Great video.I’m 70 years young and I just learned free style a few months ago.. The breathing was so hard for me to learn but I didn’t give up. It’s finally feeling more natural and I’m focusing in more on the arm strokes and kicking. Each time I go to the pool I get a little bit better. I love swimming. It’s my special secret sanctuary!

Most important (as a beginner) is relaxing! Lol. I've taken 4 lessons so far. Thanks to your videos, my instructor always tells me my technique is REALLY good. However, my body still won't fully relax. So my arm strokes are good, my breathing and body position is good, and my kicking is good. I still run out of breath way too fast because I'm so tense. So I'm putting way too much energy into everything because I just can't fully relax for some reason. I have no problem going under water or doing anything, so I'm not sure what the problem is. She tells me all the time I need to get out of my head. Your videos helped me so much. I was able to progress a lot faster thanks to you!

Try using a swim snorkel. I find it helps me to relax while practicing. Once I overcome habitual fear and muscle tension, I can incorporate unaided breathing into freestyle. I am a brand new swimmer.

Wow! This is great. What a wonderful lesson. You actually covered everything so carefully and understanding . Very thorough. I am using this video as a theory class and will practice on another day. It is best to absorb this information and internalize it first. This practice will be a lot of fun and at least now I have things to focus on while developing a professional technique. I have just now started swimming three weeks ago and already I am gliding without using a kick board. Everyone says that I have a natural style and confidence for swimming. All I need now is correct technique. I am 74 years old.

I learned to swim 55 years ago. This is a different rhythm. It’s hard to break old habits but doing the drills to separate the different components should help. Thank you for breaking it down in that manner.

“You need to inhale as soon as your arm reaches your leg. You must have taken in-breath, and your head must turn back into normal position before your hand enters the water again,” 1. Inhaling should be quick and deep 2. Return your head before your arm recovers 3. Start a new arm stroke when your head is back I feel like the information the video provides makes me want to practice them, so I can learn on my peace. I really want to practice breathing. I saw that the swimmer does not lift his head, but turns head while his body is on the side. Also, his mouth moves to the side in order to avoid water from getting in. This is difficult when you are beginner, “Turn your head to the side but do not lift it out of the water.” On the other hand, I realized the swimmer gets air, turns head back and do the next arm stroke. I saw people in my class how the turn to the side, do the arm stroke and turns the body to keep going. As a beginner, you do not see the mistakes. But clearly, it is not the best way to do it. On the other hand, “Correct body position decreases water resistance” which comes from correct breathing and paddling. I am trying to learn how to improve my swimming techniques, so this is helping me to see my mistakes. I will try the advice the video gives.
@artharb21193 жыл бұрын
The breathing has been the most difficult for me, once I start running out of air I stick my head out more to get a deeper breath and totally messes up my technique and I begin to sink. Very frustrating
@carldunlap525 ай бұрын
This is very truthful and worded well. All swimmers should know this information. Watch more than once or twice. Before you make these adjustments know your stroke count for one length, your time and your heart rate. Then you can measure your improvement and become inspired to stick with evolving your swimming.

Great video as always, thank you! I've started learning freestyle two months ago. All alone, just you good guys from youtube and me :) Today I made PR, great breaktrough, swam 750m without stopping... :))) Before that I swam 3-4 times, sets of 6x150 or 200m :), And before that 5-6 days I swam 4 pool lengths (100m) last month, struggling with rythm and legs. Not to mention first days, when I couldnt swim 10m...or did 25m lengths with my heart going to explode :) And did most in breastroke...My next goal is to learn flip turn at the end of pool :)

Thank you for this video. It’s the clearest and best example I’ve seen on KZbin. I’ve been swimming for 60 years, always breast stroke, to a very good standard. My chiro has encouraged me to swim freestyle as I recover from a back injury and to minimize the risk of further injury by cutting down right down on breast stroke. I’ve been swimming freestyle for four weeks and doing well, but have learned through your great instruction some simple changes that will help me make significant improvements. I can’t wait to get back in the water next week.

I recently started freestyle swimming with a friend, but he had prior experience and I didn't. After trying to swim with him and watching some of these videos, the first thing I noticed that was the most important was to breath correctly and keep your head down. Dragging less water as you go. I think everything else is secondary to this. Once you get your breathing going, you are good go swim anywhere.

Excellent video clear well explained. Breathing & body position I now realise is the most important. I know the arms I know the kick. However, my body position has always been at fault and I have always breathed too long allowing my hand to enter before I have turned my head fully. I have been swimming for 15 years three times a week sometimes 5 times a week and compete at Masters level. I now know I can go faster by snapping my head back into the water before my hand enters and by holding a better body position particularly by thinking about tensing my stomach muscles. I have been through every major KZbin contributor and you have finally given me the things I’ve been missing. Well done!

Breathing and body position are the foundational aspects of swimming a fast and enjoyable freestyle. For example, if you do not exhale all the air gathered from a previous freestyle pull and just keep inhaling, you will develop a very painful cramp in the stomach because of the bad air you have not released. As for the kick and pull they are comparatively simple. And hey I am still working on all of it!

I’m finding it really difficult to break the habit of a lifetime breathing during the recovery stroke while pulling with the opposite arm. These videos are absolutely fabulous, so detailed, Informative and helpful. I learnt swimming without a coach and hence like u say in ur vids, my techniques aren't good therefore I struggle. I desperately want to change this and want to breathe correctly so that I can do lengths. Like others say here...I find I learn something and do better in the pool everytime I go. The correct technique is soooo important to gain full benefits of swimming. Also being good in the water is in a way a very essential life skill...given these times, this day and age, flash floods, hurricanes n wat not...(just saying) Swimming in a pool is way different than in the ocean or other water bodies. But ya some knowledge is better than no knowledge!!!! (Idk🤷🏾♀️) Thankful for this page. Will download the app. Hoping it works on Android.
