Oh, man. I totally forgot this movie until I saw the thumbnail and the memories clicked in my brain. The only memory that stands out is how hard Nick promoted this film and the only reason I saw it was the fact that Sam and Gibby were in it. And speaking of How to Rock, the only memorable thing about that show for me was the theme song.

I started Middle School in the second half of 2013 and always considered the year to be a transitional year. Half of it relates heavily to 2009-2012 culture like the popularity of club music but the other half heavily relates to 2014-2016 culture like vine. The Nick transition fits with this really well.

@@AJ-xc4qe i don’t think she hates or hated acting then. she probably wanted to put it on pause and focus on starting up her music career but she couldn’t because she was signed to act artistically with Nickelodeon. scream queens and wicked are no where near nickelodeon and she was only in like 3 scenes in scream queens but with Wicked she’s obviously not focused on music and went back to acting. It’s just different phases of her career she went through. Not establish as an artist, music; Established as an artist, acting. Easy as that. Though i wouldn’t blame her at all if she hated acting on Sam&Cat cause the show was fun at first but was always shit

The good times of Nickelodeon ended with this movie, and it really shows. So many shows just had to end in 2012 (How to Rock, iCarly, and Victorious, as given here) or leave the channel's schedule (Jimmy Neutron, All Grown Up, Back at the Barnyard, Kenan & Kel, Ned's Declassified, True Jackson VP) and it makes me sad that this resulted in the channel being viewed by an even younger audience.

It wasn’t the end of Nickelodeon’s “good times”. Just the last hurrah for what I call the iGeneration (named because iCarly was the flagship show of that era). That’s kind of like saying the Drake & Josh generation (I can’t think of a catchy name for that) ended when Zoey 101 went off the air. IMO the channel didn’t suddenly get bad, we just got older.

I remember loving this book when it came out and being PISSED when the movie strayed too far from the plot lol. Originally they find a Babe Ruth card in and old abandoned house and sell it to a guy named S. Wendell Palomino. The heist team is a little different, but the big change was they stole it back from his house, not a hotel. The original characters had so much more heart and really made me care about them!

I read the book series as a kid, I had no idea there was a movie and have never watched it. It seems like a fun movie. It's pretty different from the books though. Like for example Savannah in the books is an animal whisperer and the actor in their group was a character called Logan, looks like he was completely cut from the movie though. Also Melissa in the books is not related to Griffon, she is also extremely shy and a shut-in. Ben's character is also very different. Ben is a voice of reason not a comic relief, he also had narcolepsy and was very short (which let him sneak into small places like vents). Amanda seems to be filling in for role of "Pitch", I can't remember what her actual name was but everybody called her Pitch. She was a jock and was super into rock-climbing. I don't remember her being particularly nerdy but even if she was I don't think she would be ashamed of it. Darren... if I remember correctly, Griffin did try to recruit him as the muscle at some point but he betrayed the group, I think. He's generally kind of a bully and is an antagonist in the books. So it's weird seeing him as a good guy. Pitch generally did the muscle stuff. It's odd that Griffin was never once called "The Man with the Plan" because instead of calling him the "The Brains" he was always called that in the books. Also I don't remember him being popular at all in the books. In the books it's actually Griffin's dad that is the inventor, not Ben's. Every book had some new invention that always ended up being used in the heist in some way. Out of the movie characters, I'd say Griffin is the closest to the books. The plot itself is also pretty different. In the books, they broke into Swindle's house. And they needed the animal whisperer to deal with his big scary guard dog. Also they didn't get away as cleanly in the books as they did in the movie. They got into trouble with the police, but were able to walk away. I don't think they got the money from the card though. Another thing that is interesting in this adaptation is the ending with the girl needing help to get her rare bird back. In the books Savannah has a bunch of exotic animals and one of them gets stolen and sold to a shitty boat zoo, that mostly houses small mammals. Without having Savannah be an animal whisperer I guess they needed to make up a new character to fit that role to kick start the Zoo Break plot. tldr: The books and movie are very different. Most of the characters have different personalities than the books. Also the plot is pretty different as well.

