You were in my old stomping grounds. My Aunt used to live in Clearwater about 4 miles from Honeymoon Island. You should go to Caladesi Island if you get a chance. Great shelling there too and the ferry is inside of the park. Caladesi Island is usually in the Top 10 beaches rating every year. It is absolutely beautiful.

Yes, I still see the turbans and pick up the really colorful ones. I have a big vase to show for them!😊 I'm pretty sure that was a spiny PC because of the edges. Great explanation of the cut-ribbed ark! I didn't know you found so many star shells!😊 Very happy to see my little piece of paradise highlighted, Sharmon! Thank you! Oh, I am so glad you finally got to go to Honeymoon Island!!! I absolutely loved it there. I unfortunately got there a little late in the afternoon because it was bad weather early in the day but I still found so many incredible shells. Tons of those chestnut turbans and the operculums to those. A lady told me that they were called “mermaid money” and then later in the day I got to give some chestnut turbans and mermaid money to some other vacation shellers who didn’t know what they were and were absolutely fascinated by them. Those two different shellers had no idea about what to even look for or what the shells in the area were to look for them, so I was really excited to share my knowledge and help them find some shells that were a little nicer than what they had found before which was mostly broken and worn stuff. I saw one of them later and she was absolutely tickled to show me her full shell bag. 😊Oh I just want to go back to Florida so much!!! I’m already planning to take a friend to Honeymoon Island when she and I both get some time and money to go. We want to go find some manatees also, so we have been looking into doing some manatee kayak tours. Honeymoon Island was definitely one of my favorite places that I visited, though. I loved how uncrowded it was and how natural and wild and beautiful it was. Plus it was hot when I was there and it was absolutely marvelous to take a little swim every little while to cool off between shelling and I sat in the tide pool by the jetty and found minis galore while staying cool and getting some shade from the jetty. I loved the green star shells, too, though most of the ones I found were in pretty rough shape. They were still super cool. I’m just so excited that you went and that you are sharing with your viewers because it’s just a fantastic place. And only $8 to go. What a bargain!!!

We went to Honeymoon Island and took the ferry to Caladesi Island yesterday (Sunday 3/12). This was the second time we have done that in about a month. On the ferry, we met the Mate and found out he was from the town I was born in (Meriden, CT). Small world. After viewing your video we decided to go back tomorrow and look around Honeymoon Island for the first time. On Caladesi we found a great many dead fish due to Red Tide but also found a lot of shells- long spined star shells which my husband refer to as UFOs, turbines, a few sea stars, and even a banded tulip which I know are not rare however despite all the shelling we do, we have found only one in the wild previous to yesterday. 150 miles is a long way to drive -so glad it was worth it for you!

That was a fun trip!!! Thanks for taking us along! I have questions: 1. Do you wear your camera on your head as you search? Or do you have your phone/camera in your right hand? 2. How does your back handle all this shelling? Do you wear knee pads and kneel on the ground? Are you just always hunched over? Do you sit in one spot and just shell around yourself and then pick another spot to sit? Just walking on the beach hurts my back! LOL

The beach there was pretty barren of shells but after a weather event and at the right time you can find them. Thank you.

I was 10 and now I'm past 60, so that was a long time ago. I wish we were neighbors so I could share. I have fox shells. They look alot like a horse conch in shape. I discovered Babylonias a few years back. I had never seen them before, so that was exciting. I read that the men who fish for them in the Philippines also eat them for lunch. Ugh !. Don't know if you like shells from the store or not. That's how I have to do.

Sponges where they sell watercolor paints. Is a baby's ear single like an abalone ? Or is it a bivalve ? Anyone ? I thought it has a thick rim (Hence the name)& no hinges. Long spined star shell, the fighting conch, the pear welck, the chestnut turbines wow, the true tulip was a very light color, the lighting welcks, the shells that are still hinged, the peice of the coral you found looks like it had stars on it. I live seeing the alive ocean animals are so very amazing at what the waters and mother nature creates. Thank you for the amazing trip to a new beach. Just beautiful. It relaxes and calms me down everytime. So thank you so very much.

Oh my Susan, what a problem to have !. I got a few shells as a kid. Had all of them in a popcorn can. ..They were stolen. My Mom loved them, but I kept reading about them after they were gone. My grandpa brought me back a pen shell once, and I remember all the ones that were taken. Each one like a familiar friend. .Found a few huge maybe Magpie Turbans ?. At a thrift store once.I just decorated my bedroom in beach theme. Guess I'm a bit nerdy, huh. Lol!

Hi Sharmon, You were in Chestnut Turbin heaven😅. Never seen so many of them before. How many did you eventually take off the island? I really love those Long Spined Star shells.😍 Of course I did Google them to see all the spines on the shells. They are stunning! With or without spines. Can't wait to see the rest of your adventure. Wish you have a wonderful week filled with joy and blessings. Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

Hi Ilona! I didn't count how many, but let's just say I was shelling like I was never going to see a chestnut turban again 🤣 It was so fun to see a new beach and see different treasures. Especially when you know what you're looking for and you just have to find it. I've learned how to train my brain! And the drive wasn't all that bad. I'd love to spend more time up there to really explore the area. I hope you have a wonderful week full of happiness and love ❤️❤️❤️

Love love the chestnut turbins. So many different colors and patterns. When we go there we always collect them. Now have a huge tall vase filled with them. Also use them in different sea projects. Keep on shelling.

What fun. I will need to go check out Honeymoon Island next time I visit St. Petersburg. It is not too far away. I would love to find a long spine star shell.

I live in VA, with few shells. I usually go to OBX, where there are more shells, but nothing too interesting. Going on the west coast of Florida has been on my bucket list since I discovered your channel. And today, I got to go to Honeymoon Island state park! I had the best time and found so many shells. I was also able to identify my findings thanks to what I’ve learned on your channel, and even realized that at the nature center, some of the shelves on display got switched around and didn’t match their tags. Thank you so much for making these vlogs!

Look at you knowing your stuff in the nature center - that's awesome! What's even more awesome is you got to experience this fabulous coast and all our seashells. It's so fun to beachcomb over here! Thanks for watching my channel!
