I have an mbox pro 3 with spdif input. does this mean I can hook the asp880 up through spdif and use all 8 channels of the 880 plus the preamps of the mbox simultaneously?

+kennethhunterlk5 S/PDIF can carry two channels of digital audio, so you could add an additional two preamps to your mBox Pro 3 using the ASP880.

I spent hours trying to convince my friend to buy this interface over the Rme Fireface trying to explain to him this has the best technology in it he just can't get over the price factor he thinks just because an amp cost $4,000 it's going to sound better when it's using older chips

RME has the best and most stable audio drivers on the market. This fact alone makes it 100 times much more better than the audient interface. So your friend did the right thing.

The Audient 880 isn't really a computer interface, it's a front end for an interface. If you have this in front of an RME PCIe card that would be a great setup. Very low latency for things like amp sims and soft synths, and pretty good mic-pres and converters from the 880 feeding into the RME

Who said that the ASP 880 is an interface??? It is just a microphone preamp with a build in AD converter.
