For MS, I think it’s likely they want to get ahead of policies from an incoming Trump administration who has campaigned on ending DEI. For a lot of other companies they do have fiscal responsibilities to investors. It started with tolerance, which extended into the misconception that tolerance meant acceptance. You tolerate things you do not like, you accept things you do like. The assumption that gamers tolerated the DEI agenda meant they accepted it has led us here; people have reached their limits of tolerance and are now proceeding to the next phase, which is to reject. I am in it for the long game. I think the DEI office at microsoft is either undergoing an acronym change, is being outsourced, or is being directly integrated into their individual teams. I'm pretty confident that the DEI office was not the only part of the company filled with insane ideologues. If these companies want my money, then all they need to do is start producing good games again. I haven’t played it yet, honestly I am on the fence because I have built Kratos up as one of my hack n slash video game hero archetypes and it would crush my spirit to play a bait and switch DEI sequel to the 2018 PC version, which I couldn’t get enough of it, beautiful story, strong male role model, and great combat. I am hesitant to even give Ragnorok a chance because I have such high expectations from the 2018 version. I think we’re going to start seeing more of the the East dominate the west. They are taking advantage of the woke void. Look at games like first descendent. Look at those characters. Then compare it to concord. Which live service do you think is going to do better? People need to stop denying the fact that things like aesthetics, themes, colors, character faces, and so on don’t matter. They so do. It’s what catches your attention to wanna try a game in the first place. Do you know why so many people are trying first descendants? It’s because of those characters. Then they find out it’s actually fun. But if those characters look like western woke characters, no one would want to try it in the first place. So where these things matter is that initial appeal. How can you expect somebody to try your game when the cover itself is unappealing? Do you know why they say don’t judge a book by its cover? Because we do.

It’s a double perpetual motion machine, one side does something, the other side responds with outrage, the first side doubles down and does more of what they already did, the other side responds with an equal amount of outrage, and the loop repeats indefinitely, perpetually, or infinitely. I’m pretty sure South Park pointed this out in the Into the Panderverse special. The extremes on both sides keep fighting each other and the fighting makes nearly everything worse.

All this woke dei stuff started out small. First it was making women in video games less attractive. There was likely a sales dip, but the games still made a lot of money. The game developers very stupidly thought they could still make money by averting the male gaze and doubled down. Meanwhile Microsoft and Xbox put out new consoles that pushed development cycles to 7-10 years, now they have a pipeline of games too late in the development cycle to meaningfully fix. The cost would be so high, that even if it was a hit the games would still loose money. Studios got greedy, pumping out live service games they thought would be a money printer for them and failed miserably. We are looking at a gaming apocalypse on the same level as Atari- e.t the extraterrestrial.

I just wish they’d make games we want to play. It’s possible to make great games steeped in left wing values but if you proselytize, you fail, no different than a Jehovah’s Witness. Seriously, who played Hades and cared it was queer from start to finish? It was baked into the story and made sense. Same with diversity. There have been divert smash hits in the past decade - think Moana or Encanto. The problem isn’t really The Message, it’s the people. They’re just not very good story tellers, for the most part. And it’s because there is only one story they want to tell.

The tide is shifting. I'd be ecstatic over that... if it weren't taking the form of cancel culture simply swinging the opposite way. I don't relish the idea of far right wingers running rampant in media any more than I did the far left. In regard to the Jack Black portion of this video. His statement/apology is "too little, too late". On camera he laughed at the statement when it happened. Jack should have made a statement denouncing Gass's statement right then and there. For two reasons. 1. Glorifying/Wishing/Praying for the deletion of another person is wrong, there are no exceptions, PERIOD. 2. They are entertainers. The stage is not the place to soapbox your politics, regardless of which side of the fence you are on. You are paid to entertain, not to spout off politics. Moving forward, I will not monetarily support anything Jack Black is associated. And no that isn't cancel culture. That is me choosing not to support someone that doesn't value human life.
