2 days ago, I couldn’t get off the tee. Old habits creeping back into my swing. Swaying forward. I did this drill for a while and played today. I did this drill on the tee box before each shot. Wow! I’m back!! Hit a bunch of fairways and got confidence back. THANKS!!

Paul, out of all of your "Stop-hitting-over-the-top" messaging this has been the best video for me. I have been a devotee of the body swing for two years with maddening inconsistency. Every bad shot I hit is a result of an over the top swing- mostly pulls and pull hooks. Focusing on the correct tilt and the ball flies straight every time. This was the right message at the right time for me. God bless, Brother.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You saying that is telling me you are not doing my follow through positions right. Do a different swing ... you get a different result. Over the top is hitting with arms. Need to turn them off completely in the downswing. So keep doing this to get the backward tilt. This is a quick way to get rid of the over the top swing but you really need to work on the follow through. It's like a gymnast sticking their landing. You need to hit the follow through precisely ... every time. Do it daily in a mirror. Get this and it will be like magic.

How do you tilt back on the downswing but still get your weight shifted to the front foot?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You get it when you fire the hips quick. It's like hitting the accelerator on a car. Give it gas and your body goes back into the seat. Most average players are not good at it so I have them manually tilt. This will cause pushes then you add the turn to hit it straight and get the hips moving. Glad you are still getting better. Great to hear. Don't worry about loading a lot on the right. Just think about coiling. What I don't want is you leading left going back. So be 50/50 and just coil. This the rotation I need in the backswing. Once coiled uncoil and let the arms go along for the ride. You've got this. Just glad your even able to swing. Be careful out there though and don't swing too hard. Work on the moves and increase it once you are fully recovered.

Very good. Were you doing practice swings though? With my stuff you do not have to hit ball. In fact, the ball is the problem. If you can't get to the course do 25 practice swings 3 times a week to keep remembering this stuff. You did well but I don't want people losing it on me. This is what happened to me in Canadian winters. I would take me until July to get it back.

Hi Paul. You’re looking great today. You’re suddenly looking younger. You’re looking more uplifted. That’s also a nice view behind you. That’s a great thought. Not thinking hit. It’s very liberating. Tilting back. That makes so much sense. And in a way it’s kind of natural. I watch all your videos religiously. And I’m believing that I’m absorbing all this stuff. Light bulbs are going off. I’m concentrating of getting the overall picture, instead of trying to get it bit by bit. I might turn out to be your worst student you’ve ever had but I don’t care about that. I’m just interested is absorbing the whole package. The overall picture. Maybe this doesn’t work for every one but it works for me. Eventually I’ll get into the fine tuning. But first things first. I see the wisdom of you always wearing the same clothes. This is helpful. It’s helps us get it more. We can more easily get what you are imparting. It helps us to concentrate on the lesson. Because you always look the same. Why don’t more instructors do this? They should know this. But they don’t. It’s because they aren’t clever enough to know better. What does this tell us. It means they aren’t thinking things through as well as they should. Therefore their lessons are not quite as good as they could be. Which means, with all due respect to them, they are not as good a coach as you are.

You would get the side bend with rotation. I wouldn't be thinking about that doing this drill. Get the tilt backwards in the downswing so you swing out at it. Then if you don't have the tilt or you are pushing it then add more rotation. Get one thing then more to the next. Work on too much and you get nothing.

Great video and tip! I have to say you have amazing reading information and video instruction on your “The Body Swing” and “The Swing Machine” products. Sorry to ask a question but as I work on the Body Swing will the ball begin to disappear as I just make your body swing motion? I am always having to fight my natural tendency to try and hit the ball rather than focusing on making a golf swing. This causes arm/wrist tension and coming over the top. Thanks for your help.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it. Thanks. In both of my products I teach you a very precise ending point. You need to think of point B more than hitting the ball. If so you will swing right through it like it's not even there. Human nature is telling you to hit the stationary object (ball). To stop thinking about it you need another thought. I have given you that thought with the follow through positions. So for a while stop hitting golf balls and do the practice swings at home until you are doing them exactly as I show. I cannot do them better than you. Get those alone and you will hit it better than you ever have in your life. After a week or two of not hitting anything and doing my positions start adding the ball. It's not ball after ball though. Do 3 times as many practice swings as balls working on the positions. It's all about building the swing. Get the swing ... you get the ball.

