@@TucBroder- Ballroom Blitz was one of those songs that the very first time you heard it you would go WOW. Ballroom Blitz was way ahead of its time and so were the Sweet. They were maybe too ahead of their time and they did not get the recognition they deserved in America. I heard that they had kind of bad management over in England and they were not promoted as well as they should have been even over in England where they were from. The managers rob them blind too because the guys in the band were so young and not very good businessmen but everyone of them were great musicians and really good-looking too.

This song was released in March, 1975, when I was a senior in high school. Seventeen years old, mired in puberty, running on the varsity track team as a long distance runner. 8 tracks, 33 1/3 albums, and 45 singles. Cruisin' in a 2 door 1968 Ford Galaxie 500, navy blue, 351 engine, and I worked after school for a veterinarian. I first heard Sweet back in 1972 when their biggest hit in the U.S., "Little Willy" caught my attention on WOWO out of Fort Wayne. Glam Rockers to the end, Sweet's album "Desolation Boulevard" was first released in Great Britain, but they actually went into the recording studio and reworked "Fox on the Run" and the album to a more pop oriented song style directed at the American market. This song climbed to #5 on the hit list. "Little Willy" landed at #3. I still own Sweet's compact discs and they'll always be that guilty pleasure from back in the day. Rock On! Far Out, Man! Ohhh....she's a fox!

Sold the 62 for $75 just before I left. Liked Bolan and T-rex more, but I had Desolation Blvd too. Had a 4 track player in the Falcon but about the best tape I had was "Alice's Restaurant"...

Finally one of these reaction channels does Sweet. I began listening to them when I was about 5 in the mid-70's. Brian Connoly with Lead Vocals, Andy Scott(Guitar), Steve Priest(Bass) also provided great vocals. And Mick Tucker is one of the best drummers one will ever hear. Here's some other great tunes from Sweet-Action, Lies In Your Eyes, Lady Starlight, No You Don't, Madusa, Burn On The Flame. Just to name a few.

There was a jukebox in the teen center in my small town growing up that had very few songs on it and this was one of them. It got played over and over and over. It spilled out onto the street on Saturday night where the cars were doing the loop around main street (we are talking small town, small loop). Anyway, I have good memories of it. Brian Connolly had such a beautiful voice. If you want to hear them do more harmonies on more of an acoustic song you need to listen to You're Not Wrong for Loving Me or some of the really really early stuff like Slow Motion (The Sweet). They were also part of glam rock and wore some pretty interesting costumes with Ballroom Blitz, Wig Wam Bam, etc. Besides this song, I really like Love is Like Oxygen and The Sixteens. Mick Tucker is also an underrated drummer. I hope you listen to more of them.

Sweet started off writing novelty type songs and slowly merged into an outstanding pop/rock group. I think I read that Queen was inspired by there harmonies.

At their time, they were deemed as a bubblegum band. However their abilities on their instruments were never questioned. At one early point in their career, future Deep Purple Ian Gillan replaced Brian Connolly in a band called Wainwright's Gentlemen. That band also featured another future Sweet member, the drummer Mick Tucker. He and Connolly formed a band Sweetshop.
