This was one of those rare `glam rock` bands from the 70's that just so happen to be really good musicians. They put out several bangers. Ballroom Blitz is probably their most famous, Love is Like Oxygen, Little Willie, this song and a few others. I was a big fan of their drummer, Mick Tucker. I love his aggressive style and for the time, he was one of the few that not only *had* a double bass, but used it.

This is actually the first song written by the band. Prior to this, the songs were written by their producers. The "fox on the run" is a groupie (fox) that followed (on the run) various bands around that the singer, Brian Connolly, had slept with early in his career. While they never say who, most think he is referring to Pamela Des Barres,a famous groupie in the late 60s early 70s known for sleeping with many many rock stars. When a band learned that Des Barres was there, she was immediately brought back stage because they knew what she was there for "You scream and everyone comes a-runnin...You talk about just every band. But the names you drop are second hand". Connolly ran into her again a few years later, and the years of doing drugs and sleeping with rock stars had taken a toll on her body "...the rest of you is out of place...you looked alright before". He's basically telling her, "You really just need to go hide because you look like shit".

Any one my age, who heard this on the radio when it came out, would swear to you that the line that they typed as F-Foxy was actually the band singing "For Fox Sake" (for fcks' sake). Yeah we were young and immature, sue us lol. But the Sweet are seriously great band. Pure bubblegum pop singles that started their career and then when they took over song writing duties, they took off. A brilliant hard rock glam band only matched by Slade back in the day.

I swear to God this probably has to be my favorite reaction yet. I'm highly biased, because this is one of my favorite all-time songs. And it's by Sweet, which is one of my favorite all-time bands. Lex, this song means so much to me on a joyous and kinetic and yes still Blue Collar musical level for sure. Therefore, you got into it so much and the way you did the little body stuff and all that, means that you totally totally get it. Even though it came out in the'70s. I think you would be excellent as a front person in a band and I know it seem like there was some mention of you guys were learning to play guitar a while back? But I haven't heard it mentioned lately. But it occurs to me based on not just this but all the ones I've watched, you would actually be a really good drummer. Or a percussionist of some sort. Because you get all of that I can just tell. Maybe you should get some percussion and take a couple lessons. At any rate, I love this song so much and it was so popular at that age, that when we went on our spring break road trip to Fort Lauderdale and around 1980, this made it on to our mixtape for the van of seven guys headed down there. And it was fun for 2 or 3 days and then we got bored with it it was too much. So we went down over to the Gulf side and I'm trying to think of the name of that place, I think it had fort in the title. And then there's a beach just south of there and it was just so much more laid back but still lots of fun to be had. We liked that more. But this was a song that got played a lot so you can tell there's a lot of memories wrapped up in it for me but as a musician, I've always loved it and you should check out their other stuff man this entire album is called desolation Boulevard and it's really fun, but they had another monster hit off of that album which I know for a fact you would love love. I know this for a fact. It's so animated and funny and yet it's really a jam for sure. And it's called Ballroom Blitz at the link below. But yeah this band had already been around for a long time before they had these hits off this album, and one of their first early hits I think was in the late 16 it was called Little Willie and it was still on the radio a lot when I was a kid in the '70s. And then in the late 70s they rolled with the changes and released kind of a disco hit but it was kind of prog rock also love is like oxygen. I think I was in 9th grade when it came out and that was a fantastic song too. This is a band that really just kept evolving and they were really good. Back around this time, of your reaction, they were actually starting to be a part of the new genre called Glam rock. Which essentially David Bowie pioneered.

This song is about the groupies that follow rock bands. Andy Scott has done some interviews and tells what a lot of the songs are about. Oh and I forgot to comment on the meeting. I guess it's open to interpretation but being around at the time and at that age in junior high and high or your first starting into girls and starting to play in bands and starting to be out in the scene, not to mention what happens when you get to College age and it goes exponential. So I always took it as you know he's just basically telling this woman that it used to know and perhaps maybe she was a good friend of his a while back. And he always liked her, but he hadn't seen her in a while and now she shows up again and she just really in the scene. She's trying to be a dominant figure in the scene in the fangirl scene or whatever. She's changed her look she's changed her hair, she's gone around dropping band names constantly just to try to be popular essentially. And he's basically just saying you know I liked you better before when you were just simple and not trying so hard. And the names of all these bands that you drop? Let's face it, they're second-hand. You like to think you're right on the threshold as it's all Breaking but you're really a step or two behind despite all the ways that you're trying so hard and the way that you're dressing in the way that you're acting and the people you hang out with.

