I use US Diver Rocket Fins (so does BUDS) and I have a pair of Cressi Frog Fins

Whenever I do the side stroke, I feel like a come to a dead stop at the end of my breath. Also, it takes me about 6 strokes to get to the end of the pool with an initial kick that gets me 1/3 of the way there, any tips?

You cannot do a combo of the two. You need to either do a full breast stroke kick or a scissor kick. Do more 4 count flutterkicks to work the hips / hip flexors. And get a kick board. See my other videos on my channel for how we helped the bad kick with the XC runner.

I am pretty sure Stew Smith got out of shape when he went to BUD/S.

Dang; I need Stew to show me how to swim like that. Also, could use Stew’s help to improve my runs.

That is fast - can you maintain it for 500yd doing the CSS? or are you talking about underwater swimming? If underwater - it is not timed so no need to go fast - just get it done.

In SWCC training do you have to do all of these evolution's?

Hey Stew, can you give me a tip on improving my scissor kick during the css. My kick is almost like a breast stroke kick.

were those rocket fins?

If I'm not always allowed to swim with goggles, what about any contamination in the water? I've read it went do any permanent damage. But just to make sure. Is it safe to swim underwater without goggles? Second question. Will I get used to it?
@StewSmith1826 жыл бұрын
There will be rules during bootcamp, some PSTs with mentors that you will not be allowed to wear goggles or wear a mask. You have to get used to it. Pool water is safe typically. I obviously cannot vouch for all pools...

People say I should have my arms straight while doing css others say I should have my arms bent at a 90 degree angle just like the double arm pull. Which one is faster and more efficient?
@StewSmith18210 жыл бұрын
We bend our arms and grab water as much as we can and you do that with a bent elbow. Pulling with your forearms like they are oars in the water.

IS THIS SIDE STROKE SO YOU USE HARDLY NO EFFORT, INSTEAD OF JUST STRAIGHT UP SWIMMING HAND OVER HAND

Hey Stew i am a triathlete and a lifeguard and i was also used to be doing pull ups. Do people who do pull ups more stronger than swimmers
@StewSmith18210 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Swimmers who do pullups will likely be stronger swimmers.

Hey stew im going to bootcamp in 2 months with a recon contract. I learned the css through you and im comfortable with it. I cant get the eggbeater down to save my life and no matter how much i try and have a go at it its just impossible for me. I can tread normally for an hour but as soon as my hands come out the water, im going down. Recon involves quite a bit of treading with no hands and then with weights. If i cant even go without hands, the weights are going to kill me
@StewSmith1829 жыл бұрын
Keep practicing the egg beater or you can still try with either scissor kicks or flutter kicks, it's just a little harder. As the recon Marine above stated, you definitely need to work on turtle backing with fins, the CS stroke is a good skill but we mainly use it to swim 2 mile ocean swims fast. During our training we have to do 2 miles as fast as you can and using fins and an underwater recovery stroke.

It takes me about10-15 seconds to reach the other end of the pool. And I swim in a 25 meter pool
@John_Sample11 жыл бұрын
I can maintain it for about 250 yards before it gets longer.
