F1 is basically a drama show for men, when the season is good at least and every team principal is slinging mud at the other one for "cheating". But this season is goated istg

16:15 my parents and I sat at turn 6 right under the big texas flag all weekend (best GA spot other than t1 imo, seeing the cars coming off the turn 1 hill and then zip flat out through the s's is awesome - plus easy access to water, food, and bathrooms) and saw that Porsche flip right in front of our eyes. it was absolutely insane

my thoughts: 1) security was way too lax. if the metal detector goes off, they should actually inspect the bag! mine went off (because of my water bottle i think) and all they did was peer inside my bag.... like bruh, inspect INSIDE the bag?? 2) exiting parking lot T parking was a MESS considering the price 3) y'all's cowboy boots were really cute but i cannot imagine walking around cota all day in boots my god 😭 4) more signs!!! for where to enter for track invasion, for where water is, for where the closest bathrooms are, etc

How much was the parking? My husband and I were lucky to get it for free(I still don’t know why the lady was so generous). But, my God… getting out of the parking lot was a hot mess. Took us almost three hours to get out on Friday
@mh0967
@mh0967 3 ай бұрын
@@natasama1069 best and most economical way to get parking for cota is to get parking at one of the smaller non cota lots scattered around the track. way cheaper and usually pretty easy to get. we went friday back in 2022 and were able to get parking same day at one of the properties that offers parking just like an extra 3 minute walk from behind lot T. Way faster to leave too

I’ve went to F1 multiple times. The oil company I worked for would reserve boxes, it was always neat watching it w/ a buffet and shaded seats. Went once as general admission and the traffic was so bad coming backroads from the airport that my group eventually got out and walked to COTA lmao. Good times, always a headache for locals because of the crowds right after ACL

it’s so interesting to hear how people’s experiences differ kind of where they were on track. i did GA with my dad totally unprepared, and we had a lovely time. friday, we camped out for the AMEX tower takeover and managed to spend the entirety of free practice up there for free. we did lots of activations before settling down in the esses for SQ. I felt like the bathroom situation at the esses was markedly worse than other areas. saturday, we also left after the sprint. we were sitting at turn 11, which had great track views and virtually no lines for good food/drink or bathrooms, but it was unbearably hot with the sun beating down, despite only being 84 degrees. i was shocked how sick i felt since i grew up in texas and am used to triple digit temps. sunday, we camped out all day at turn 2. it was a pretty good spot for viewing, and the porta potties in the back stayed spotless all day and retained their toilet paper stash. my biggest takeaway from the race is that you need to either have an AMEX card or go with someone who has one. the amount of free perks I got by just tapping my card was incredible

I went in 2019 and parked on farmland nearby. They gave us a tip to turn left when leaving the track instead of right (the main exit way). Turned an hour of leaving traffic to no traffic at all. Idk if stuff has moved since 2019, but if the layout is still the same. Do that when leaving.

I went this year because my friend had an extra 3 day GA pass. I got so lucky cause her in laws camp there in an RV. So we got to park there and use the bathrooms there etc. I’m not really an F1 girly but it def got me way more interested in it. I’ve been to COTA many times for concerts and Austin Cars and Coffee is hosted there too every month. My conclusion is it’s such a cash grab. Wayyyy overpriced for everything. But I am happy we were able to bring in sealed water bottles, they were not checking bags so I was bringing beer in too. I feel bad for the people that didn’t have a shaded spot to go rest at in between races. I think RV camping there and getting GA is the best way to do it honestly. You should look into that next year, there’s people in the area that rent theirs out :)

The only food or beverage that's allowed to be brought inside the grounds according to COTA's website is a single bottle of sealed water of 20 ounces or less. Anyone that brought in snacks or other beverages was technically breaking the rules. Just don't want people to be shocked in the future if their stuff is taken on the way in or they're told to put it in their car before entering.

I went to Cota in 2022 with main grandstand tickets right on the starting line. The concessions were decent with your typical burgers and hotdogs but there weren't any lines because only main grandstand ticket holders were allowed to use the concession stands. Also the seats were in front of the $10k "VIP booths" which had large umbrellas that shaded the bleachers in front where i was seated for most of the day. Also for the track invasion in the main grandstand you can climb down from the front row and climb between the fencing and armco barrier for the track invasion and get access to the track from anywhere along the main grandstand since there isn't any security covering that area. You won't have to wait behind a crowd to get onto the track as long as you are willing to drop down like 3-4 feet from the grandstand.

