This applies to all swimming pool pumps. Some pump capacitors are on the motor and some are in the back under the cover.

Just had a brand new pool installed and the breaker kept tripping. It would run for a few hours, then trip again. When the pool was installed, there were no empty slots on my breaker box, so they added a small breaker box with a few breakers (pump, pool light, etc). Only the one for the pump trips. So, they replaced the breaker for the pump and it ran for a few hours and tripped again. They just replaced the new pump, with another new pump today and so far it's working (only been two hours). If this doesn't work, what else might be causing the issues? This is frustrating to deal with, especially considering the pool is not even a week old yet! Thanks so much for your videos!

If everything is new, I would say it's an amp draw issue. Breaker size might be wrong. The pump will have the larger amp draw. Could have been a capacitor issue also. If it happens again, get an electrician in to look at it.

I'm fighting this right now. The old pump was seized, so I bought a new pump. Now it's tripping the breaker. Tried several breakers, 15, 20, and a 40. Trips instantly no hum or anything.

How long should a pool motor work? Had a guy tell me today they last 2, 3, 4 years. That seems incorrect to me. My pump is also tripping a circuit.

A pool pump lasts a very long time. I have customers where the pumps are over 10 years old. They last a long time if serviced when needed. If your pump is tripping the breaker, test the motors capacitor.

@@VIPPoolsandSpas Thank you. The "fixer" is coming by tomorrow and I'll stand over him to test the capacitor. This pump is 2016 so not brand new. But It's $579 I was not expecting to pay.

Following back up, I watched the whole replacement. The motor was very rusty on the bottom and even if it had been the capacitator - the motor was not long for this world. I had him replace it. I appreciate your fast response as I learn more about maintaining my pool.

My pump works for about 3 seconds then trips the breaker. Already changed the capacitor with no success. Should I try the circuit breaker or the timer next ?

Your pool pump runs for 3 seconds then trips the breaker? Is this consistent? Can you turn back on and it runs for 3 seconds then does the same thing?

@@VIPPoolsandSpas so it’s like this: sometimes I reset the breaker twice and the pump stays on. Sometime I need to reset the breaker 15 times( give it or take). Once I get it to work, the pump runs fine with no gridding, no adverse noises, no leaks. It runs just like it normally would. It’s a variable speed pump so I have two timers installed. I first thought it was the capacitor. I just changed and the problem persists. I’m trying to eliminate from the cheapest part to the most expensive one( the pump motor). So, should I look in changing the breaker next or one of the timers (or both) ? Pool was built in September of 2016, so, the pump is roughly 7 years old. I opened the electrical pane and there are no signs of moisture, burnt, or disconnected wiring. Thanks for the help !

@@VIPPoolsandSpas Pump is a Hayward SmartMax Star Pump. motor tag says Century SP3210Z2ME. What do you mean by keypad? Inside the pump motor or on the electrical box?

@@rafaelappe If it's a variable speed pump, then there will be a box on top the motor part with the keypad.
