Swimrun Gear Overview | The Equipment You Need to Get Started with Swimrun | Low Tide Boyz

Swimrun gear is a complex subject and everyone has different opinions of what you need and what you don’t. The goal of this guide is to lay out the basics to have for someone to get started with Swimrun. We’ll also give you a few options for each gear category based on the gear we’ve tried to help get you started. For some categories of gear, we have full “Gear Talk” episodes if you really want to dive in deep.
What do you wear to a Swimrun?
When you’re ready to try Swimrun you will need to use some gear to get started. The gear consists of a few main components, each gear category is broken down in greater detail later in the guide.
Swimrun Wetsuit
Swimrun Shoes
Swimrun Pull Buoy (Optional but highly recommended)
Swim Paddles (Optional but recommended depending on your overall swim fitness)
Swim Goggles
Shin/ Lower body floats (Optional)
Tether
Swimrun Undergarments
Socks

Choice of sock is definitely my biggest question. How do you not get serious blistering issues?

Wear your favorite well fitting athletic socks and you won't have any issues with blisters. For some reason blisters are pretty much a non issue with swimrun. We both love the Swiftwick socks.

Hey guys, I'll be taking part in my first Swim Run on the GC, Australia later this year. Will a standard pull buoy do the trick as there aren't really any larger buoys/swim run specific pull buoys available here yet? Cheers.

Great question. If you can’t find a mondo pull buoy you can glue two standard ones together. That is how it used to be done before the big ones existed. Let us know how it goes!

Are you talking dress sock sort of material? It would depend but the best way would be to test it! For your next run soak that pair of socks you have in water and then go for your run. That will be the best way to tell or to use them in your next swimrun practice. Let us know how it goes! lowtideboyz at gmail