So I doubt anybody will believe me about this but my family actually is related to Honus Wagner, the guy on the baseball card. Knowing this as a kid made me really excited to see it when it came out! Admittedly i remembered almost nothing about it besides that. Also unless this has changed that specific card is the most expensive baseball card ever (no, I dont own one). Also as a bonus fact one of his nicknames was "The Flying Dutchman" and since he played most of his career for the Pittsburgh Pirates its very likely the SpongeBob character was named after him!

I have never seen this movie before, but as soon as I started watching this review it immediately stuck me that this was a Nick version of the TV series Leverage. They have the same “actress is the grifter”, “gymnast is the thief” kind of breakdown, even the freeze frame titles part is the same. And the pilot of the shows ends with them deciding that they should use the money from the first heist to go do crimes for good. I know you said this was based on a book, but it’s WILD that this 2013 movie follows the same beats as a 2008-2012 tv series.

Something tells me they wanted two cast members from each show (not including sam and cat) to appear in this. They’re only missing another cast member from victorious and btr. I actually got that book when it came out at my school’s Scholastic Book Fair in elementary school. I’m 26 now but from what I remember the premise is the same but other than that it’s different. Like even the kids in the book are younger than in the movie and they were already friends. Never watched the movie tho, watched this just to see if it jogged my memory. I was pretty done with Nick at this point but my little brother was 5 years younger so I would occasionally catch stuff because of him.

Personally, i always think that this is the best movie of nickelodeon because they try to do it a little bit "serious", i like the story and the actors actually were good, but literaly to nick and some people, this movie didn't exist.

I remember this day vividly. I just got home from the movies feeling sick & regret from seeing “Kick-A$$ 2” I was feeling horrible so I turned to Nickelodeon & “Swindle” was just about to turn on I was so happy.

I don't know if the rules are different for movies, but I know that if you're writing a book then you can have your characters name-drop and consume a real-life piece of media, for example watch the movie _Swindle_ , without needing permission from the owners or risking any legal problems. Maybe Eddie has all that _Star Wars_ and _Star Trek_ merch because one of the writers really likes those franchises, or maybe they just already had the props (or actual merch) and wanted to write it into the script so the copytight holders couldn't get them in trouble for implying they made it up for the movie like the rest of the figures.

For future reference, the imdb page for the movie should have even obscure characters listed if you dig deep enough so you can find that actress you were talking about.

I was more of a Nick kid than a Disney kid back in the day, but I don't think I ever actually saw this movie before, only ever heard of it. Which is wild, especially cause I was a big How To Rock fan when it was airing.

When I saw the notification I instantly took a moment. I wouldn't consider this an underrated gem. It is pretty much like the levels of a DCOM while Rags is more underrated even though it has a huge following.

Funnily, I read the book of this before it became a movie. The movie has it's own merits but I kind of prefer the book.

So i read the book back in 2008 when i was in 3rd grade (and the others in the series the SWINDLE series is honestly wild--) so 13 year old me was kind of shocked Nickelodeon gave it a movie adaptation. I'd have to reread the book again but of course they took creative liberties and left stuff out (there was definitely more heart between Ben and Griffin in the book, not to mention Ben also had narcolepsy so that was another stake they had to deal with). I just kind of randomly caught the movie one night while i was over my dad's house, and I basically held the same opinion as you, an underrated gem of a Nickelodeon movie, but also like a solid 3/5 lol. Also a big thing they changed in this movie that was very notable in the book is the abscene of the big guard dog Swindell had (hence the dog on the book cover :^) ), although i totally understand why they chose not to factor it in 😂 EDIT: Forgot to add that i cant WAIT for that How to Rock video it was one of my favorites in 2012 😭 Little known fact is that How to Rock is ALSO loosely based on a book by the same name as the pilot episode which i ALSO read and tbh barring a few differences Nickelodeon was pretty damn faithful to the book's plot in that pilot episode from what i remember lol, the biggest difference was the age of the character as in the book, I'm pretty sure they were middle schoolers and in like 7th grade, but dare I say it translated pretty well still bumping them up to being high schoolers in the TV show lmao.

I remember barely anything about this movie other than the fact that Noah Munck was in it but I legitimately can't hear the word swindle without thinking of "that one Nickelodeon movie" and I think it's because this is where I learned what the word meant so my brain just will always connect the two things. Oh, nostalgia. Weird but fun times.
