Sweet Willie is also a very capable jazz as well as classical trumpet soloist, and jazz vocalist as well.
The name of this spiritual is "Just A Little While To Stay Here" which is from his album entitled, "Praise From The Woodshed" | A Dedication To Lives Lost Due To Covid-19 in which Sweet Willie performs 15 traditional Afro-American spirituals on trumpet and fluegelhorn.
On this recording, Sweet Willie utilizes a Schilke X4 model trumpet paired with a Bach 3 1/2 C mouthpiece with a D cup. The late, great Dave Hay from Grand Rapids, Michigan provided
the marvelous piano accompaniment. Remarkably, all 15 tracks of this recording were performed 'straight through' on one take.
When Sweet Willie was a little boy growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, "Just A Little While To Stay Here" was one of all of many Afro-American spirituals that were sung to Sweet Willie by his Grandmother on a regular basis.
