Swing-down silverware drawer

This is my latest contraption. I built it using Aspen boards, and lined it with contact paper. I'll eventually stain the outside, but since I didn't have any handy, it got installed bare.
The mechanism is extremely simple; two 8" bars for the front, and two 4" bars for the back. I added some springs to make it glide to a stop more gently when opening it. I tried to find some push-button latches, but had to settle for a flip catch.
From the remnants and a piece of dowel, I also built the two spice racks you can see below it. Total cost of assembly was about $15. I can create a how-to if anyone is interested; just ask.

I've been trying to make on of these that stays closed without a manual latch. I added a drawer slide but the closing mechanism eludes me. Have you had any further thoughts?

I haven't really considered making one without a latch, but it's an interesting thought. If I build one like that, I'll post a video.

@@ArtByStrongWolf I found some cabinet magnets that hold up 16kg, I think they'll do the trick!
