SWFL Eagles ~ R23-3 wants to mate and M15 is NOT in the mood 😂 💕 ~ 2023-03-05

M15 and R23-3 are perched on the attic to roost for the night, with M15 initially closest to the camera. They start vocalising and she nudges right up close to him and bowing her head down, indicating she wants to mate! M15 is not interested so he keeps stepping further away from her, but each time she follows him!! He eventually flies over her to the other side of the branch further away from the nest, but this doesn't work either as she moves right up close to him again. R23-3 is sure feeling romantic tonight! There was a lot of vocalising between the pair, write in the comments below how you think that conversation went! 😅 🤭

I knew someone was gonna put out this video cause I saw it live and I thought there was gonna be feathers flying when these two got so squawking with each other and by the description on the video, I’m so glad that dad stood his ground (or should I say, stood his perch). But all kidding aside, I don’t want her to leave tonight because yes, I’ll get flack from this but, if the GHO wants to attack then M won’t get it if she stays the night. I want him to be in good shape cause his E’s still need him and he is the food provider right now still. I sure as heck don’t want the E’s to go hungry since Magnificent15 had gotten them and hisself this far. Also, no female is gonna ruin anything too on Magnificent15’s timeline too. Through all this M-15 has been Father of the Year as compared to any species! It's good to see him take control of the R-23 situation and not let her intimidate him anymore with her bad behavior. I think this Rogue female is quite young & selfish. But I think M-15's rejections in favor of putting his family first could ultimately work in her benefit. That is provided it's teaching her how she needs to behave to entice him into a lifelong pair bond with her. Hard to say for sure just yet, but she seems to be getting the message.

I just had a passing thought today. Could it have been possible that while diving into a body of water and alligator could have sprung out and grabbed Harriett? I'm sure it being Florida there could at least be the chance of that. I doubt it would be the pond the tree. But I'm sure Harriett and M-15 have visited other lakes and rivers to hunt. I've also seen videos of bald eagles in Alaska who when they dive for a fish it's too deep of water. Or that they do get soaked/weighed down by the water that they need help getting out of the water. Maybe that's what could have happened with Harriett here sadly.

He is having a hard enough time with 2 what would he would with 1 or 2 more? And where would they go. She needs to just back off for a bit. She will be the next mate I think. If he doesn’t feed 21 then she won’t be full. If she isn’t fed plenty then she’ll get more vicious with her nipping. Then 22 won’t get anything. Sometimes she’ll still be stuffed after eating a fish or two and will move away. Then 22 can get in there to get the food. 22 will have his good days and his not so best days. As long as he still gets food in his stomach and crop, he’ll do just fine.

Thanks, I don't think I've witnessed this before ☺ Perhaps the female is more dominant in many Eagle ways. Love their chortles & Ms facial expressions are great. There is a video on here somewhere, that a female is rejecting her original mate after he vanished for a while. A new male came in then the original male came back and they fought. Next you can see the OG male trying to mate with the female but she keeps on screaming at him and snapping at him. He flies off her and onto a branch, she hops after him and chases him off that branch. It's pretty interesting. I can find it for you if you're interested. A warning though, they put music into the video.

Normally eagles follow and still feed and protect their offspring for 4-6 weeks after they have left the nest. I wonder what M15 will do given he has a new mate. If E21 leaves the nest first, will M15 follow and abandon E22? We'll soon find out sometime this month.

He’ll do what he normally does. Go back and forth between them or take it to the nest. If E21 fledges, then she’ll get herself back into the nest to eat. Once the eldest sibling fledges the youngest isn’t too far behind. They don’t wonder off too far anyway, they’ll still hang around their territory for a while.

It’s dark out, he can’t see in the dark, and as long as the eaglets get food in their stomach and crops, they’ll be fine. Plus people seem to forget that there was a subadult at the nest a day or two after Harriet left and before R showed up. She was the one that tried to snatch E22 away but dad put a stop to it. I’m sure Lady Hawk has the video of it.
