OMG! Electro drums! I have the same sounding drums on my TD-8! I guess Roland likes to recycle a lot of their sound samples... even though the build quality is top notch, the sound quality is still not quite there, I tried the TD-50 at a music store, and was blown away with the response of the USB snare and hi hat, but the sounds are still their signature synthetic drums, they're not bad if you use them for practice or in a venue, but for recording, I wouldn't use them, Alesis on the other hand, has better drum samples, tried their strike pro SE, and it was far better sound wise
@doublestrokeroll2 жыл бұрын
The problem is Roland won't commit to huge memory storage and deeply layered samples. They do record real drums but they rely on digital trickery to "fill in the blanks" between the samples they've actually recorded. That tech is definitely getting better and better...this sounds WAY better than my TD9 for example. But it still doesn't quite measure up. This happens in the sample world to. Play on EZ drummer and even Superior drummer samples and then compare them to Platinum Samples packs (on the BFD system) who use up to 256 velocity layers (actual recorded sounds) and you'll hear a difference there too. EZ drummer/Superior also use a scaling system. Granted theirs is amazing compared to the module sound and still very well sampled....but nothing really compares to just laying down sheer numbers of sample variety in the studio in my opinion. Even in the Platinum samples packs you can tell a difference between the drums that have more layers.

@skirwan782 жыл бұрын
90% of the time organic drum sets sound like trash that's why lol. Have you ever seen the amount of compression, mic adjustments, eqing, mic placement, tuning, and bus eq/comp that goes into an acoustic set? Getting acoustic drums to sound good is a skill set in its own right that takes years to master. Much easier to just get SD3 or some other software and skip the pain in the ass tuning acoustics is. You're never going to record or play acoustics raw unless you're playing a coffee shop or grungy bar. And from live shows it's all too apparent that most drummers can't tune their drums to save their lives.
@MrHabSpass2 жыл бұрын
Have in mind, that all electronic drum kits are recording ready. That means the sounds are gated, compressed and optimal miked. When you play your kit, it is the natural sound without mikes and treated as in a recording studio. To understand it better, play your electronic kit to a song you like. Record both together and listen to it afterwards. You recognize now that the electronic kit sounds perfect because all studio work has been done when sampling sounds.
@mattdrewdrums2 жыл бұрын
@@MrHabSpass Well it makes way more sense to offer an organic drum sound, so people can modify it in post however they please. Plus, idk what Roland is doing to the samples, but whatever it is, it sounds like garbage. A company like EF Note has the right idea. Their sounds are all very organic sounding. If they could step up the sample quality and round-robbin bs, they'd lead the industry.

They do have them, check out the Roland Cloud for extra kits or VExpressions Ltd. for packs. Why would anyone buy this when supposedly just months away DWe is about to next level the e drum industry. And ironically Roland owns DW drums

Considering this over the Strata Prime as I can get one for less than £100 more. What accessories would people recommended for this?

Same crappy Roland drum sounds. If i bought this kit the first thing i would have to do is figure out how to get some external realistic sounds hooked up to the kit. I wish i knew what Rolands problem Is in making a realistic sounding electronic drumset. How long does Roland have to make electronic drums before they can do what should be the obvious..

I have a TD 30. Will my current stuff work with the new TD-27KV module? Or am I screwed?
@dsummerssummers152 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely a nice kit but I don’t have $3500 to spend on a drum kit unfortunately. As a first time “drummer” and getting my first kit, I’m going with the cheap option of the Simmons Titan 50!
@mikebeste94082 жыл бұрын
Agreed, this is not a first kit for drummers ...and realistically it just starts at $3500. I bought a TD-27 G1 2 years ago and I have well over $10k invested in it (lots of expansion pads, top of the line hardware and lots of amps) ...and now I need the VH-14's to true up to a G2 (at least I am convinced I need them). Regardless of all that spending, I do believe I made a good choice with the model. The TD-50's started much higher and model 50 & 27 are realistically where ALL the R&D is being dumped in to at Roland this year (or 90% of it). Get a year or two in to a basic mesh head E-kit ...if drumming sticks to your brain, consider going a little big with model 27 so you don't outgrow it, and/or the supported technologies. I had been looking at Roland kits for a over decade (observing with very little change to the platforms less the highest level). I saw the TD-27 come out. I knew early on that this one was a game changer and pressed the buy button, with very little hesitation. No regrets. If you were not aware, Guitar Center owns Simmons these days. Good luck on your journey.

issues i have with these kits is the bass drum .Its small moves a lot and doesn't last if you play a lot of DB .They need to a bigger not so expensive larger more stable version. other than that they are great

I have the same kick pad and though it is small, I would prefer a bigger pad, I have no issues with it moving or durability on my side. I’ve pounded double bass into that thing for hours on end and it’s still going.

@@Tdrums8 I don’t doubt that you needed to have it repaired but that is simply not my experience with this kick pad or any other kick pad from Roland that I have owned. I’ve owned the, KD-120, KT-10, KD-8, KD-9, KD-10, KD-A22, KD-200 and have never had any issues with them. The only Roland parts that have ever broken down on my end are CY-6 and CY-5 cymbal pads. I currently have the 507 using the KD-200 as my home kit and a KD-10 on my travelling kit which is a mashup of different parts on a TD-15 module.

@@Tdrums8 I've had 3 roland kicks - KD8, KD10, and the KD140. - The 140 is what your'e looking for if you want professional quality. still I've never had to repair any of my other KD8/10 kicks, so maybe you need to adjust your pedal and sensitivity? I've got hundreds hours on each and they still work fine. As for moving around, nothing a 50lb kettle bell can't fix.

Can you set multiple instruments to the same pad? Ex.) I have a tom sound I like but want the rim to function as a marimba or a splash instead of just having the standard tom rim.
@sweetwater2 жыл бұрын
Hello, sheepcolin! You absolutely can do this on the TD27 kit. For those triggers that have multiple zones (for example, snare head and rim or ride cymbal bell and bow), you can assign tones to those zones completely independently. All of this is done within the module itself. Thanks for the interest! Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com

@@AerisVelivolus honestly the module is not what I expected as far as its interface and mapping. 5 of the kits may be useful sound wise, and my ride (which I’m on my second one) bell never triggers consistently and that’s just the start of it

I bought generation 1 a year ago. I’m so glad I was able to download the software to 2.0 . Roland is awesome, now if I can only get my SPDSX PRO I’d be super happy. But unfortunately they are all on back order.
@MoboMata2 жыл бұрын
Why would you need an SPD SX Pro (for another $1000) when you have a full Roland kit? You can always add pads. Even other brand/cheaper pads work with the Roland module. And you can use whatever samples you want with the module, so what’s the benefit?

own the kit, what you're hearing in this demo is what it sounds like straight out to phones. there's not eq/comp in this that I can tell. Still that's pretty easy to add either onboard or through a mixer/daw if you wanted.

Can't stand a kit where you don't get everything you need or what is shown. Why do the companies that make these do this?
@kursesandkarma32242 жыл бұрын
ROLAND has to do a better job on the appearance factor of their E.D.'s. Why do we have to see the hardware mount in front of each tom? The rack should be redesigned so the drum itself is only showing, just like a traditional kit. When will there be optional patterns & colors available to customize your own look. I hate the wires being exposed to the cymbals and drums. Also, for each 1/4" cord to have to be plugged individually into the back of the module is too tedious. There should be a port they go into so you can pull all out at once. They have to do better, after all, they're the best E.D. out there IMO. I'm not bitching here, it's just time to do some cleanup. I play the TD-20 at gigs constantly and the breakdown setup could be better expedited.