I went to COTA in September for WEC, in that series it’s open seating and you can go to whatever grandstand and viewing spot you want as long as it isn’t already filled. Ive only been to Daytona prior, and as you said it was REEEAALLLY big but I also in general struggled to navigate it and didnt find the maps very helpful, certainly not in comparison to Daytona. I met and befriended some strangers from the internet and we booled around the track for the 3 days WEC was in town, the heat was BRUTAL. We almost got heatstroke on Saturday but the velocity lounge on the pit straight was open with air conditioning and that let us survive the rest of the day. I dunno if that’s open to GA on the F1 weekend but it’s definitely something you should look into if you’re worried about the heat next time. I’m hoping to get to a gp at some point but its just wayyy out of budget right now, sportcars/endurance is all I can afford at the moment lol

You’re correct - australia did get in trouble not once but twice…one of the times it was pretty scary cos there is an image of i think Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas car entering the pits with people at the entrance. They stopped it in 2023 because of that track invasion. I’ve also been to Barcelona, Suzuka, Malaysia and Singapore and 3/4 I’ve been on the track…the singapore one i have been twice and the second time was this year - i ran the entire straight to get to the podium…almost died from the heat but totally worth it to see lando get the trophy 😊

Went to COTA for the USGP 2021. Very similar to your experience: fun, but long lines and vendors run out of stuff. They seem to try to cut it really fine on supply, so if it's a few degrees hotter than expected, it becomes impossible to find water, for example. We had that issue on the Sunday - after the halfway point of the race, we couldn't find water anywhere inside. My now-wife is the real MVP - she checked the tiny gas station across from the bus stand for the remote parking lot and it had water and Gatorade. Speaking of that bus, we waited for 3.5 hours for a bus to appear to take us out to the remote lot. Many people gave up and walked. It wasn't great. Fun time and glad we went, but it cemented my opinion where we attend smaller motorsports and watch F1 on TV.

I saw Matt & Tommy from P1 (F1 Podcast/youtube show) saying that they paid like $500 each for seats with no commentary or interview audio, even the National Anthem was silent and the Commentary was just the closed captions on the big screen (which blocked a lot of the screen). F1 is growing so much these past few years, I just wish they could guarantee certain experiences for fans that are getting rinsed for their tickets. They're more obsessed about setting crowd records than actually providing an experience.

I’ve so far only been to Monaco GP this year and am going to Barcelona next year through Off to the Races, which is a tour operator that does travel packages around F1 GPs aimed at women. My screen situation in Monaco was not good as I only had one near me in my grandstand, but I could barely see it. The speaker system there also wasn’t good, so I was getting commentary on other things happening in the race from a groupchat. I also happened to be in a grandstand with a lot of Checo fans and there was a yacht in front of it that was repping hard for Mexico and Checo as well. I even got to see Checo walk in front of my grandstand as he was going to be tended by the medics after his crash. I’d like to go to Mexico and COTA in the future for North American F1 races, as well as Zandvoort and Singapore for overseas ones.

I've been to COTA for the USGP back in 2016, I went just to go see Taylor Swift perform, and wow was it packed like crazy. When they opened the gates for General Admission tickets everyone RAN, I some how made it to GA barricade, Taylor had the stage split up the crowd into VIP (with nothing but handpicked fans from the lines of people waiting for GA or online that her team saw going and some people that paid thousands of dollars). This was her only show of 2016, it was such a cool experience, the crowd was insane and I paid $150 for a ticket and I bought them a week before the show too.

I was waiting for this because I have to pass COTA to go home from my airport job, so not only do I see all the promo but I have to deal with the horiffic traffic from F1. Their reps were giving away redbull at the airport ironically, and I got to see the winning team when they arrived to check in for their departure flight. Didn't know it was them until the airline staff told me, and you could see heads turning (plus a group of girls asked for a picture).

Maybe they’ve improved things, but I went in 2021 and Ubered to the track on Friday but *could not* get an Uber to come get me from the track. I had 4 or 5 cancel once they saw how bad the traffic was. I ended up walking a mile or so away from the track before getting someone to finally accept the ride. I went to Singapore this year, but unlike other years (so yes I would, and have, do[ne] it again), I stuck to my grandstand... Mainly because I took my mother who is no spring chicken anymore. (She girly pop go, for sure: the only reason I'm a motorhead myself, actually.) Similar complaint about the lack of food options and toilets, but our grandstand was on the marina near the Helix footbridge, so not on pit lane by any means. Pretty hot for sure, but at least the main event was in the evening, so you could leave for the track in the cooler part of the day. As for shuttles: Singapore has a good subway and it's extremely cheap. As for meeting drivers such as Liam L (who wasn't driving that weekend) and Bert M (who does drive, but just a bit slower than the F1 guys): we had a third party arranged luncheon on the Friday which was great and cool. There was some F1 Experience branding, but the tickets were not sold through F1 management.

F1 is the best and most expensive soap opera in the world. So much fun drama.
