That sounded like an amazing atmosphere. For a fourth division game, it sure seemed like there was a lot of fans there. I guess the American model doesn’t apply much to Europe lol. Usually the lower the league here, the smaller the stadium, and the emptier it is. I’m absolutely astounded about how the police are required to break up fans. Here, road fans and Home fan sit scattered throughout the entire stadiums, usually right next to each other, and have very few issues. both statements I made, about attendance and Road fans, apply not just to soccer, but to American football, baseball, hockey, basketball, and just not every other sport that we have here at the professional level and even the collegiate level. I remember I went to a baseball game a couple years back, I live in New York, but I’m in Atlanta Braves fan. I went to Atlanta versus New York in New York, and it was a great game. There is no visitor side of the stadium, so you just buy tickets whatever you can get a seat, and I was the only Braves fan in the section. But you can see Braves fans scattered throughout the entire baseball field, and everybody got along just fine. Even though it’s a division rivalry.

That’s some really good insight! Unfortunately in England we have a very different culture when it comes to mixing fans in football. However in sports like rugby they manage. I think it’s the unique culture that we have. I would love to watch more sport in USA.

@@AVFTS1 it must be. It would just be so odd to see American stadiums half empty. I think part of the reason why we don’t have to worry about the rivalries and the mixing of fan so much, is it simply to drive to the next nearest professional stadium, it can be a six or 7 Hour Drive. It takes over 12 hours just to drive through one state at times, depending on the state. So part of it is probably that there’s simply are not very many road fans to enter into the stadium to begin with. It is considered a failure though if there are any empty seats in the stadium, so it would make sense why they wouldn’t designate certain parts of the stadium for certain fans. It wouldn’t guarantee a full capacity crowd. That being said, for some rivalries, especially at the college American football level, not soccer, but American football, certain games like Ohio State versus Michigan, Alabama versus Auburn, LSU versus Texas A&M, and a few others they do have to designate certain parts of the stadium for road fence because it can get pretty ugly, but those instances across all levels of our sport in all variations of our sports, from basketball to soccer to football to everything in between, are few and far between. The only issue I can remember from the entirety of the last MLS season, talking specifically about soccer, in the unite states, was with the Charlotte FC versus Atlanta United games. There were a few fist fights.

I went to a few Swindon games in 1972-3 as a 14 year old. I remember Birmingham, Oxford, Millwall and I think Forest fans pretty much took over the Town End. Fulham were the only away fans who didn't, they shared the end with the Swindon fans with no trouble.

That’s insane. The police escort and separate ends of the stadium for the fans still baffles me. I can’t seem to rap my head around it. In my american mind, it seems like a wasted opportunity to separate the two ends of the stadium for home and away fans, cause it limits the chance for a full capacity crowd lol. I also don’t understand the escort. I’ve gone to many baseball, hockey, basketball, american football, and soccer matches here in the USA, both home and away, and I’ve never personally seen any violence or things needing a police escort or separation, even in the fiercest of rivalries. I’ve actually sat among home and road fans at many different venues across the sports spectrum, and it’s not uncommon for people, supporters of the opposite team, to buy the other teams closest fan to them a beer, order of fries, etc if their team scores. Many times fans of opposite teams, who’ve never met each other before, will walk out the stadium together talking about the players on each other’s side. It’s such a difference. You’d think that level of kindness would be universal, but there must be something I’m missing? Either way, another excellent vid.

Genuinely you will need to come to England to see the animosity between away fans and home fans. There is this die hard culture and rivalry that being seen to mix with your fiercest rivals is unheard of on game day. You of course get fans who happily chat to other opposition fans but the big games and rivalries you won’t!

@@AVFTS1 I mean for some of the fierce rivalries, I’m thinking college football and Michigan vs Ohio state, fans really get at it on game day, but I think there’s just a mutual understanding that you just don’t show up to the stadium supporting the road team in that specific instance. Otherwise, fans remain mostly civil with each other, even during the game, in pretty much any other rivalry.