Yes, you still tilt with irons. The longer the club and faster you swing the more tilt there is. If you remain stuck on the back foot as you hit the ball you will most certainly hit it fat but no one is telling anyone to do that. Firing the lower is like hitting an accelerator on a car. Fire the lower and the upper body hangs back. Like I said, the faster you fire the more you hang back. Fixing fat shots is easy. If someone hits it fat then then need to watch this tip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6jcn6p8d9GXrJY I talk about the tilt in this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOoXpuwib2ahNE I will be doing more in the future.

@paulwilsongolf

You are still shifting to the tip of the back toe. It's like hitting the accelerator on a car. Fire quickly and your upper goes back. This is not hanging back. Do the drill but get to the ending. You need this tilt. You are not good at firing so how do you ever plan on getting it? Tilt manually. Get it. Then it will happen without thinking about it.

You would be tilted with all clubs because your right hand is lower on the club than the left. Some people tilt more than others. Too much tilt can cause problems too. You can swing too much from the inside, hang back, drop kick driver etc. You need to find how much tilt works for you. I say 8-10 degrees tilt would be in the ball park.

When you go to hit a driver, are you consciously tilting back as you make your forward swing or do you start tilted at address? (Just had a thought...whoever came up with the term "downswing" did everybody who plays golf a disservice...downswing implies hitting down which gets people swinging steep and off the correct plane.)
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You are slightly tilted at address. I say about 10 degrees. You hit the top. You fire the lower body This is like hitting the accelerator on a car. It causes your upper body to fall backwards. Every pro does this. Every pro started as a kid which got us using the legs and hips right out of the gate. Those who learned as adults have arm strength. From ball 1 they hit with arms not using the body at all. Hitting with arms leans you forward instead of back which sends it over the top. So to get the tilt I am saying to manually tilt. I know you are not good at firing the hips but you need the tilt. So how do you get it quickly? You manually tilt coming down and get used to it. As you do you will most likely hit pushes for a bit. Once you are tilted then then tilt and turn then it goes down the line. Need the tilt. That is priority one. Get this then you are copying every pro. At this point you can fine tune it so the ball is going down the line. Tilting forward sending it over the top will never work.

Hello coach Paul, I live in Italy, I would like to live in Las Vegas and have lessons with you, I follow you a lot and I find your way of making many swing concepts simple, but I am confused about two videos in which you seem to be saying two completely opposite things. In this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXzOe6CqeMZpetk&ab_channel=PaulWilsonGolf you say not to tilt to preserve the spine and back muscles for a long time, in this other video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOoXpuwib2ahNE&ab_channel=PaulWilsonGolf you say that it is essential to tilt to hit well. What do I really have to do? thanks if you want to answer.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
I am not saying 2 opposite things at all. The first tip I am saying to rotate circular not up and down being too steep. When you set up to the ball you are tilted. If you turned you would still be tilted. Problem is a lot of people try to tilt when they go back which is unnecessary because you are already tilted when you set up. I say all this at 4 mins in. Start vertical do some swings. Then lower. You are still doing the same swing it's just you are tilted as you do it. Again, people set up. They keep their head too still and the shoulders work as a see saw getting them more steep that they were at set up. The second tip I am talking about the backwards tilt as you come down. This happens in every better players swing when the hit the ball. We use our legs and hips. I say it's like hitting the accelerator on a car. Fire the lower quick and your upper falls back. So FRONT VIEW you start on a slight tilt. You fire the lower to start down. This tilt increases coming down. From DTL this forward tilt is still there. I am not standing up or tilting forward more. These are 2 separate tips on 2 completely different things that happen in the swing. Problem most average golfers have is when they hit the top they use their arms to hit the ball instead of the legs. This does not allow them to tilt back. Instead they tilt forward and send it over the top. So you are set up to the ball. I like a set up not bent over too much. You coil on the same angle you started on. You hit the top. You fire the lower. From the front your spine tilts bac. This creates the path from the inside. In no way are you standing up as you do this. Hopefully, this clarifies it.
