having his team win the big game the same season as his massive contract, now that will sell some stuff and, in turn, also make teams want to spend more. Win win for the league. All about the money 💰 no different than the Rams winning the SuperBowl lol. Spent money on mega stadium, SuperBowl at their home stadium and they win. Convenient? Not so much. Pretty genius honestly and no shortage of idiots who fall for it like yourself. Professional sports are no different than the WWE anymore.

I think it’ll be more traditional with how the arms have been taxes. See how long Honeywell and Casparius can go. If they can combine for essentially a quality start, they’ll go with that. But a lot of this has to do with the O. The approach might change if either the Yankees drop bombs, or the Dodgers O shells. Both teams have missed A LOT of opportunities w/ RISP. The Dodgers have actually been worse than the Yanks there, but the Yanks just haven’t had as many opportunities.
