Deb S, I am not expecting any females to step up and start providing food, although it is possible. It happened on a local nest I watch, where a new mate mid season would drop off food (did not feed). Providing food for eaglets is a breeding instinct(hormone driven), which is why we see males bring food gifts, and both bring food and feed.

(Sharon Shneyer, Philadelphia), I didn't even know that there were chats this season. They have always been below the cam stream in the past. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. I always check on the E's at night during bathroom breaks. I've been watching for all 11 seasons now, and I remember when the late Ozzie went missing and Harriet cried for 2 days because we all watched it on cam. It also seems from M15's behavior that he is concerned. I am also sick about it.

M15 know what he has to do, guard the nest tree/area and bring in food. The intruders make his job difficult, but we know he gives everything he has. 💜

Hadassah. There are always eagles around here, and the day Harriet left, plus the day before, there was a decrease in food on the nest. Watching H&M, IMO that was due to territory securing vs time spent foraging.

@@s.g.8010 . Without knowing the specific date/time, I cannot review a specific event. During nest building in particular, they do bump each other, accidentally hit each other with sticks, and/or wings. It also occasionally happens during incubation. I did not see any specific event where I thought it was something out of the ordinary. Harriet has appeared fine to me all season, including the last time we saw her on the cam, leaving the nest tree.

She wouldn't have abandoned her babies. Unfortunately that's life/nature and I don't see her coming back. According to a photographer that follows this eagle couple he last saw her chasing after 2 juvenile eagles. Sometimes they fight to the death to protect their nests. It could have also just been her age, life expediency for bald eagles in the wild is 15-20 years. Harriet was 20.

LVIOve. She would not leave her eaglets. Who is the photographer you speak of that has pictures of her chasing two juvies? That is the first I have heard that a photographer was here taking pictures when Harriet left. Her exact age is not known. Cams started in 2012 so she is at least 15+. I do not know if there are photos with Iris ID that can verify she is the female that was here prior to the cams, and if so, what year was she first seen. The forum has the history of this nest, page 1 of the forum.

@@androcat12 I know she wouldn't leave her babies, that was literally the first sentence of my comment. This is nature, nature is brutal. The gentleman/photographer was interviewed on the news, his name is Steven Wickwire. The last time he saw Harriet was last Thursday afternoon, he witnessed her chase after 2 juvenile eagles that were flying near the nest and that was the last time he saw her. 17 hours ago news stated that chances of her returning are slim to none. Whether it was from a fight with another bird of prey, an accident or natural causes, I don't believe she is with us any longer.

I have watched E22 this morning, their survival instinct is strong, trying to get nibbles off of leftover nest food. Hopefully, we see more food today and in the coming days. It is undoubtedly hard to watch. Please take a break if you need to.

maureen terry. I want to be honest with people so folks do not have false hope of CROW or another rescue group being allowed to rescue the eaglets. Permission to pull eaglets from a nest is normally only granted by USFWS/FWC when there is a manmade issue causing the illness/injury. CROW or any other rescue group does not make that decision. The Pritchett's would have to request the evaluation of the situation through FWC, USFWS makes the decision, and the opinion of a rescue may be considered by USFWS. M15 is doing his job trying to protect and raise his eaglets; he has not abandoned them. I do not see USFWS allowing interference. If M15 has lost Harriet, and his eaglets are taken from him, I do not want to even think about what that will do to M15 and his future here. I hope my words do not upset you, and you understand what the situation is like for M15.

M15 has always taken such good care of his E’s. He is doing exactly what I knew he would do. Harriet has stolen everyone’s heart. So much to love with her. Hi @Androcat. This was quite hard for me to watch but I am honestly glad I did because by watching this video, I feel that there was a bird or unwanted visiting Eagle flying above that got Harriett all frazzled and she was not a happy Eagle either but her vocalizing and watching what was above her too.🤔 I am wondering whatever it was had made Harriett fly away and possibly chase after what it was or fly in another direction and is staying away for safety reasons for herself or whatever “that was” had gotten to her (just my opinion only). That flying animal above her surly made her mad enough to fly away. I just wish we could have been able to see what it was then we could put all the puzzles together. Susan Morris. I agree; that day and the day before there was a reduction in food deliveries. Watching the cam and the behavior of H&M, IMO, that was due to the presence of other eagles. H&M had to secure the area versus forage for food. This area has a dense population. I tell folks that, but it is hard for people to really grasp it. H&M spend a good amount of their time securing their territory. I am not going to speculate on what happened, but territorial battle is definitely a possibility. People are searching, the Pritchett's have and continue to search their property, and residents will call if they see an eagle grounded. 💜🙏🏻

I live here also and the area of the nest is quite rural, heavily wooded and vegatation is also dense, plus there are bodies of water everywhere, venomous snakes, gators, bears, panthers and other predators. This would be a needle in a haystack. Secondly, they often go across and down the road sometimes to a totally different area than the nest and into a thick, forested area behind the Publix grocery store where it would be extremely difficult for anyone to go into that area to llok for her. pesyira. I was there first thing Friday morning and searched areas I know she goes to, and areas accessible to me. There are hundreds of acres of private land we do not have access to, and there is no starting point where Harriet was last seen. I am confident the Pritchett’s have searched their farm, and locals are checking their areas. All the residents in the area are familiar with what is going on, and will call if they see something. I had to leave town Friday after I went to the nest. I will return as soon as I get back to town. 💜