Per Songfacts in this song, the band is addressing a groupie, who is the "fox on the run." Apparently she's had more than one go with the band, as Brian Connolly sings that she doesn't look the same - probably a bit more worn from her lifestyle. He also makes it clear that he has no interest in hearing her talk and certainly doesn't want to know her name. Sweet was produced by the glam rock architects Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, who also wrote most of their songs, including all of their hits to this point. "Fox On The Run" was written by the band - Brian Connolly, Stephen Priest, Andrew Scott, Michael Tucker - and included on their 1974 album Desolation Boulevard. After the album was released, the band parted ways with Chapman and Chinn and produced their own material. Their first effort was a reworking of "Fox On The Run," which was originally helmed by Chapman/Chinn. Defying predictions of disaster, Sweet proved quite capable on their own, and the new version of "Fox," with a bright chorus and bold echo, became a global hit, reaching #2 UK and charting across Europe (it was #1 in Germany, where Sweet was wildly popular). It also became one of the few American hits for the band when it was released in the US as the follow-up to their single "Ballroom Blitz."

One of their music videos is funny because they make it pretty clear that they were unhappy about having to lipsync. Towards the end, the drummer knocks over the drumset before the song is even over. I loved these guys as a preteen in the 70's. There's a great documentary about them.

This is very good! I'm not very familiar with them, but know good songs from them, too like "The Ballroom Blitz", "Wig-Wam Bam", "Hell Raiser" It sounds almost '80s, because it's '70s glam rock (also known as hair bands in the '80s, 90s). Poppy and punky kind of hard rock, power pop. . This is what it should be like, fun! '80s and '90s had it, too, but a lot of it became kind of commercialized and too cheesy. Other '70s glam bands would like early Queen, some early David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust) , Slade, Quiet Riot, New York Dolls, some Cheap Trick, Mott The Hopple, Budgie, maybe some early KISS, some Alice Cooper, some early Roxy Music, Gary Glitter Band, T-Rex, etc. For some modern 2000s glam bands. See Steel Panther, The Darkness, Jet, Buckcherry, Beautiful Creatures, and others. Check them out, too.

I remember this song coming out in the mid-70s. I also remember "Fox on the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" being constantly played 1n 1981 at Chanute AFB. When you have some time, watch the band's video. They had bizarre attire for the era, especially "Ballroom Blitz". I wish the band could have stayed together and produced some more hits. The hit is about groupies.

Nice band and song. 🎶 Early glam/hair metal '70s). Pop-metal. Bands like Slade and NY Dolls. Kind of power pop/pop-punk like Cheap Trick and The Romantics. Bands like them influenced others later on.

It's so hilarious to see the snowflakes running around these days thinking they're special for changing their pronouns etc ever 15 mins. Sweet (and many other bands of the time) were 'fluid' nearly FIFTY YEARS AGO, and nobody really cared too much as long as the music was kicking ass. Ah well, as they say everything old is new again.

Little Willy was about a cat that used to hang out where they practiced, Fox on the run was about a groupie, and Ballroom Blitz was about a show they did, that turned into a brawl during the show. at least according to old interviews I read somewhere.

Yes!!!. Great. This was one the very first British Glam Rock bands from the early 70's and this tune was relased in 1973. There is just one member left, the guitarrist and band leader Andy Scott. Lead singer, Brian Conolly, Bass guitar, Steve Priest and the drummer, one of the most underrated player, Mick Tucker. They`ve a live performance song, in the web, at the Rainbow theatre in London, December 1973, playing the powerfull "Hell Raiser". So don`t miss this one to catch the amazing live performing from this band. Take care, thanks for react to this timeless classic.

"Fox on the Run" is a song by the British band Sweet, first recorded in 1974. It was the first Sweet single written by the band, rather than producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and was their 14th single overall. The song became the best charting single in Australia in 1975, with six weeks at number one. Two versions were recorded by Sweet. The original version was produced by Mike Chapman in association with Nicky Chinn on the European version of the 1974 album Desolation Boulevard. Sweet also recorded and produced a more pop-oriented version as a 7" single in 1975, which is the more familiar version of the song. The 1975 single version was included on the Capitol Records version of Desolation Boulevard. The song's inclusion in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 led to the song reaching number one on the iTunes Rock Chart in late 2016. "Fox" being slang for an attractive woman, the lyrics are apparently about one of the band's groupies;[7] Bomp! called the song "a definitive hard-rock bubblegum record" and "one of the last glitter classics"
