I was thinking about this cut while at work and decided to revisit it. I must be showing my age (I'm 51 years old) as this song IS STILL AWESOME when it first came out in 1986! The "rare" live version is actually better than the studio version as it has a jazzy tinge to the synthpop backdrop. It's just pop perfection!😀

GBS1043's right - this is THE definitive live version of "Breakout." The full orchestra and Mark King on bass really takes it to another performance level! BTW, given how hot the song is rocking (and how it was still a recent hit back in 1989), it is surprising that the audience wasn't more into it - but maybe at a Prince's Trust concert, it's a little more sedate crowd. However, glad to see at least one member of the audience really getting into the music - 0:27-0:30,bottom of screen.

Level 42 band members (at that time) and Mark King himself on bass (and as musical director) getting the duty as the event's 'house band' and an excellent job they did. Mark's rhythmic - and 100% on the '1' timing - bass line (played on one of his Alembic's) drives this song along superbly as does Gary Husband's drumming. As many have commented, Corinne such a classy lady, gave a flawless performance and done with grace.

Breakout Breakout When explanations make no sense, When every answer's wrong, You're fighting with lost confidence, All expectations gone. The time has come to make or break; Move on, don't hesitate. Breakout, don't stop to ask; Now you've found a break to make it last. You've got to find a way, Say what you want to say; breakout. When situations never change, Tomorrow looks unsure, Don't leave your destiny to chance. What are you waiting for? The time has come to make or break. Breakout, don't stop to ask; Now you've found a break to make it last. You've got to find a way, Say what you want to say; breakout. Breakout, don't stop to ask; Now you've found a break to make it last. You've got to find a way, Say what you want to say; breakout. Some people stop at nothing. If you're searching for something, Lay down the law, shout out for more. Breakout and shout day in and day out; Breakout, don't stop to ask' Now you've found a break to make it last. You've got to find a way, Say what you want to say; breakout. Don't stop to ask; Now you've found a break to make it last. You've got to find a way, Say what you want to say; breakout. Don't stop to ask; Now you've found a break to make it last. You've got to find a way, Say what you want to say; breakout.