Merle Wilson. YW. This was the last view of Harriet on the attic. She flew N/NW on the Cam3 view at 17:36; my recording had COD during that time frame and I didn't realize it until later, so I did not capture her flight out. I believe her two E's, E21 and E22, are as well prepared as any eaglets could be to make it on their own. M15 will spend time continuing to care for them post fledge, and they typically stick around for 4-6 weeks before heading out on their own life adventure. I hope we get to see them a lot on Cam3, down at the pond. I love Harriet also, and have learned so much from watching her and M15. I still miss her every day 💔. Thank you for watching. 🙏🏻💜

I've never commented before on the eagles but I have watched for several years. I am devastated that Harriet is missing - terrible to listen to M15 calling and looking around for her. I wonder if he can successfully handle the job by himself, esp. with the sibling rivalry which is so hard to watch. I wonder if the people there can leave food near the tree so he doesn't have to leave the eaglets alone for long while looking for food.

Ccbrundage. Thank you for watching and commenting. I am devastated also. M15 can do this alone. The intruders/visitors make it more difficult for him, as he has to guard more versus forage for food. People who watched my channel and the local nests I cover saw a male lose his mate last season with two eaglets, three weeks old. His situation was almost identical to M15. We have seen this on other cams also. My opinion is M15 will give everything he has to raise the E's. I continue to pray for Harriet's return. 🙏🏻

Ccbrundage. I meant to address the food issue. Leaving food is illegal, and more importantly, will made a tough situation dangerous. Leaving food will attract more eagles, exactly what we do not want. Also, it can attract the coyotes that live in this area, which is a dangerous situation.

Whatever happened to Harriet must have happened shortly after she left the nest that night. She was so devoted to those chicks. I watched her earlier and they way she would look down on them. I know M15 cannot do it alone. It pathetic to hear him crying. I hope he does not become stressed and abandon the nest.

M15 can do this alone; it is a big challenge being made more difficult by visitors/intruders in the area. M15 is driven to protect the E’s, and the visiting eagles make it hard for him to leave to forage.

I remember last season and she laid the second egg e20 I could see that she had a hard time and it really rattled her then this year they had a to rebuild the nest because of Ian they did a wonderful job. Judit Orosz. I have seen single eagle parents successfully raise their eaglets after losing a mate. It has happened 5-6 times at my local nests. Only one nest failed, and that was due to the fact the male perished a few days before hatch. The female hatched her young, but they could not thermoregulate, obviously. The E's can, and M15 will do everything he can to raise them.

Tyrone Smith. Anyone saying that is speculating; no chase was seen on cam. That is one of the possible scenarios but is simply not known. I wonder what M15 was doing flying at night also. They will do that, plenty of ambient light here. They fly for a reason, either spooked, just moving from point A to point B. I have never seen him do three flights like that before. I am sure there is a reason, and I wish I knew what it was. I believe it was connected to Harriet.

People know to call if they see a grounded eagle, or an eagle perched low appearing to be injured or perching for a long period. There are some areas here that are impenetrable. There are hundreds and hundreds of acres where she could possibly be.

If Harriet does not reappear, Will there be intervention for the babies. If one of them were to be removed leaving just 1 and the other taken to a center to me would be the best option at this point. I don't know what the state and local laws are regarding something like this. If anybody knows could you please reply.

cynthea williams. FWC/USFWS makes that decision. They will not pull the eaglets if he is protecting them, caring for them, and feeding them. I do not believe there is a reason to take M15's eaglets from him. There were a couple of rough days with intruders/visitors here, making it difficult for him to leave to hunt. It appears things have settled down some. M15 is doing amazing. If the situation changes, and FWC/USFWS decides to pull the eaglets, they will be separated and re-nested with another eagle family. Hope that helps.

CCbrundage. That is possible. This is a big news story here, and the local rescues are aware. If an eagle is taken into care, the facility must immediately notify USFWS they have the bird. It will be known if a facility rescues an eagle anywhere close to that general area.

Becky Bloomer. We have no answers. Some speculate there may have been territorial battling; however, no one witnessed that, and Harriet was not located after extensive searching. She could have been anywhere, and some areas are not accessible for searching. Sadly, on cams, we have seen this before, where a mate disappears and is not located. This leaves us without answers. 😕

Hi there From points west. M15 is protecting his eaglets, guarding his nest tree area, and providing food for his eaglets. FWC/USFWS are monitoring the situation. For now, I do not believe interference is justified, and doubt we will see any. If the situation changes, it would be up to FWC/USFWS to make that decision. Usually we only see interference during a nesting season if the issue is man-made. FWC is our state game/wildlife commission.

@rainwatercolor. COD is circle of doom, the circle that is on the screen when a live stream goes down or momentarily off line. I live in SWFL, and we got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Ian. It took several months to get internet working properly. A lot of infrastructure here had to be rebuilt. When I would record the cam live stream, my internet would go in and out. I would have COD in my recordings. Usually I would catch it quickly and re-record. I missed the COD on my recording, unfortunately, when I reviewed it. Hope that helps.

Do eagles have certain rituals when they go to die? It seems dead eagles are rarely found - and I am wondering if any experts know eagle habits. Do they prefer to die alone - in order to not bring attention to their young ? Do they die on water or on land? So many unknowns.

Lady Heather. Eagles perish when they become grounded, if they are not seen and rescued. Injured eagles that cannot fly will hide. Since they are unable to hunt, they are not able to survive. We have a high population here in Florida, and many wildlife/raptor rescues that get calls to assist grounded eagles/wildlife. If they are able to recover, they are released back to the area they came from.
