Reagan is an example of how to write an emotionally abused character well, she’s totally insane, sleep deprived, socially inept, hella smart, and absolutely terrifying to be around. I saw a lot of criticism aimed at this show, and when I watched it I could see why some criticism was thrown at it, but I really really loved the experience. So much so that I really don’t understand a lot of the hate. Everyone has a problem and feels real, like someone you would actually meet in a shadow governmental facility. I don’t understand a lot of the hate, and while some of the constructive criticism is a little off the cuff, a lot of it is genuine. I feel like we got a sample of what to expect from this series, and I’m hoping that the second season will improve on the series, and I also hope that Netflix doesn’t can this show before it really goes anywhere. To anyone that’s seriously hating on this show, It’s going through it’s first growing phase, so give it a little bit of time and watch as it turns into this great series. The one thing you can say about it, it’s not nearly as bad as Family Guy or the Simpsons, I’d watch this show a hundred times over if it was between this and Family Guy. That’s for damn sure.

I fucking love this show tbh. It's one of the few adult shows that feels closer to, say, South Park, than Family Guy. It has a lot of different kinds of humour, so it always leaves you guessing where the jokes will end up, which is great, more comedy shows need to do that. The parody is spot on, too, which is so refreshing for a show that tries to do parody in 2022 (albeit they can sometimes be a bit too on the nose.) The emotional moments really do tear through, too, I'm so damn invested in how Reagan's going to deal with the problem that's come up at the finale. Honestly, Inside Job is the first Adult Show in a long time that's actually treated its audience like adults.

At least Rick (or at least our version) actually lost his family before losing himself and starting to believe that nothing matters thanks to being able to access the multiverse. Just imagine if Rick had also put Beth through the same that Reagan went during her childhood, as in being forced to learn and study science.

I've always felt that there was a huge difference between "black comedy" and "dark comedy." Black comedy is "I shouldn't laugh at this, but I can't help it." Dark comedy is "I know I'm supposed to laugh at this, but I don't want to." And this show is a perfect example of black comedy: going through the stuff Regan goes through is horrifying, but watching Regan go through it lets you see how ridiculous it also is (and lets you enjoy it happening to someone other than YOU). I also love that the show doesn't play EVERYTHING as a joke, so there's room to let the emotions sink it before I can laugh at them again. Regan is a tragic character, but she's also an endearing character, not because she's "relatable" (because, say it with me, that's not a real word), it's because she makes me laugh. THAT'S how you do black comedy.

Everyone here is starting to compare Reagan with Rick. It’s immediately obvious that a most people here have watched or read little and apparently don’t know that characters like Rick have already existed. It is better to look at the character as a new hero and be interested in history than stupidly compare. I could make a list, but at least Professor Farnsworth was one of the first such images in my memory, and Futurama has been there for how many years. But no one writes under the Rick and Morty series. Comments like"Oh, this is just a younger version of the professor." And here there is no need for these stupid comparisons.
