E9 is indeed a fine specimen of the eagle family. One of my favorite things to watch is when E9 is out of the nest tree and mom or dad bring food to the nest and E9 spots it. Here he comes in overtime speed and plops down covering the food and warning mom or dad to get moving. LOL. I have spent a lot of time laughing at his antics. Now he is a majestic young eaglet on his way to being totally independent.

It took me a moment to realize M was in the background. What a perfect moment. So powerful to watch. E9 is the next generation, standing ahead, learned, regal, and looking towards the future. The Dads in the background strong, steady, living his life with purpose, and preparing his young for what's ahead. ❤️

Johanna Bhattarai Good morning, I have always thought I'd love to hold him/her to my chest and kiss that beautiful little head that's going to eventually turn white and majestic. Hi Johanna - it would be wonderful to hold E9. I have often thought about the volunteers at CROW who get to handle and care for our raptors daily and the time E8 was first rescued as a baby- what it must have felt like to hold him and give him a kiss. ♥♥

Yes > ...and He is not all grown-up, yet!! We Can state that when He Has that White Feathered Head, and Yellow Beak+ :-) I know there is another name for a Bird's/Eagle's 'beak', right? With the Parakeet it's called a Sauer, but I don't think that's the right spelling? It's just how the word sounds - let Me know if Someone knows?

Hi Ladyhawk! Beautiful shots of E9 and dad in this and yes he's all grown up. Mom was on her throne warning those grackles and crows quite a bit lol. Be cool if E9 caught one! I got a lot of nest watching in today due to being home sick with the flu :-( . I hopped over to check on the Valors a few times too. Ty for todays vids :-)
@kakawyayo34787 жыл бұрын
I have a few seasonal Grackles that visit my feeders during spring and early summer months. I've noticed like crows and Jays they tend to alert other birds of potential dangers. Grackles remind me of Cat Birds or Mocking Birds, they will do everything in their power to protect their territory. They see this Eagle family as a threat and will do what they can to provide safety for their own, even as bold as these antics are. It's all a good lesson for E to know what he is in for in the long run.
@TomSawyerEaglePro7 жыл бұрын

Hi Tom - hope you are feeling better today! I also have grackles in my yard - they are always chasing the other birds away. Very territorial. I heard that Harriet caught a crow yesterday but did not see it on the cams - I guess she had had enough too (if that was indeed what she caught) Someone else said it looked like squirrel.
@TomSawyerEaglePro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ladyhawk thank you! ❤ I am feeling better today another day off work needed. Watching the Stewards nest today and popping in on SWFEC to see if there's any activity. I don't get a lot of crows or grackles where I am in Charleston/Kiawah S.C. lots of seagulls though lol. If H really ended up catching a crow yesterday that would be awesome :-)

Hi DovWythe - We all are feeling the sadness already of E9 leaving us and if he ever did come back we would not be able to recognize him. Whenever a juvie is spotted at the nest tree we all like to think that perhaps that is one of H & O's offspring (depending on the age). I love E9's big brown eyes!! They just melt my heart ♥♥♥ Thank you for watching!

This baby is beautiful. Her face is adorable. I've looked at the other eaglets at SWFL but none compare to the cuteness of her face. The others looked like eagles (if you know what I mean.) She still looks like a baby. Even when she eats she looks like an innocent. I guess I like her (Ha!)

Lots of love to you E9.... I think I prefer when he looks face to the camera with these big beautiful dark eyes :O than when he's in profile... He's my first eaglet, and I feel so lucky and blessed to have visited this site when E9 was in his egg... I haven't missed a single day since ! I don't know if you saw that Harriett killed a crow yesterday evening, finally.

Hi Pascalou - that is awesome that you have watched from the very beginning too. What an incredible journey this has been. I think my heart melts each time I look at those big dreamy brown eyes of his in this video! Enjoyed watching E9 go from egg to eagle. I have seen other eagle nest footage and noticed a lot of sibling rivalry between eaglets . Bonking , and sometimes killing. Being that E9 is an only child I didn't have to witness that with him. Is this typical behavior between all baby birds or just eagles 🦅
@psdavenport7 жыл бұрын
I know that black vultures do that too. Probably lots of baby birds do.
@ladyhawk7 жыл бұрын
Hi DJR- it is typical for eagles and some other raptors. I have seen it on osprey nest to a lesser extent - mostly it is driven by competition of the chicks over food. I watch several Peregrine falcon nests and have not seen any aggression with the siblings like with the eagles. As for other baby birds, I don't know if that occurs in all nests. From the nests I have observed, it did not.

It's so weird to think that E9's eyes and beak will change colors as well as his feathers. But the eyes and the beak are really interesting.

When E9 leaves will Harriet and M stick around? Do other birds end up using there nest too??
@ladyhawk7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy- yes, H & M do not leave the territory. They stay here year round. They will not frequent the nest very often during the summer, but will perch in the nest tree , visit the pasture and Yonder pond. No other birds use this nest. We have seen visitors come for a brief stay but they move on quickly.

@ladyhawk7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jo and thank you so much. We will never know if E9 is male or female - needs a blood test to confirm it and we can't tell just by looking at him. I think E9 is a male based on my observations though :) Thank you for watching.
@DeafJana647 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Curious: how long will it take his color feather will change to look more like a bald eagle like his parents. and its good to see E9 to stay in. I'm afraid he'll be gone sooner before but guess one day he'll disappear. I'm afraid but I know its the nature.
@ladyhawk7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jana - E9 will start to have color changes in his feathers, beak and eyes beginning after his second year. They will slowly change from years 2-5 then E9 will have a full white head, tail and yellow beak and yellow by the time he is 5 years old. That is when he is sexually mature and ready to start a family. Here is a good link for you to see his progression! www.featheredphotography.com/blog/2013/01/27/a-guide-to-aging-bald-eagles/
