Another epic video mate. So sorry about the awning, gutted.

Thanks Matthew. I took it to test it so it’s all good 😊 Will be using the Kampa Dometic 200 for these kinds of trips moving forward.

Cracking video, pity about the weather and damage to the awning

Thanks Frank. The weather was full on at times it has to be said. The awning put up a brave battle!

Fantastic - that was a really moody start to the Vlog. And what a site but for a split second I thought that the bath in the dog wash area was for human use ! 😳

Another great video 👍 I am a lover of ‘quiet’ so that site looks perfect 😉 I also enjoy a good walk when the weather is a bit rough, have always loved the sensation of being out when its wild ⛈💨🌨

Likewise… I love going out when it’s rough. The Quiet site is amazing it has to be said. My only niggle is with so much camping options available I think it will be very busy in season.

Two years ago when we were pitched near Newquay Cornwall there was a lady opposite us in a folding camper who used to take great delight when an air awning exploded during the heat wave! They would go off with quite a bang! She was a bit of a character if only a tad mean spirited. Lol!

Not had that scenario…. Yet😂. Good point though. I will be aware of that this summer.

Fantastic video yet again. Striking the balance between using the Basecamp for its intended purpose and the activities that surround it. The current weak yen has meant that my import of a caravan to Japan has been delayed. Thanks to that though, I have put a little extra thought into which model will best suit my needs. I also came across your channel a few months ago which has really pushed the Basecamp up in my evaluation. So much so, that it is now on the shortlist of two. One of the main advantages of the Basecamp is the rear door which has a LOT of advantages for Japan. One huge advantage being the rear awning. Thanks to this video, you made me think about our Winters here. Whilst the Kanto region is mostly sunny and very dry, the mountains and more northern regions are snow country. I realised that the RVA-2 would be useless without a centre beam as in the RVA-1, which would likely have a better chance in a heavy snowfall, although if heavy snow were forecasted, I wouldn't use the awning at all. Thanks for that! A very, very useful video and possibly not the reaction you may have been expecting.

Thanks for your thoughts. I also have a Kampa Dometic 200 awning (poled) with storm straps which is bomb proof. I will be using it as my winter awning going forward. The RVA2 is a superb awning no doubt and did perform well overall but it’s just not a good option for extreme weather.

Amazing trip you had there! Could you explain a little bit the "4:26" action of filling water in the container? I'm new to caravans, but I got intrigued with your saying "whoever came up with the idea is a genius? :)

Oh yes…. I was drawing water from the Aqua Roll (external water storage) to fill the toilet flush via the external shower

We were in the other Basecamp on a pitch just along from you at the weekend. We used our Kampa Air Pro 200 awning and it was absolutely great in the wind. In fact Saturday night was even more stormy and the Kampa was rock solid. I’d definitely say its a 4 season Basecamp awning!

Yes I saw you and thought to myself good choice of awning! Looked smart on the back to. I will be reverting back to my Kampa 200 for winter camping.

Another Excellent Vlog Nick. What a stunning area. Shame about the Awning but your Theory was proved to be correct. Hope you get the awning repaired 👍🏻

£300 to repair it😱. Getting it done though as it’s a cracking awning.
@DJ-gq1xu2 жыл бұрын
Do you think any modifications / double stitching etc, could the RV2 ‘bomb proof’ or is it a running repair back and back to three season duty? I do like the look of it. Have the Dometic already.
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales2 жыл бұрын
@@DJ-gq1xu the awning rail strip is clearly a weak point in extreme weather and part of the high cost to the repair is because I’m having it reinforced. There are three weak points in my view:- 1. The air beams bend in on themselves when high winds are blowing directly onto the awning. I think this is what caused mine to collapse. 2. The internal air-beam which spans above the main window is to long and can bend in high winds 3. It’s lightweight construction ideal for touring is comprised by its large footprint making it unstable in bad weather. I am currently mulling this very question over as it would be great to be able to use it all year round as it’s stunning looking awning on the Basecamp. I must say though that the RVA2 did do a good job all round at standing up to the weather, particularly at night time when very strong winds and rain came through so the collapse mine eventually had might be rare. That said, when I go out in the winter, I need peace of mind and the RVA2 doesn’t give me that now. For spring and summer it will be a perfect awning.

Thanks very much for the info. Good to know. We are yet to get the storm straps for the Dometic. Sounds like they will be a good purchase. Love the vids.

Thanks for sharing another fab site - The Quiet Site. I’m now torn between this one and the one in Anglesey for my trip. If you can recall, what’s the mobile signal like at the Ulswater site? And I tow a 7.5 meter single axle caravan, what’s the roads like approaching the site
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales10 ай бұрын
4G at the Quiet Site is excellent with Vodaphone. Single track road up to the site but easy to manage. Lots of big vans at the site both times I’ve been. They a use a one way system for Leisure Vehicles meaning you won’t meet one coming down as your driving up to the site.
