Love your videos! Could I ask with this particular campsite and others do you book far in advance to secure a pitch? Do you mainly plan these trips during the week or weekends? Keep up the great work!

@@blackpool123 Most of the two to three night adventures like this one I book over the weekend or shoulder the weekend so I don’t use all my holidays up in work. I tend to book them several weeks in advance and avoid school half terms. The week long trips I book months in advance. For example it’s December now and I’ve already booked Scotland and Cornwall for next summer.

I worry she would wonder off if innocently called as I don’t have my eye on her all the time when out camping in the BC. I’m usually distracted with capturing content!

@@markwantling2893 The app I use for the walks is called Outdoor Active. I subscribe to it at the ‘Pro’ level to unlock all the features I need. It’s about £30 per year. I use the app in combination with the ‘Wild Guide’ series of books to find all the places I hike to and plan the routes.

A great vlog and you raise an interesting point on campsite choice with the increase in site fees we now tend to only book CL sites with electric hookups they are cheaper than fully serviced sites which enables us to go away touring an area for a full month! Have you planned any trips for next year yet? we have already booked our 5 site tour of North Wales and Angelsey using the cl sites!

The site I’m on the now is perfect for us its a 5 min walk into the village. But Dumfries and Galloway is an excellent area Nick especially around Newton Stewart, Isle of Whithorn and the Mull of Galloway plenty areas to choose from you would love it. It was about -5 here last night -7 tonight but bessie BC holding up well.

@ I love being in the Basecamp when it’s really cold🥶. I have been looking at Dumfries and Galloway but most of the touring parks are closed over the winter months. I’ve been scouting other areas of the borders.

@@CaravanWithThatYorkshireChap its a bit of both. I’ve taught myself to fly the drone very slow when recording but sometimes the footage is still to fast so I slow it down in post. I do try to do everything in camera though to save time in the edit.

@@CaravanWithThatYorkshireChap I capture all the content at 4K 60FPS. This allows for up to 50% reduction in speed. However, if a panning shot is captured to fast it will be choppy no mater the FPS. It takes practice to master and I have ruined loads of good content in the past due to panning to fast.

Yet another superb video Nick. Once again your cinematography is simply outstanding. I could sense your excitement of getting onto the island at the start of this video. You have reminded me that I must take my own adventure to Anglesey in 2025 - it’s a relatively short trip from South Wales for me 😉. How stunning and fascinating was the brickworks, I love history and visiting places like that are so interesting. Did you see that the Brambles CL on Anglesey won both best CL in Wales and overall CL of the Year in the recent Caravan Club awards? We’re spoilt for choice. Hi there bud, I've just purchased a new Jboil Zip, there is something rattling about inside the gas regulator and when I install it I get a lot of gas shooting out the sides. Is this bad technique or do you think something is wrong with it?

@@smithysartpan8443 When the gas canister is being attached to the regulator there is a temporary loss of gas but this literally last a second or so. It could be you are not screwing the gas canister on tightly enough however it sounds more like your unit is defective. If your unsure best to exchange it for another one. I’ve had my zip for years now and it still works fine.

Hi Nick, Well this has put a spanner in the works. I’ve got a RVA 2 and it’s too cumbersome for just me on short adventures. I was an inch away from getting a kampa rally 200 poled (like you had on your earlier videos). Now the Westfield lynx has taken centre stage. Can you tell me why you switched and what are the benefits please? Dave

@@DavidPass-t5c Hi David. The Westfield Lynx Travel Smart 200 is easier and quicker to pitch than the Kampa awning I started with. I prefer the Westfield but the Kampa is a notch larger inside than the Westfield. Finally the Westfield looks great on the Basecamp

I'm looking at the base camp mainly due to your videos!! do you park nose in first with awning out to the front ? Or mainly back door first. Only thing that puts me off them is the back door rather than on the side does it bother you at all.

@@lukejack56 I park the caravan in the direction of the best view. With regards to the backdoor, the caravan was designed this way so bikes can be stored and transported. Personally I love the design as this opens up the space inside. It’s personal preference so maybe go have a look at one however the caravan doesn’t need to be a Basecamp to get out and enjoy the delights of camping adventures.

Nick, have you refined your packing technique at all since your early days? As the best Basecamp vlogger it would be good to go over some of the more mundane packing/checklist/setting up stuff again. IMO Money for old rope, but YT algo loves revisiting stuff 😉

There’s several reports on the FB group of leaking Basecamps. I’m guessing from joins in the body construction, doors and windows.

Water ingress can be a problem in all leisure vehicles. The troublesome areas in a Basecamp ‘can’ be the infinity window and the back door. The latter though in earlier models. The actual joints in the construction are impervious to water ingress by the nature of the design. This is called Swift SMART construction. Our Basecamp is four years old now, used regularly and has had no issues with leaking.

I’m on Nightshift so just watched this during my break. You’ve had a good season so far and it’s been great viewing. 5 awnings mate 😂😂 you are now officially the awning whisper 😂. Interesting regarding pitches i always go for hard standing with a preference for fully serviced which does limit choice a bit. I have now booked my two weeks holiday in Wales next summer both fully serviced. It just makes it easier. However i do still go to EHU only sites. Do you have anything planned for winter or will it be spur of the moment choices? Great wee vlog Nick 👍🏻

Dumfries and Galloway is a stunning area Nick you’ll love it make sure and visit the Mull of Galloway its awesome and the lighthouse is amazing you can climb up it, the views are stunning. Portpatrick is bonnie isle of Whithorn is lovely also.

Great video Nick! 👏👏👏 We were going to get rid of our expensive and great quality pole framed full sized Isabella awning in favour of our inflatable porch awning, but found that simply labelling the poles really well so that both me and my partner knew exactly where the poles went - thus being able to put it up quicker, made us rethink. Glad we have kept both. The pole framed awning is far superior in bad weather.

Thanks for the reflections Nick. The piece relating to awnings was very relatable. I have purchased 4 different awnings for the California so far and got rid of 3 of them. What I have now works okay but I will only bother with it if I am going to be staying in 1 place for a few days. The perfect scenario is where I just use the wind out awning and avoid the faff.
