Did not ream the pipe ends before installing into risers. Did not mark the first one to know if you got it all the way in. Buried the joints before pressure testing the line ( IF YOU DID A Pressure test ) they can leak! always check them before burying. I am sure you know this so teach the kid to be precise and take no short cuts. My trainer once got mad at me for saying " Its just a !!! " he flipped out and said it is never " UST A" anything, it is always right or do not do it at all.. Wise words because I admired his ethic for good work and inherited them for myself.

I recently ran an underground electrical wire in plastic conduit and had to dig a trench >18" deep to meet code. It was only 14 ft long so used a spade by hand and my ground is fairly soft with few rocks, but 18" is a lot deeper than it sounds. I also had to tunnel it under a concrete sidewalk.

That poly is way different than California, we have to cut, spray it to clean it then have to ream it then put the stab fitting on
@ChuckBarron

hmmmmm its amazing all the different material out there..its the same as gas company uses here.
@morganali9636

no poly is poly for gas. he just did it wrong. when using a Stab fitting you are supposed to chamfer the end with a tool. He didn't do it. Chamfuring the ends bevels the end to ensure the oring will go inside the pipe. Without chamfuring the pipe you run the risk of the oring not going into the pipe or not sealing properly and thus have a gas leak. i talked to supply houses and alot of plumbers make this plumber 101 mistake they would come in complaining the fittings are leaking come to find out they didn't chamfur the ends OR they used the wrong chamfur tool. it's a small step but a very important step to ensure relaiablity and safety concering the fittings

Hello this is Michael I noticed that you installed a Tracer wire to locate the gas pipe later. I work for an electric and plumbing company and they got a call about a clogged sewer but the sewer machine kept hitting something, a telecomunications conduit that was installed with a directional boring machine that went through the sewer line.

What should something like this cost start to finish, connected to meter and heater? I have an identical situation, 12' trench in a straight line. I have already dug the trench. The quote I received seems ridiculous. They want $2000... the trench is dug. Lay the pipe, terminate and pressure test, get it inspected, hook it up. Two fairly quick trips I would think. I want the guys to make a profit, but $2000 seem high?
@ChuckBarron

seems cheap to me....they assume all responsibility. I read this great quote on line this week......as consumers do we ever ask our favorite eatery to lower price, or wash our own dishes to save a dollar or two...Nope. But all contractors get hammered daily. Its amazing. We offering a professional clean job so the consumer can get what they want....time to hit the beach if they like. anyway .....seems cheap and I pay it so i could get in my hot pool asap....plumb on brother.

Hey guys, got a project i need to hit. 150-175ft to the pool😞 do you think 1 1/4" will handle a 200,000 BTU heater? Or does that sound to small. And I didn't think about a tracer wire, great tip. Even if it not required. (Michigan, haven't checked) Is that just basic 18 gauge wire or something special? Nice videos. You guys do good hard work👍thx.

Since you didn't get any real reply I'll tell you. You can go to home depot online and buy a 1 inch " by 100 ft kit with two risers and two compression unions for like 230 bucks. And you can trench it yourself pretty easily. I used a pick axe with the broad shovel end and a small sprinkler trenching shovel and I was able to do it easily. The real pain in the ass is if you have to navigate around underground utilities and sprinkler pipes/drainage now that sucked. You'll need to buy 14 AWG tracer @ 100ft wire for about 30 bucks too and a permit through the city which was 100 bucks for my small city. If you have a clean dig path just rent a trencher. Remember to call blue stakes however those idiots missed my power main and my cable line and I struck the power main but it was their fault for not properly marking it. You will need to pressure check it with an inspector but that is easy just cap one end and the other end get a cheap tire inflator with a dial gauge at harbor freight to inflate and show the pipe holds pressure. If you are a do it yourself you can do this pretty easily especially if you buy the kit.

@@vampov yes I installed my own gas line as well from the meter to the back patio. I varied my method compared to urs though. I did buy the PE pipe from HomeDepot but i stayed awayfrom the cheap non reliable compression fittings. The compression fittings have to be done just right or they leak. Also they only have ONE ORING to seal when that ring fails you got a leak no redundancy they are also not class 1 fittings. Class 1 fitings are designed to never pull out. I used Stab fittings from Contintal "ConStab" fittings these type of fittings are kind of like shark bite you prep the end and then stab the pipe into the fitting where teeth grab onto the pipe and never let go. This fitting has 2 O RINGS so if the first oring fails the other will maintain the seal. Also the orings seal on the inside of the pipe were there are less likely to damage occur. These are Class 1 rated so they are designed once they got a hold of the pipe to never pull out. the compression fittings are about $25 the stab fittings are about $40 alittle more but definitely worth the price. Now the stab fittings you do have to buy a $31 chamfur tool and chamfur the ends this bevels the inside of the pipe so the orings will slide into the pipe. If you do this again i would suggest looking into Con stab or Honeywell's Permasert Stab fittings. far superior and relaible compared to compression fittings. here is a link t the stab fittings hubbellcdn.com/literature/CONT_ID-Seal-Stabs-Connector-Catalog.pdf I got my risers from HomeDepot as well the pipe and risers are good but the fittings sucked that was my only variation. Since PE pipe is not conductive it's always advisable if not required by code to run tracer wire so if you need to locate the line in the future will be able to without that wire locating will not be possible without excavation. I ran tracer wire with the pipe burried it halfway then ran marker tape that said Caution buried gas line below so in case someone didn't locat e line and tried to dig in that area would run itno that and know there is a buried gas line below double saftey. here is a link www.amazon.com/Swanson-BTND3100YBGL4-1000-Feet-Non-Detectable-Caution/dp/B0081ZRTZK/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-p13n1_0?crid=34TJU3AQ0X4ZD&cv_ct_cx=caution+buried+gas+line+below&dchild=1&keywords=caution+buried+gas+line+below&pd_rd_i=B0081ZRTZK&pd_rd_r=97e533be-6d6e-423f-9f96-cfc02bd2d682&pd_rd_w=W9UV2&pd_rd_wg=MMpb7&pf_rd_p=e7ea7987-56a0-4822-adda-f67db5e22b16&pf_rd_r=D0C53H3WWX5E4W7SZJVC&psc=1&qid=1599087036&sprefix=caution+buried+gas+line%2Caps%2C190&sr=1-1-791c2399-d602-4248-afbb-8a79de2d236f I also put a shutoff valve at the tee where line ties into meter and a shuttoff valve at the other end. SO if an emergency happens can shut supply to the line wihtout having to shut the gas to the whole house off. and shut it off really fast since it is a ball valve and not those types gas company uses where have to get a wrench. installing this gas line was a pain the butt i had drain lines and sprinkler lines so couldn't usea trencher. I had to dig the line by hand. The line was 70 ft long and 2 feet deep. I never want to do that again. But i had to cause i called 3 plumbers and all of them wanted 5k to do it. I'm not rich so ended up doing it myself all in all cost me around $500 to DIY myself. But i had a plumber tie my line into the meter which was about 3 ft of pipe from my riser i terminated at the meter to the meter he charged only $493 so i was about about $1k which is still alot cheaper than $5k
