Check out "Hellraiser" or "Blockbuster", if you want to hear The Sweet at their best. Pete Townsend of The Who wanted them to support them, but Brian was very badly beaten up in an unprovoked attack at a pub in Staines in 1974. His vocal cords were damaged, and it sent him down the road of alcoholism. Their live set "At The Rainbow, December 1973" is a revelation. What a great live band. The Sweet started off as a bubblegum pop group - notice the four different hair colors for the choice of the female fans - but they dropped their original production team and songwriters, then started doing their own material and developed into a very respectable hard rock outfit with tasty licks and still getting the hits. Try just about anything from the album "Give Us A Wink" for some really slick production values and fine playing.

Their 'break-out' hit was "Funny Funny". Top three in the U.K., in contention at the time with "Brown Sugar" (Rolling Stones, nr two) and "Hot Love" (T-Rex, nr one). As time progressed, their singles became more hard rock. "Action" was actually one of their last successful releases. Only "Lost Angels", "The Lies In Your Eyes" and "Love Is Like Oxygen" came after that if I remember correctly. Only Slade had more top ten hits than Sweet in the seventies.

I remember when this was a hit. I thought - cute one hit wonder. Wrong! Sweet had 13 top 20 hits in the 70's. And one of them - Ballroom Blitz - would go on to have another life in the movie Wayne's World. Their album Desolation Boulevard became the prototype for virtually every hair metal band of the 80's (watch their video for Fox on the Run - their hair, clothing, twirling of the drums sticks were all copied by hair metal bands). They were produced by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, the latter of the two would go on to produce most of Blondie's albums.

It was the 70's. Everyone got along. No one cared what color anyone else was. Or what anyone was wearing. All we cared about was the music !!! You could have been blue with orange polka dots, we didn't care. We all treated each other with respect and got along. People in 2020 should take lessons from the 70's. And we had GREAT MUSIC. Thank you for bringing back more fun memories. Stay healthy

When me and my wife first got together we went to my buddy's used record store and I bought a Sweet album that had "Little Willy" on it. When I got home and played the song, she was like 'I know this song but I don't know where from...' fast forward a few years later, when her mom passed her half brother, a nice guy but a badass ex-con and outlaw biker (who was a dead ringer for the actor Sam Elliott cam to visit and meet. Anyway, we hung around the apartment a listened to some records, and I put on 'Little Willy' and he started grooving to it. My wife said 'You like this song?' He said ' I liked it but you loved, when you were little you made me play it over and over again...' ...so great song great story

Jamel, I noticed you haven’t done much David Bowie. Maybe try some of his glam stuff. Rebel Rebel maybe? Also you haven’t done any Elton John. He was on the edge of glam. Pinball Wizard from the Tommy movie soundtrack is a really great song I think you’d enjoy.

Sweet entered the music scene when huge bands like Zeppelin we're flying around on Lear jets making millions, sweet shows up just having fun recording 3 minute hit songs and the people loved them for it. Great times!
