Thanks for all those infos. It's really hard to find proper collected info online about this topic. I do want to say though, that I think the point of the Swiss rule on animal cruelty was slightly misunderstood: The rules is against people docking, cropping, removing the dew claws or the vocal cords. I live in Switzerland and it's absolutely no issue castrating your pet here. For cats it's even encouraged. They do however discourage castrating your dog before 6 months. We recently went through this entire topic with our own Chihuahua.

Fentress County TN….all volunteer shelter… no county run humane society… please come save these dogs. Busting at the seems!!! Completely overwhelmed with dogs.

Thank you for sharing. I will look them up. I have been trying to work with my local shelter to help get some of their chihuahuas adopted but have not been successful in them wanting my help 🤷‍♀️ they won’t respond to my emails even though I went through their training and did the background check. I’m pretty sure they figured out during the background check that I am a breeder and so they automatically assume I have bad intentions. Meanwhile orphaned sweetie pies are sitting in crates with no one to love ☹️

I would like to spay my future female chihuahua cuz I need her as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) and if by any chance she gets pregnant, I wouldn't need her to get her attention on her puppies and then me. I need her full attention. Plus, I might not want to sell the puppies cuz.... cute animals are my weakness.

Leslie Rodriguez you’re so welcome. What did your vet recommend? I think a lot of the vets in the US have been trained to push for spay and neuter ASAP so I’m always happy to hear when a vet is a little more open minded and cautious with these tinies!

Sweetie Pie Pets I was told this past Monday that it would be best to wait 6-7months before he starts bad habits. Pretty similar to what you recommend. My baby chihuahua is only 9 weeks but since I do want him inside I don’t want him marking my house up lol. Love your videos 😊

My vet said that my little "Miso" can be spayed around a year old, and she is only 7 months old at the moment. I understand that it is important to spay for medical reasons, but I am really so scared for her. She is so tiny, and I will be heartbroken if something happened to her, because of a decision I made.

Grace van Eeden I absolutely understand and agree with your fears. The newer research actually shows getting them spayed contributes to health problems rather than the other way around. If your vet says she needs to be spayed to PREVENT health issues then possibly your vet hasn’t kept up with the newer research. I do think a lot of the vets are pressured to convince people to get their dogs spayed and neutered when in fact the research does not necessarily support that stance. But getting them fixed does prevent them from those wandering and “marking” urges so I do understand wanting to get her spayed. I’m so glad your vet is recommending to wait until at least a year old 🙏🏻 I totally agree with that and this is a good example of following the advice of your trusted Veterinarian. 😊 Thanks so much for your comment. Hello, it’s not too late to get her spayed. I would go ahead and do the procedure before she gets much older. Each heat increases her risk of contracting Pyometra which is an infection in the uterus. It’s a deadly infection and requires immediate emergency spay. It’s just safer to get ahead of that possibility and get her spayed under the best circumstances! I had my little female white chi spayed at 8 months old by the best local vet I could find (and cost me $aud 700). No problems at all but after 3 months now she still occasionally tries to hump my leg, lol! She is a happy little girl but still has problems finding/using finding the poop and pee-pads. I totally agree with you. I don't think it should be mandatory either. Having said that, I'm going to have Dempsey neutered in the next couple of months because he is proving to be a sociable wee guy with other dogs and I want him to enjoy being around them without looking to mate. I owned a mongrel many years ago who was obsessed with looking for females and he ran away, escaped at every opportunity, and just wanted to be off all the time. I guess his testosterone levels were ruling his life! Poor Benji. 😕 Looking forward to seeing your merch! Maybe Dempsey won't have to wear a sock when we go out. 😂 💖

Trish Traynor that’s an excellent point which I totally should have brought up in the video. The boys testosterone can definitely cause some sneaky, naughty behaviors. If I were to pick one to get fixed and one night, I would definitely get the boy fixed and leave the girl intact. Thanks for sharing. Iris CC I recommend you let your female go through puberty before getting her fixed. I like to wait until they’re at least 1 year old before spaying. For boys a little younger. Maybe 7 -8 months old before neutering.

So my chi was born July 5 2020. He is scheduled to be neutered in March making him 8 months. I have had several male dogs {allshelties} over the years but never experienced the marking of territory. This chi is otherwise house broken but has begun marking constantly. It is very frustrating. Will this stop after he is neutered? I hope so. I have now had to restrict him back to one room which I hate to do. I also have another younger male {sheltie) which I am trying to house train. Anything I should or could be doing?

I know what you mean, The marking can be very frustrating. That’s why I typically recommend getting a male fixed a little younger than females. The females will end up marking as well but typically they don’t start that habit until they’re a little older. Just try to be patient with him and hopefully once he’s fixed, he’ll be able to calm the marking urge. 🙏🏻❤️

I don’t know if you’ve had Chihuahuas before but they will yap constantly if not trained not to bark my boy is pomchi and he yaps constantly but I’m working with him I already have trained him not to react to other dogs with barking but Chihuahuas are very loving pups and extremely alert to practically everything around them they’re also very loyal dogs too

I waited till my girls where 1.5 and my x-wife made my two friends come to keep me calm. Because when my dog had puppies I lost my shit. I can not handle my animal to be in pain.i just crazy but I do like to waite on all dogs till 1 if not older ! So I was told this backwards. And you said cut the Male so calm it hurts me to think of it.

And you’re right even about getting the males fixed, it’s so sad how they actually remove their testicles. I heard recently there are more vets doing vasectomies on dogs the way human men become sterilized. That seems so much more human to me. I think it’s sad to cut off their body part. 😥

Hi we have had 3yorkies over the years and our first one wasn't speyed and had lumps on her boobies..the vet said if she was speyed she probably wouldn't have had the lumps. So we did have our 2 speyed. Our little chihuahua Tia won't be speyed as we would like her to have a litter in the future...so...what age is best to have a litter? Love your videos. If her first heat was at an early age, you may need to wait until her 3rd heat before letting her have a litter. 1.5 to 2 years old is a good age for a sweetie pie to be a mama. No, 3 months old is still a baby. Females need to wait until about a year and a half before they can breed and males might be ready by 10 months to a year.
