SWFL Eagles ~ HARRIET ACCIDENTALLY FLINGS E21 OUT OF THE NEST BOWL 🐦 Rolls E21 Back Under Her 1.6.23

This was a scary moment for those of us watching the livestream tonight. Harriet was sleeping and when she got up to roll egg #2 she turned around and it looked like E21 was on her foot and she accidentally flings the baby towards the rails and completely out of the nest bowl! For the next 9 minutes E21 waits patiently chirping for Mom to bring it back under her. Harriet is amazing and took control of the situation. Thankfully M15 built those nest guard rails so high that the baby was protected even in this unforeseen circumstance! Harriet will figure out how to continue to incubate egg#2 which is hatching and at the same time pull & roll E21 back underneath her safely!! Harriet gets Mom of the Year award tonight! A 2 day old hatchling could not survive in the cold weather being left unprotected!
M15 flies back to the attic shortly after this episode and Harriet vocalizes her greeting when he lands! M15 drops to the nest thinking he can incubate but Harriet was not about to get up after just getting E21 situated and E22 hatching! M flies back up to the attic to stand guard over his family. Well that was so scary. I was shocked at how long it took to get E21 back under her. E21 seemed to be working he or she self back to Mama. Mama finally got E21 back under her. Thank God it worked out.

Harriet truly is an amazing Mama. She kept shifting to keep an eye on E21 and still never stopped incubating E22. When she realized E21 was not coming back on it’s own, she was right there. What is so sweet was how gentle she was getting her baby safe under her. Thank you, Lady Hawk! What suspense!

As I watched this on live stream, I was saying, as tho she could hear me, Harriet, get your baby, please get your baby!!! But then I realized she was getting her baby but had to work her way close enough to roll it back under her and at the same time, protect the baby that was hatching. So, then I watched, fascinated how she was calmly and carefully positioning herself where she finally was close enough to bring E21 safe to her warm, cozy self!! Whew!!! Amazing rescue by Mom!! Those were a LONG twelve minutes between 10:52pm and 11:04pm! I was so concerned when E21 would chirp and yet Harriet would reposition herself away from E21 *and then almost fall back asleep!* My biggest concern in those 12 minutes was that E21 would get too cold and run out of energy to chirp, and then H would fall back asleep. And later, M15 landed right on the spot where E21 was! Thankfully, H got the baby back underneath her by that point. I was so relieved. ♥️

@@melmasi5098 yeah that was pretty scary lol that’s happened to me several times in the past too 😆, For an instant I always seem to forget that the “nest bowl” and the “nest” are two different things 😅 and so I always freak out anytime I see something like “eaglet rolls out of nest bowl” (or escapes the nest bowl, falls out of the nest bowl, is pushed out of the nest bowl..etc)

Oh my, that was scary! Thank god it wasnt fling out of the nest! Poor thing. Harriett cant see and you can tell she was stressed with that chirping sound, she keeps on getting up and rotating. In my head I kept on telling Harriett, go scoop her up like Mom DNR and she did. Thank goodness E21 keep on chirping. I know Harriett didn’t mean to fling E21 out, she’s an awesome Mom.

Oh wow that could have turned out badly. I keep forgetting that they don't see the light like we can, so she maybe didn't realize what had happened. If E21 didn't stop making sounds I hate to think what might have happened. I wonder if that's why M15 jumped down into the nest to make sure everything was alright. I think that the reflection of the church cross on the egg may have saved this little one. Thanx LH. I almost didn't want to watch this video.

After E21 was accidently flung out the nest bowl it looked like Harriet knew something wasn't right. She was restless trying to incubate the egg but knew something was wrong. She could hear E21 chirping but couldn't feel her under her. Remember it's dark on the nest so Harriet couldn't see E21 only hear the chirps. Thank God she figured it out and got E21 back under her!

Thank God is isn’t too cold. 53 degrees. I know Harriet will get E21 back under her safely! They are having little chats. It won’t be long! It seems E22 is trying very hard to hatch but they keeps rolling the egg so the pip is underneath.Maybe that’s what’s got her a little upset. If Harriet does physically get 21 Finn. It is so awesome that M15 thought when he and Harriett were rebuilding the nest to put the rails up higher or like everyone said, it could have been a much more disastrous situation. I freaked out when I read the beginning of this video and thought OMG! But, mom Harriett is one absolute awesome mommy and she was for sure gonna make sure both of her babies were back under her and safe too.🦅🐣🐣❤️ It’s situations that happen like this that turn out completely alright in the end and everyone is safe once again. Poor Harriet seemed so surprised when E21 popped its head up: "What are you doing over there?" It's surely incredibly difficult for birds of prey to handle their babies. Sharp talons, sharp beak-the slightest mistake could be fatal for the little ones. Harriet had to think about it a bit and give the baby the chance to get back to warmth on its own before she took control of the situation.

I can’t help but think that Harriet moved E21 out of the nest bowl in order to really work on the second egg. If you notice Harriet spent a lot of time and movement on the second egg and all the while still keeping an eye on E21. And once Harriet had 21 back under her 15 came right down and they had a discussion. I have to think that Harriet knows exactly what she’s doing as a seasoned eagle. Just my observation. But I will say 21 was pretty To the edge and I was holding my breath the whole time as well. Come on 20 to get out of that shell we are all waiting and loving this eagle family.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥵🥵🥵😘❣️❤️

That's amazing! You are absolutely right, Diana. It's clear to me that Harriet took her wing and gently brushed E21 out of the way. Once she had the whole egg cup to work with, Harriet began systematically and from every angle, over and over put a bit more weight onto the shell to help E22 hatch. Sure enough, E22 did emerge a few hours later. She did not leave E21 out of the egg cup for more than 10 minutes. I think when M came down, he was looking to see if he needed to possibly keep E21 warm for a while, but she was already safely under Mama. According to the write up here, it sounds like it had already been 48 or more hours since E21 had hatched. I think that if Harriet had not done this, E22 would not have made it. M tried to do something similar this year for what would have been E24, but I wonder if he made as many individual maneuvers in an entire circle as Harriet did. What an incredible eagle mama! What she did was somewhat risky, but she clearly knew what she was doing and succeeded. Trust the eagles!
