Love tiger! Great sweep method. But I'm a big guy(6'2" 280) and I personally prefer to sweep as you did at the end where I can remain standing. This only being the fact that I know my own limitations and if I drop to sweep.. and miss or connect, it takes me a bit longer to get to my feet lol. In no way am I knocking your technique because of I had your build and smaller size I would do the same mos def! I am trained in Korean Hapkido but for years I've added Tiger Claw, Shotokan and muay tai to my mix. Tiger by far for me is great to add because if the mechanics, fluid movements and ferocity. Strike, drop em and separate.. genius

Yeah when I'm getting up I use both legs for the sweep and rely on my arm to hold my body up
@goldjaws
@goldjaws 4 жыл бұрын
Ok I'm just weird and flashy what I do is inconvenient because the only thing holding you up is a single arm and the force of your body doing a 360 mostly in the air and if done in fight would probably get you hurt because your entire body I relying a single arm to maneuver your body out of the way so if you don't do it basically every day like I did it would be hard to control because your body is in the air with almost no support and your using every bit of leg muscle you can to get the momentum needed to to let your entire body rely on just the palm of your hand to support your weight and your opponent could strike while you're open if you're not fast enough

Sorry, this wouldn't ever work. I don't like these patty cake styles. If that sweep fails, you are in just about the worst place you can be. Train like you fight is my advice. When you practice with a person who isn't sparring or fighting back, you really aren't getting much out of it. I also am in the camp that wing chun is for killing and maiming people. It isn't a "sport" style. Source, Jiu Jitsu black belt and wing chun practitioner.
@MichaelMa
@MichaelMa 9 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Aultman Yeah, it looks incredibly dangerous. The sweep can easily be avoided by checking the leg. Then the other guy is at a perfect position and has the momentum for a full power roundhouse to the face while you have your hands on the ground.

Kung fu is an old art. And any ineffective moves would have been weeded out by now (it was invented in 1271 according to google anyway) and I doubt people would teach an ineffective move. Maybe you stun them with a strike first. Or maybe since it's such a weird move the person doesn't quite get why the opponent put themselves on the floor and by the time they realize it's too late? I don't know.

+ Meso Phyl kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5LImaFnlr5rf8k Imagine that this (for example) was a real fight, could be practical for Mcgregor after he's worn down "The Mountain" (e.g. massive, strong guy vs small guy that knows how to fight).....
@johnlyon9955
@johnlyon9955 6 жыл бұрын
@Meso Phyl take it back one. MMA, you're there to win and it will be fast and ferocious. A street fight, a Kung Fu practitioner who knows what they're doing will keep a good distance, and will wait for perfect timing in a less tense situation as they have trained to be calm. They will perform this move and be back up before the person is able to react. Furthermore, there is no missing your opponent if you trained well. "Fail in training, but never fail twice, or you have failed me by not learning" said my brother's Kung Fu instructor

Easier said then done. Alot of pros get "out angled" and loose dominant positioning by fakes, feints, blinders, timing, speed, footwork, set ups ect. Its like saying winning a fight is easy just hit him and dont let him hit you back. Cant generalize man.

I believe this technique was used in the movie The Forbidden Kingdom (Jackie Chan and Jet Li), and was used as a counter strike to a high kick, when his opponent lifted his leg for the kick, he dropped beneath it and swept out his other leg. With all the talk of how difficult it is to set up this technique, I believe that may be a useful application. What better time to strike at an opponent's leg than when he's balancing on only one foot?
@79wouter
@79wouter 10 жыл бұрын
What you see in the video is that with the kick, he makes the opponents front foot slip a foot or two. That's enough to make him drop. I think that the slippery-ness of the ground matters a lot. One could argue that the technique would originally have been used on natural terrain, which would make it less useful today. The time it costs to get in a low position would be the trade off for being able to drag the opponents foot two feet. Getting low gives a low kick maximum range.

That's quite a good idea. You'd have to have really good reflexes, but if you caught him with that leg sweep on a high kick, it would be pretty devastating

Oner Sufri if you know how to execute a move, then it works, if you can execute a move correctly, then what's the problem, its an opportunity move, all moves are opportunities moves, if it won't work then don't do it.

@@pocho3881 It could possibly be effective if your opponent happened to be stationery at the time, like if he were frozen or sealed in concrete, ...or perhaps if he just happened to be a lifeless mannequin at the time, or if he had recently been turned to stone, then it could possibly be very effective.

In sparring, I found the only time I could land the sweep was if they were about my size or smaller (please don't try this on someone bigger than you unless you are really confident it's a lot harder xD) and if they were throwing a roundhouse or hook kick. You can grab the kick then do a committed sweep to take them down or you block and sweep out their support leg while they kick. I never got proficient at it and if you use it too much people will get use to defending it but it's definitely a lot of fun to play around with.

ive had his used on me in a fight, by the time i realised what was happening i was already swept. its all about reading your opponent and recognising the opportunity.... and thats remains true for executing any technique, its only impractical if you choose a stupid posuition from which to execute it. for example a superman punch can be stupidly impractical, if you dont set it up your going to jump straight onto the end of a kick.... you cant force anything, set it up though and it can be extremely effective.
