I found that cooking it in a slow cooker works wonders. In fact, that’s my method of cooking my oblayo. It makes it more tender and creamier . It just takes longer😬🤦🏽‍♀️.So if I want to eat it in the morning I start the previous night and set it for about 8 or 10hours. Thanks Sweet Adjeley😘.

Like my grandma of blessed memory explained, oblaayo came about because of the purity of the corn used in the preparation. There was no stain on it and they equated it to a stainless young lady. Who wants to know the history of konmi (kenkey). The original name is Otin from which we get otinshinu (kenkey water)

Dede Tetteh Back in the days when Britannia ruled the waves, Governor Christiansborg got tired of looking at the pretty Ga ladies pounding corn to make cornmeal for Kenkey. He ordered a ship load of the milled corn from Britain to be used in the preparation. When mothers sent their kids out to buy kenkey, they asked if it was made from Otin or Cornmeal. We then started butchering the word corn meal and it became konmi. “Kon” is the derivative from corn and “nmi” is the derivative from meal. Who here on this platform has taken a DNA ancestry test. I took one back in 2018, and found out I was 64% Togolese and 32% Ghanaian and 3% Caribbean. Someone in my family has been hiding secrets. 🤣🤣🤣
