Yes even in it's first issue it was darker like the Swamp thing one. But in further comics of him the tone became lighter because it is also about the character and environment about him and it's like the most DC thing to do. DC always make individual stories with an individual character specification and they did it same to Sweet tooth and this is going to be nice pace of change actually.
