Thankyou. Why did u not brush down yr 1st rolag batch, but did on the 2nd batch? I'm trying to spin my rolags, from short staple, but the wool breaks apart while dpu ninng onto the bobbin. I have an indian head spinner, non-electric.

For sure... with each set of rolags I've been experimenting with different techniques... I brushed down a previous batch of rolags and ended up with too much fibre packed into the board and I had trouble removing it from the board. So I decided to make the rolags a lot "lighter" and airier with less fibre and less packing down. I'm also experimenting with brushing very lightly vs very aggressively :) If you have a batch of short-stapled rolags, you might want to try spinning them with a supported spindle. It will be much easier on your fibre and less likely to break. An Indian head spinner can be very powerful and might just pull that fibre right out of your hands.

So does using a hand card simply produce smaller rolags? I wonder how they spin up vs the bigger rolags from blending boards.
