I have discovered that the trick to keeping the moisture that gets generated when you have a lid on and ends up collecting on the underside of the lid and dripping into the pot is to use a splash guard instead of a lid. That way the steam can escape while the kernels don’t pop out of the pot.

Palmyra palm sugar, an ideal sweetener for this recipe, is unrefined and derived from flower sap. Hand-harvested at 80 feet above the ground, it undergoes minimal processing in small batches, exuding a delightful natural caramel fragrance.

I believe you can appreciate this …. My mother would always render the lard when we would harvest a pig. My dad insisted on using a tablespoon of lard as the fat when making his stove top popcorn. Yes it had an usual flavor, but he loved it. thank you for stirring a lovely memory. 🧡🍿🤎

I love popcorn! However after cracking a back tooth on a kernel that cost me a tooth removal I now basically sieve the unpopped kernels out of the bowl and am very cautious about eating one of my favorite snacks. This looks like a delicious treat.

My mom always shook the bowl of popcorn carefully removing the popped kernels leaving the unpopped in the bottom to throw away before adding the caramel.

It’s wild that you would share this recipe- over the weekend I was going through my moms recipe box (she passed away last fall) and found a recipe for caramel corn popcorn and popcorn crunch (butter, honey, nuts & popcorn) I planned to try both this fall and now I am even more inspired to!

Stirring is completely unnecessary in cooking stovetop popcorn. I grew up with the stir and shake method but discovered as an adult that it was not needed. It pops perfect every time!

I will try your recipe. Looks scrumptious. I make popcorn in pans from 3 qt - Dutch oven size, depending on how much I want. But I never stir it. Just pour oil to generously cover the bottom of the pan, add popcorn to cover the bottom in a single layer, and slap on the lid. Turn on the heat and when the popping starts begin moving the pan back and forth on the burner. Easy peasy!

Loved the baking tip. I didn't know that. I learned a great tip to make perfect popcorn. After you pour the oil drop 3 kernels and let the oil heat up. When the 3 kernels pop you are good to go. The oil is in a perfect temperture. It will pop every single kernel and you don't need to stir It. Just leave them there on low heat. When they start to not pop as fast I Just raise the pot a little bit with ny hands to avoid burning and It pops the last few ones.

This looks so good! Can't really to try it out. When my mom made caramel corn, she'd pour the caramel over the popcorn in a new paper bag (she'd grab an extra from the grocery store but leave it empty to keep it clean) and coat the popcorn by folding the top of the bag over and shaking it. It coats evenly and when you're done you can throw away the bag. :)

Oh I’m so excited for this! I have grown up with my mom making amazing caramel corn as her speciality, but it calls for Karo syrup. I haven’t brought myself to try a natural version yet, because I was afraid to be disappointed. But I’m ready to try! I’ve missed it ❤️
